@Choff C Well Choff, even with all the exclamation marks you still are a douchebag. One thing that gets very clear to me after watching videos like this: In war, it´s not about "BADD ASS" and "pussies". It´s about you and your comrades trying to just stay alive and make it back home, maybe, one day.
@angrytom1923

@Choff C Notice how no one likes your comments? Maybe it's because your political horseshit is not welcome here. In WWII, American patriots who fought and suffered and sacrificed for this country were of all different political affiliations, all different races and ethnicities, all different religious creeds. They were united by the cause of defending freedom and the American way of life. Maybe instead of being a jackass and spreading divisive rhetoric, you could actually LEARN something from these veterans and the way they regarded TRUE patriotism. Waving the flag doesn't begin to cut it.

I know what you're saying but comparing a civilian on an airliner in peacetime, to a man who was tasked with helping to firebomb civilians in wartime, is not a fair comparison. Endless respect for this man, standing up and volunteering to fight for his country; but let's not get too carried away with the Jingoism.

I went to the MidAtlantic Air Museum in Pennsylvania a few years back for their WW2 airshow. It was AWESOME!!! I really liked it because it wasn't just airplanes. To be honest I'm not as much into planes as I am small arms and machine guns n such. So it was a pleasant surprise that they had a plethora of small arms from all sides of the war. They had a flamethrower that you could pay to shoot. As well as a Browning M1919 machine gun that you could shoot. You could climb inside the "belly" of a B-17. They also had flyovers from P-51 Mustangs. Honestly the best World War Two show I've ever been too and I'll never forget it. Sadly all of the pictures/videos that I took that day are lost because of a group of punks that broke into my house and stole my Camera and video camera. They even stole the laptop I had the stuff downloaded on. But I'll always have the memories.

My grandmothers first husband was a radio operator on a B-17 ("I'll get by). On their way back home to England through France, an 88 made a direct hit on the radio compartment where he was sitting and he was killed instantly. I think there were 3 survivors who managed to escape the plane. They have a monument in France near Normandy that was erected for the crew, and one of their Bomb jackets is in the Dayton Air Force Museum. They had a lot of courage. 8th Air force, 95th Bomb group, 412th Squadron.

@Memoirs of WWII, Wow. My late father was U.S. Army and spent 39 months in the Pacific during WWII. He never talked about it much because he just wasn't that kind of person, but I admired him greatly for not only surviving the horrors of that conflict but also living the rest of his life as a gentle, caring person. I was an Army Brat born in 1949 on an Army post here in the States, so I was interested in history from an early age. My father retired in '63, then earned a Masters in History and went on to become an extremely popular public school History teacher. The kids loved him just as I always will. You give an excellent presentation that is obviously heartfelt and I look forward to watching more of your videos, with much appreciation of your obvious talent. My father flew in B29’s and was stationed on Tinian. He was also an avid photographer. When he passed away we discovered a box of b/w photos which he took while on those long missions to Japan. I don’t know how he got clearance to get these photos processed and declassified. My guess is that he didn’t and that’s why he never spoke of them. At any rate they are phenomenal photos of japanese fighters and burning bombers in huge formations of b29s. What an experience for a 21 year old. His plane was also crippled and made an emergency landing on Iwo Jima.

Brian Wheeler Yes he also took photos of Mt Fuji. During the armistice ceremony on the battleship Missouri General McArthur had squadrons of B-29s flying overhead as a demonstration of force. Dad moved back to one of the waist blisters and took a photograph just as the Japanese surrender party was arriving shipside. I have never seen another like it. It was from altitude and is a little fuzzy but there is no mistaking of what he captured in that moment. Chilling.

My neighbor when I was a kid was a B-29 Co-pilot for the “Tanaka Termite”, he passed away a few years ago. I wish he had a chance to tell his stories here as well. I was lucky enough to receive his army trunk, after he passed away, that he used when he was over in Saipan. Keep up the good work!

Great video Josh! Thanks for posting. I salute that fella. Not many from WWII left. I sometimes worry that, as history has shown so many times before, once there is nobody left to tell the stories of WWII, we have a terrible habit of repeating ourselves. Those men and women of that era, gave us what we have today, and it would be a bloody shame to continue to go down this crazy road we find ourselves on these days, only to have to do it all over again! To many times we've come so gravely close. I pray we never do repeat these awful years again!! That is why I salute them. But, as always, that's just my opinion! :)))

Me too, my dad was a tanker in WW II and awarded the Purple Heart. I used to love listening to all the stories my dad and uncles told at family get togethers. I knew from as far back as I could remember I was going in the air force. Retired now I served 20 yrs and fought in two wars. My dad passed in 2004 and I miss him very much. He was the bravest man I've ever known. May God Bless them all.

I feel you man. Where would you and others who feel the same way sign up? I'd go Airforce, if I was American, then a bomber pilot. From 1942 onwards a B-17 or B-24 pilot as I love those rugged beasts.

I was in Fredericksburg TX at the Admirable Nimitz museum with my dad a few years ago. He was on board a cargo ship, the USS Sheliak (AKA-62), in the pacific. His ship had had a reunion a few years before that at the museum, but we did not know about it, but there was a plaque commemorating his ship. At the end of our visit, there were a few people who were promoting their attempt to get vets to share their experiences. Sadly, he did not want to do it. I was sad he would not participate, but we just don't know how the war effected each vet in their own way. Dad is still around, but quite old. These stories are an asset for any following generation. Thanks for this.

It wasn't enough that he had to fight in the war to end all wars but to be asked again to fight in the Korean War. The one thing I can say about the world is we sure know how to start wars. It's too bad we can't sit down and talk peace and forget about the killing. Remember if you see a vet thank him or her for their service.

I had the privilege of talking to a friend of my father's before he passed a few months ago. He was 99 years and had been a Tank commander in Italy and through to the end in Germany. His stories were amazing and he had an admiration for German engineering. He and others wore canvas gym shoes that made almost no noise so that when camped up at night they could move about undetected. I wish I had recorded his stories but alas I didn't. These testimonies are priceless thankyou.

Air-headed Aviator thanks for commenting; We definitely want to cover stories from all perspectives of the war, but as this project is currently self- and crowd-funded, we have so far only been able to capture stories from our general area. The emotions and the quivering in his voice when he recounted the 350 holes in the plane and how close he was to not making it... what a hero. It's not the absence of fear but the fact that he persevered in the face of fear that makes him a hero. Terrible things we asked of these young men and they delivered without question.
