Bon Jovi sucks so much Mark and Tyler can't even get worked up over it. Listen as your favorite podcast hosts casually dismantle this band's career until, eventually, with no worthy adversary to team up against, Mark and Tyler turn on each other...
As we've seen before, Bon Jovi isn't even a band. It's John Bongiovi's personal ego trip, kid-tested and mother-approved. Sometimes a pocketful of clichés is all it takes to reach the cough*laughing-stock*cough Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, kids!
There isn't going to be an episode of the podcast next week because Tyler and Mark are mad at each other over this one.

I never heard it called hair metal until the last ten years and glam metal I've never heard before this podcast. Glam rock was the genre and hair bands were the bands. Bon Jovi was the glam rock band supported for whatever reason by girls though.

It's funny you say listening to Livin' on a Prayer makes you think the bass player is the best musician in the band. The bass player they used for recordings was a session musician who wasn't in the band. He did eventually become a member about 15 years later.

Regarding bands that have the singer's name in the name: sometimes this is beyond their control and is insisted by the label. For example, Tom Petty needed to name his band Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers because the label only wanted him for his songwriting. As part of the condition to accepting this contract, Tom had to sack his bandmates. He then sacked his bandmates but then hired them as his musicians followed by putting his name in the band so he could adhere to the contract as being "Tom Petty" rather than breaching the contract by calling themselves The Heartbreakers.

It’s disrespectful to the rest of the band. The singer with the name gets all the credit most of the time and it’s not fair to the others AND it’s confusing. When someone says “Bon Jovy is great” are they talking about the band or John Von Jovi ? Exactly

The only “artistic” album Poison ever made was Native Tongue and that was because Richie Kotzen wrote that album and brought legitimate musicianship to that band for the first time ever. Then Richie hooked up with Rikki Rocket’s ex-fiancée and the rest is history… 🤣

@Mr. ENGlishJELLoI've heard of term Hair Metal only after Grunge broke out and specially youtube. It was never called hair metal during 80's, perhaps in USA and UK. I remember first Sweet Metal, then Glam Metal and it was term for totally travestite looking guys like Poison. Warrant, Slaughter or Tyketto weren't called Glam and I don't remember how their music was called but they were on the covers of all specialized Heavy Metal and Rock magazines. Sorry 😊

They deserve to be in the Hall Of Fame but got in the right way through a fan vote, same way Journey, Kiss and Leppard got in. Bon Jovi sold to many records not to get in. Selling records counts for something. Slippery, Jersey and Keep The Faith are good records. Also Have A Nice Day was a decent album. Bon Jovi was always a top 40 pop rock band. Bryan Adams with higher hair if you will. They are not metal, not grunge nor did they ever offer up deep meaningful lyrics. They were a pop rock party type band, big sing along hooks (crafted by Desmond Child). They fall into the same category as Journey, Def Leppard, Whitesnake, Guns N Roses, Poison.

I live in Aouth Florida and had to get Satillite Radio because the 3 Rock stations down here okay GNR, Bon Jovi, Whitesnake, Tom Perry and Lynyrd Skynard Constantly and the same 1-3 sounds from each band on a rotation. Living on a prayer and bad medicine.

Like with any band, the lead singer makes or breaks the band. Richie Sambora and the other guys in the band are great musicians, but they’re plagued by a bubblegum cheesedick lead singer. I’ve always found Jon Bon Jovi to be a tool, who whores himself out to the media too much.

I have always said if he did not have their hair and that look and his cousin owned the power station in NYC this band would be rejects from the Jersey Shore. Seriously remember that band that Adrianna was friends with on the Sopranos and she wanted to help them get a record contract and the Jewish record company guy that Tony was old friends was asked to help them out. Motley Crue is the most metal hair metal band. Twisted Sister was a good choice. GnR for one album. Ozzy solo. Ratt. Hair metal up to about 1984 is actual metal. Most of that crap that came around after that is not, such as Bon Jovi, Warrant, Winger, Tesla are definitely not.

Tesla and Warrant are actually good though. Winger sucks entirely and Bon Jovi has some good songs but that isn't enough to make up for their atrocious songs such as Runaway and Bad Medicine (good God, that song is awful). I have to sit through those 2 songs at work and it's absolute torture.

In a time with shredders Ritchie Sampora was a plucker. The talk box is great was never spoken by Eddie Van Halen. Van Halen would play and make sounds never heard on the guitar while Sampora wanted to sound like he was doing that.

Bon Jovi , ZZ Top , Born in the USA and Bryan Adams stole U2’s British dominance during a generations’ discovery of Guitar Music in the mid 1980s Mainstream or Pop Rock hadn’t existed in U.K. pop charts since the 70s ( apart from Queen obviously cos they’re a Cult ) until these four North American Acts along with U2 broke the Synth / Post Punk hold over things . Ok there was the heavy metal revival of 1980 but mainstream listeners didn’t touch much of those bands’ stuff. They are still played on every crummy generic fm station every day ) 👍

I was born and raised in NJ and the podcast is spot on with their assessment of Bon Jovi. Two guys from Tennessee are not in the position to talk sh*t about NJ. Your state is a joke and every time you have a natural disaster, you contact FEMA. Which states contribute the most money to FEMA? It isn't Tennesse but NJ, NY, and CA. I am going to take a guess that that wasn't taught in the school systems in Tennessee because they were too busy teaching creationism. Why are there so many unsolved murders in Tennessee? There are no dental records and everyone has the same DNA.

Bon Jovi sucks but Richie Sambora is actually excellent. Not making KISS doesn’t mean he was outplayed in auditions…Les Claypool auditioned for Metallica and didn’t get the gig, that doesn’t mean Les isn’t an amazing bassist and better than the guy that got the job. 🤣

Yes, Sambora is an excellent guitar player AND a much, much, MUCH stronger singer than Jon Bon Jovi could ever dream of being. With that said, Bon Jovi has cranked out of handful of good carpool karaoke songs…I haven’t heard any actual artistry from that band in spite of Sambora’s talents.
