Thank you for reacting to Bon iver! I i have so much nostalgia of listening to the albums for emma and forever ago from 2007 and bon iver from 2011 on my little ipod mini during many train rides to and from university. I also went to lyon france to see him play at an old outdoor amphitheatre and it was one of the best shows ever.
This song always reminds me of 5 am when the suns coming up and your just staring at the sky and the world has yet to fully wake up. And you’re just staring... in deep thought.
There is a live version of this song that I think was played in the morning on a cloudy day. Justin is saying ‘Where’s that sun? It’s risen’. Would have been great to be there.
If you like bon iver you'll like Ben Howard, who is the best artist alive in my opinion, listen to some of his music? Time is Dancing is a good one, or even his older music liek Old Pine, Keep your head up and only love
It's soothing but these songs are so hopefully depressing. They break your heart but lead you to believe you might be okay. The black crow is your sadness personified, crossed legs, comfortable in your depression. The keys he is dangling are the keys to your happiness. Taunting you with them. The feeling that doing nothing is the answer to your lonely sadness.
Over Soon from the 22 a million album next please! 22 a million has a more electronic vibe compared to For Emma Forever Ago. I think you’d like it a lot!
I think the only way to feel the full weight of this song is to listen to the album as a whole. Re:Stacks is the hope and healing after a heartbreak of the worst kind. To feel the tonal shift from the rest of the album is what makes this album so damn perfect
"There's a black crow sitting across from me, his wirey legs are crossed. He's dangling my keys, he even fakes a toss"...has to be the most beautiful metaphor for depression possible.
Hi:) I loved this review. You were honest and genuine and actually made me giggle. Bon iver makes beautiful music and I’m happy you were able to recognize the calm and soothing tone he produces. I would also like to add that when you gave your end thoughts, the music was a little too loud and I did struggle to hear you a little. Over all, good set up, clear mic, clean quality, charismatic personality and a very good review. Subscribed, definitely want to see more from you
Re: stacks acts not only as the end of an album but also as the end of an era. When he says "your love will be safe with me" it's his way of saying "I'm moving on, moving forward. I won't go back and be the person that behaves in a way that ruins what was had." The sounds at the end are Justin putting down his guitar and reconnecting to the world.
i know im late but bon ivers music and especially this album has been so important to me nothing feels like it. and the way he says "a crispy realization" always gets me
That 30 second of silence is the closure that justin vernon finally connect to the outside world after finishing the album (listen to the sound of pickin up the phone). Thats why re: stack became the last track of for emma, forever ago
