"The year is 2034, Silksong is still in development. Society collapsed long ago but three rogue game devs stand against adversity in their quest to finish the game."
the year is 2057, silsong released in 2049, however is still getting regular updates and they are working on DLC 6, the knight is a playable character found after you 100% the game, and the hollow knight is playable after you 101% it. Then finally at 200% completion you get to play, as hornet.
@@justsomeannoyingredpanda yeah lace sounds like a boss theme and this sounds like a theme for an area, but they’re both good I think boss themes get the most views tho
Challenge Accepted: I believe Silksong's plot will be one of overcoming self-doubt after failure. Hornet was captured, and has fallen to the bottom of the world, essentially at rock-bottom (as the common phrase would go) this song has a morose and "somber" (quoted from TC themselves) quality to it. This is Hornet's figurative and physical rock-bottom. She has no friends, and is alone, likely in a pretty bad location based on the name of the town. The aim of her journey is to reach the top of Pharloom, where a Citadel apparently awaits her. She and the other travellers are referred to as Pilgrims, seeking self-improvement by climbing to the top of the world, so Hornet's journey upward will possibly be likened to overcoming her failures. (also to note, she was around at the fall of Hallownest as a child, so has gone through some shit in her past too)
I got it on sale for like 7 bucks and felt like a thief after playing it. Then spent more than 100 to get the Limited Edition and felt much better, although that was a bit steep with shipping, customs, etc..
My father would always listen to me blabber about video games every day. He’d surprise buy me games all the time. This game- a game we know little to nothing about still. Actually holds a special place in my heart already. I would talk to him all the time. About the lack of info. The first game. The music drops. The lore videos I watched about the game. I doubt he understood any of it, but he had a smile on his face listening to me about it. I’m 20 currently. (I was 17 when this game was first shown at E3) and my father has sadly passed away a few months ago this year due to a failed kidney surgery because he had a tumor. I’m sure, after today, if he saw the look on my face. The amount of talking I’ve done about this game today. If he were to hear me screaming in excitement that I got to see just a MINUTE of this game. Happy that’s it’s coming out within a year maximum… well. I’m sure he’d have the same smile he always did. But I just wish I got to see it. Thanks team cherry, even if I haven’t played the game yet. I can not wait to play it. And I’m sure it will lead to many memories to come. love you dad.
"in Hollow knight, you entered the kingdom through a town calle dirtmouth, it's only natural in the sequel you entered the new kingdom of Pharloom through it's butt"-mossbag
The thing about Dirtmouth is that it was a town that still had warmth. Elder Bug talks about how he's all alone but as the game progresses you participate in bringing everyone back home. And if you give him the flower, he remarks on how dreams are not so bad after all. It's a town that can potentially recover. Especially with choices like banishing the Troupe. Nymm appears and his accordion playing fills the town with an even more hopeful tone. Everyone is managing and has adapted well to the life there. This seems more like everyone has completely given up hope, with Hornet being the only one left with some sort of goal. Like someone else mentioned, this sounds a lot more like Resting Grounds in terms of atmosphere
One thing I'm interested to see from silksong is how it will handle its radically different protagonist. The knight was an enigma. No matter what he did, it made sense. On the other hand we know who hornet is, that she can speak, that she has values, and maybe an agenda too.
I think the story will be more constructed. With hollow knight, Team Cherry didn’t really know what they were doing, and left some loose ends. The “hollow” thing might have been chosen to make the story make more sense. Now that they have experience and a story to go off of, you’ll have more clear instructions and a precise story, likely with many endings to make it less constrictive.
@@theblob2937 Team Cherry didn't know what they were doing with Hollow Knight? I'm sure they did. If they wanted to, they could have made the Radiance be its own final boss far away from the Black Egg. They put it inside the Hollow Knight because they knew what the lore was, and so do we. The story is already precise, and there are no loose ends, only questions that don't matter, like "What happened to Isma," or "Is Hegemol dead."
@@gu3z185 I’m saying that they didn’t have as much experience. There are multiple things that don’t add up in the lore that are more important than that. Now, they can make a better lore with a more challenging topic
I'm going to stay a while in Bonebottom the first time I get there. For about 9 minutes I'll just be contemplating life, thanking God that the game released and thanking game developers for existing. Until then, we have to be patient, we're going to get the game when it's ready... It's going to be perfect
Apart from it being a masterpiece, I like the fact that this music is played with string instruments and a piano. But a piano not only has strings, but its keys were also originally made from bones. And this section is called Bone-Bottom. It's perfect.
If Silksong is anywhere remotely close to the level of quality as Hollow Knight I am seriously hoping the team displays more confidence in their product and prices it $20 or higher. I genuinely believe Hollow Knight was worth minimum $30 after all the free expansions
Whoops I think you made a typo there! You see where you said $30 I think you meant $60 because this masterpiece is worth more than most AAA games I have played. It's okay though, even the best of us make typos.
I love how something as simple as a change in instrumentation (violin & harp vs viola & piano, in terms of overall soundtrack) can cause such an entirely different feeling and mood. Gorgeous as ever. One thing all the fans can agree on is that the music is what really brought Hollowknight to life, Larkin truly provided the atmosphere the game needed. Music is what really conveys the emotions you're intended to feel, visuals alone can't cut it. I can't wait to hear more Silksong ost, especially given that while Hallownest was a sad old dead kingdom, Pharloom is alive and bright.
You know I bought Hollow Knight for the price I paid purely for the art work and sound track. The great game was just a bonus to me. Well worth the money.
I always get nervous when my favorite musicians release new music. There's always a fear in my head that it won't be able to live up to what they've done in the past. These two samples have wiped every single inkling of fear from my head. I'm somehow even more excited for Silksong now.
I bet the melody from 2:15 to the end will be the leit motif of silksong. I can almost guarantee you will hear this while fighting the final boss like the notes from the path of pain music were from hollow knight.
Polishing it is better than releasing it faster anyway,Just like with STALKER 2 Though even if people pull me away from that thought(Wether seriously or Jokingly),Team cherry would still have my word of wait and trust
First half reminds me of City of Tears Second Half is literally the new resting grounds Man I wonder what sad or terrible event will occur in this area
There might not be a major sad event but it might sound sad because it's called bone bottom for a reason. It sounds like your thinking why are the bones there
@@yosheggs most likely a kind of graveyard, maybe this game’s abyss equivalent area. I’m more and more excited for this game with every tiny bit of content we get
Personally I find the first half as somber and sad, like you've hit rock bottom (You kinda have, in the context of the game). The second half sounds hopeful, like a feeling of "You can only go up from here". I don't think its indicative of a great tragedy.
I was worried that the soundtrack to the sequel of Hollow Knight would not live up to the beautifulness and masterfulness of the latter's, but clearly I was wrong to doubt Mr. Larkin's massive skill because this sounds... just incredible. Extremely moving and bewitching piece. This soundtrack is going to be massive, just like the game as a whole
everyone else: Fantastic! This piece is one of the most beautiful in the Hollow Knight series; the transition from the harp into the beautifully toned violin gives more depth and resonance to an already well-coordinated melodic structure. me: yyyYYYYYYYYYYYAAAAAAAAAAAAA
It's Hollow Knight's 5th anniversary, and I finally caved and listened to this song in full (been avoiding this since reveal because I wanted to go into the game as blind as possible and I thought Silksong would release soon. Lol.) The part from 1:43 to the end is so beautiful, it makes me want to cry. I cannot wait for this game.
it almost feels ironic that they gave us such a somber track as a preview, the music feels like a representation of how actually miserable waiting for games is. Really hoping i'll get to hear the full soundtrack sometime soon, because even just THIS is incredible.
I am dying. Christopher Larkin has killed me. I'm going to cry when I play this game. I'm so fucking excited for Silksong I have to stop thinking about it sometimes. I haven't felt this way about games until Team Cherry came along.
He commented that 2 years ago, they are still working on it,just proving how much they want it to be good, and we will shed even more tears considering it is improving every day
Bonebottom is first town in Silksong. It's theme in C Minor. Dirthmouth is first town in Hollow Knight. It's theme is too in C Minor. They are so similiar.
I'm going to be 100% honest, those strings at 0:51 hit me harder in the heart than anything in the first game, yes that includes the Hollow Knight's theme. I can already tell Silksong is going to be a massive improvement upon the original, and at least music wise, could be the best sequel in terms of improving upon the strengths of the original. Thank you Mr. Larkin for all of the masterpieces you've given us.
This piece is absolutely fantastic, I got goosebumps all over. Christopher you’re doing an wonderful job, thank you for always delivering such beautiful music :) Man I can’t wait to put Silksong’s whole ost on repeat like a maniac!! And crying at 2am because of it
When I play Silksong (WHEN, because I refuse to die before it comes out), I’m going to have a seat and listen to the area themes every time I enter a new one. Just gonna siddown and stay a spell.
I can't wait to be running (her normal walk cycle is called running, and walk is triggered in towns, and now we got a separate button for sprint), but I can't wait to be running through moss grotto, and all of the sudden I'll start walking and I'll hear this music. It's going to feel so fulfilling to finally hear the music in game.
Oh. My. God This whole song is an unforgettable masterpiece, way before the game it's displayed in will even come out... there's just something about that just truly captures the depressing name of the town it so well describes, and like I said, the game ain't even out yet! And damn those strings are insane. But to me the best part about it is the final note, usually we get a signature 5 note leitmotif at the end of these types of songs, but with this, it is just one last resounding note... Incredible
Larkin came out of nowhere and composed my favorite OST of all time in Hollow Knight. The madman is quite literally about to go even further beyond with this game’s soundtrack.
i have no idea why, but every note in this song shoots me in the heart. it is so beautiful. i love it so much. genuinelt moving and its just a town theme lol
Christofer Larkin is back and he brings his magic with him. What a legend. (also can i say ALL HOLLOW KNIGHT ALBUM COVER ARTS ARE AMAZING AND THIS IS JUST NEXT LEVEL?!)
If/when silksong's release date announcement appears you know all those old comments are gonna be flooded under a storm of people going like "THE SILKSONG IS REAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLL"
Though completely different in tone to it, this song has the same "swell" effect the City of Tears one does at 1:42, which makes me think it'll be similar in that the first part of Bonebottom is small caves and rooms, then you go into the main area of Bonebottom, and see this vast, run down town... and the music swells... Christopher Larkin is an amazing composer.
Absolutely fantastic! You outdo yourself and bring one of the best aspects of Hollow Knight and I'm sure this game to life. This rings out like Enter Hallownest did, but with a more somber, calmer, and quietly tense tune. I can't wait.
when i finished 8th grade i was very excited about this game after the xbox trailer now i hope we get just a little crumb of good news before i finish the 10th
this soundtrack displays a sorrow and loss but yet some comfort representing bone bottom itself, a place where others have been lost, and have possibly passed away unable to accomplish their goals which is sorrowful but yet they found a resting place on their endless journey which is kind of comforting.
If the only reason why they delayed was because they wanted to polish the game and stuff, then I would be surprised if it didn’t release 1 or two years later. But maybe that’s just me clowning.
@@scissy most if not all if HK music was made digitally. This one and the rest of SS music will be made with real instruments with real people playing it.
Damn I can't believe everyone has been waiting for this game for almost three years. just played hollow knight for the first time so I'm joining the wait super late.
This song reminds me of the exact kind of feelings that made me fall in live with the first game. It has that same kinda vibe of haunting, melancholy beauty. Plus it just sounds gorgeous!
What I find amazing about these two previewed tracks, is how Christopher adds the strings seemingly the higher you climb in the game. At the bottom, we have Bonebottom, which starts with primarily piano. Piano was the primary instrument in Hollow Knight (we go deeper in that game). Lace, which I imagine is a somewhat early boss, mostly just has string instruments. I love that he did this. The higher we climb, the soundtrack follows with more and more stringed instruments. Beautiful.
The somberness in this is very exciting love the atmosphere this is going for, I’d love to see how it fits in action, but it already has me loving the variety. 2 songs in and I’m already invested...I mean I was invested from the start but still
Yeeeeeeeeeeeeessssssssssss! I've been waiting for any kind of Silksong anything for months and we finally we have something! Thank you Christopher Larkin for blessing my ears with this masterpiece!
A change in tempo and a missing key compared to the HK menu theme. It changes the track from simply melancholic to something that feels stuck, unable to fight against its problems, left to forever repeat its self-destructing cycle. And then the violin is used not to create a sense of mystery and creepiness, but of compassion and understanding, like a saviour that came to release you from your turmoil, to end your suffering. Damn Christopher, you've done it again. I can't wait for the full release.
Es triste pero es tan extremadamente perfecta ! Lo que más impresionado me deja es como pueden llegar a hacer que un videojuego que no ha salido con una sola canción logré transmitir tantas cosas ! Simplemente es arte.
Its been a while since the apocalypse and its almost gone two developers named william and ari decided to finish silksong and after a few days it was released and it was good the community formed again and they fought the apocalypse the end.
It is almost like a beautiful transition. Transitioning from the somber piano tunes of Hollow knight to the long strokes of string instraments which are the backbone of silksong.
Every time I play hollow knight it's impossible to not look at the map and miss my first play through I just want something else, another experience to miss it again later
My favorite part is 1:25 it gets me everytime is the harp doing that new melody? It’s so captivating and I can’t wait to just sit in bonebottom as hornet ... just listening to this thinking wow this journey up farloom is gonna be incredible, a journey, depressing(I’ve always liked things that have saddened undertones), and overall a breath of fresh air. Amazing job team cherry and Christopher Larkin keep up this amazing work! ❤️
My favorite part is from the beginning until 1:25 . I loved the first beat but starting 1:25 it lost its catchyness. I dunno what the instruments are called but it’s funny how ppl can be different
