Another thing I think the writers, producers etc didn't take into account is that in most families when the kids grow up they do usually get married and move out of the house. That's why most watchers of Bonanza came along with the Cartwright curse. The wives to be were always killed or something else would happen. While it was great having the Cartwright some being with their Pa life doesn't stay like that. Bonanza was a big hit.
I just wanted to say even though this was in the script for this episode. I have so many men on this old western gripe and moan about their wives giving birth to a little girl. It actually makes me sick. As though it's a crime or a big let down. Daughters are just as important as the boys are. If not more. And I'm not talking about housecleaning cooking sewing etc. Any child is precious whether it's a boy or girl. If it weren't for the ladies and sex none of us would even be here. I know a lot of father's go on about carrying on the family name. Stop to think numbskulls. It still includes the woman giving birth to the child. God didn't allow us beings to be able to make that choice. Is probably why he didn't. Regardless of what crap they're putting out their today. From the moment the baby is born the sex has already been decided by God. Love the baby and be thankful. That little one is a precious gift from God to the young couple. Be happy. And love it Don't kill it. She or he did you no harm
@@altasadventures1139 U really shouldn't assume things buddy. You know nothing about me. I wasn't born yesterday. I have watched plenty and plenty of episodes of Bonanza, and all the other Westerns. And seen many a guy be disrespectful to his woman. Thinking the woman was only good for housekeeping and such. I can only hope your not dumb enough to believe that's the way it should be. And that girls are just as important as the boys are. And that the boys are not superior to the woman. Only a fool would think that way
We've seen many girls, and women, who wore pants on this show so I don't understand what Ben's problem was with Sam's clothes. He could at least let her wear pants around the ranch but make her wear a dress when they go into town. And secondly, whats with all the people who leave their kids with Ben like he runs an orphanage? I know Ben doesn't mind, but seriously, Virginia City needs a social worker just to handle all the kids that get dumped off at the Ponderosa.
