The people dismissing the possibility of a tsunami shocked me. “I’m not afraid”?? Better safe than sorry, and have you SEEN what happens when people don’t have enough warning to escape a tsunami? I’d rather lose a day of my vacation for nothing on a good day than risk it on a bad day and die.

literally! i’ve seen so many horror movies and documentaries where people on the beach just don’t make it out alive bc once a tsunami hits if it is big enough you’re getting sucked out to sea or slammed into something if you don’t drown first. people are so bold. plus it’s not like the beach is the ONLY thing to do in australia. i’m sure there are thousands of other touristy things to do.

Really there is only the beach for our entertainment or having barbeques. Where I live tho there are very little people that go to the beach in Australia probably cause they are busy at home on their phones

I'm not sure Australia has ever experienced a tsunami. The cliffs near Bondi are high so they can get to safety pretty quick. If the ocean receded, they would leave pretty quick. I think they understood what to look out for.

as a former lifeguard the amount of times ppl would be outright mean to us was insane. i once was the only guard on stand (worked at a shitty country club and we were understaffed that day only two guards available) and some lady was letting her little girls swim with one of those mermaid tails that goes up your legs and they swam into the deep end and started struggling a bit (obviously) and the mom got mad at ME bc her kid was having a hard time. like bestie tell your child to go to the shallow end if they can’t swim great, i have other people in the pool to watch. parents are meant to keep their kids out of danger and prevent an accident. a lifeguards main job is supposed to be saving people when accidents do happen. we aren’t meant to be spending all our time telling people common sense

i’ve watched this show on and off for years, i am pure american and pretty scared of oceans, but i absolutely love this show. Idk why it is so addicting and entertaining, but watching this show has honestly helped my fear of oceans. If the lifeguards were as good and aware as you guys are i would have absolutely no problem with oceans!

The shark looked more like a Sand Tiger Shark rather than a Bull Shark. The tail and head shape are key features. They are relatively docile sharks, but great work on the lifeguards for being diligent on protecting the public. 3:55

Agh, I remember once I got in a riptide with my dad. I was to short to touch the ground so I was swimming circles around him, but he could feel that we were getting pushed away from shore. This was in Italy, it was cold, and there were no nets or boats out or anything like that. A guy that had some sort of authority on the beach saw us, and pushed us back to shore. Very nice of him :3

I'm from the just past the Outer Banks of North Carolina, USA. There are only a couple of counties who have active fog delays for schools. The rest of my state laughs at us. Due to the position of the inner and outer banks of the Atlantic Ocean, we get some killer fog. It can get bad enough that you can barely see further than your hands. It's like something out of a Stephen King novel.

I'm 100% too anxious to not listen to warnings. Humans are so fragile anything could happen so if they say stay out for a bit just do it. Better safe than sorry. Especially if because of you a rescuer loses their life saving your foolish self.

I could be wrong but in the first clip that looks somewhat more like a sand tiger shark to me than a bull shark. The fin is a bit far back and the head shape is a bit different.

I'm not gonna lie you would think with fog and you're going to a beach that is known for flash rips and you go while it's extremely fogging and you know there are lifeguards who need to see if people are trouble, people would be smart about that and be like 'yeah, nah, I'm gonna stay home and wait for a clear day' not just stay at the beach where lifeguards can't see to know if someone is in danger

I’ve worked in tourism for just under 20 years. Tourists or those on a day off don’t read signs AT ALL. They could have signs plastered on gates they have to pass through and they still wouldn’t read the signs.

I was at a beach just an hour from Sydney yesterday and saw 7+ sharks in the bay! No warnings or anything and no one really cared (or even noticed haha)! Not sure what kind of shark it was but it looked kinda similar but was also 2m+ but I got some great videos of it!

Go to a gold coast canal. There are heaps of them. The funniest story was a guy trying to fish off his balcony near bond uni and dropping a 4 foot bull shark on the ladies balcony below his. She got a real shock when she went outside

Okay I understand being in the walk down and everything because of covid but people's also got to understand for those who are healthy being out in the fresh air is better for them then being stuck at home not being able to do anything I can understand the people who are sick because it helps not getting other people sick but those who aren't sick it is better for them to be out and about in the fresh air than being stuck in the same place for days on in breathing the same are even with the windows open being out in public health
