Hi, I'm in Sydney, and we had the same experience of bonfire night but in June, your video brings back wonderful memories for me.. cheers from Australia.😊
Brought back memories of my dad and I lighting all those brands of fireworks you mentioned in the playground by our block of flats in the 70’s and early 80’s.
I live in Canada now and miss bonfire night so much, like you I’m just filled with nostalgia when autumn hits, I’ve watched your film about 50 times now and the memories it evokes are wonderful, thank you.
This brings back so many happy memories, seeing the fireworks in the shop, this was the highlight of the year for me, i knew every shop that sold fireworks and bought from many of them, i used to buy nearly the entire range from Standard each year, we always had a huge bonfire in the back garden, nearly everyone did back then, i'm now 63 but still celebrate every year with a good display of at least two hours, sadly all British made fireworks are long gone, all Chinese now and much bigger but still as enjoyable, i had a cake from Ardi this year and very good it was too!
Love this, only just found it. You are right there is something magical about the seasonality of Autumn that still brings out the kid in me too! I fire large displays every year. However as much as I love everything about fireworks today, they don't come close to the sheer wonder and excitement of those British made blue touch fireworks I grow up loving as a kid in the 1970's and 80's. As you mentioned it was the names, the eye catching colourful labels, the smell of the gunpowder..great memories. Thanks you for sharing.
Thanks for taking time out to write a comment, always appreciated. Yes, of course you're right, you can't beat the vintage stuff. The packaging/labels just aren't as good as the old days. That's why my next upload is about me designing a vintage firework label. See you the next time around.
This video brought back nostalgic memories of my childhood in the '70s, a time filled with joy and laughter. Growing up during that era forged a deep and lasting bond between me and the world of fireworks. Even now, in my later years, the colors, sounds, and smells bring a sense of nostalgia, connecting me to the carefree days of my youth. Thanks for sharing this enjoyable video - it's a delightful journey down memory lane, reminding me of the simple yet profound joys that have stood the test of time.
That firework code piece of paper at the start was what I grew up with and I used to do drawings of the rocket man all the time. Lol I am 2 seconds in to the video and I had to comment this could be a long night.
Got one of these.. as I collect old printed items, all kinds including bonfire night stuff... Think thee leaflets date from very late 1960s, and the design has changed a bit over the years.
I really enjoyed this, thank you. So many old memories and feelings came back. You got the nostalgia bang on. A week to go, can't wait. Hope you enjoy yours, too x
Me too though I'm from the 50s generatiion...1d for the guy. Collecting wood ( mostly old furniture and branches + newspapers etc.).... CHEAP fireworks from our local newsagents or post office... Bangers at 1d or 2d each. And usually my dad would would bfing home a box of Brocks or Pains 10 /- or a £1. And yes those SMELLS!!!! Bonfire smoke and gunpowder. Next day a hunt for any stuff that had not gone off... Maybe a fountain or two perhaps a rocket... Fun days which have now been meddled out of existence by the health and safety nut cases. Anyone else got nice memories? 😊😊
Yes, for me the dead firework hunt the following day was definitely a lot of fun. I still do it. We've got a big garden here in France, so finding stray rockets us a lot easier. My daughter enjoys the hunt to.
Great video mate. So you're a firework sniffer too? Here's me thinking I was the only one! 😃 Nothing like the smell of those fireworks. The footage of the old fireworks behind the counter brought great memories. I'm 52 now and from Manchester. I can still remember walking down the passage near my old house, back in the late 70s, when it was pitch black and foggy, watching through the bushes, the big roaring fire and fireworks going into the air, in the back garden of our nearby neighbors house. They've long gone now, but every year, when I walk down that alleyway, I'm straight back there. I love this period of the year, especially Halloween and Bonny night. It was great when you used to see all your neighbors bonfires in the back garden with all the flame's silhouetting off the walls with the orange glow. Everything is too health and safety conscious now, and the risks we all used to love to take, has now gone. I agree with you regarding being able to still buy your own fireworks, but with the way things are going, that too will be a memory for us, in the future. Thank you for your great post. Like you, I will always love Bonny night, but there's no doubt, that the best times were back in our day's and earlier. Let's be grateful we had those times. Never grow up my friend, because old age bloody sucks! Warmest wishes to you and family. Tony 👍👍
Thanks for taking your time out to write such an amazing comment. Us firework sniffers are a rare thing (and getting rarer). I am planning on putting together a short film about the day after (November 6th) and the joy of hunting dead fireworks. Would you mind if I use some of your comment text in the film? d.
Yes late 70s early 80s for me and it was always bonfire night, memories of making the guy with old clothes from my mum's 'rag bag' and loads of newspaper to stuff it full. Building the bonfire in the garden and then waiting for it to get dark enough and pestering my dad to light the bonfire and then throwing the guy on.. All the shops use to sell fireworks back then, big boxes of Standard fireworks. Baked potatoes either in the oven or on the bonfire :) yes, shame those days are gone now, you do have to wonder how we never managed to kill ourselves or burn half the street down. How many kids these days have even made a guy?
@@1974kelvo Yep, I agree with you 100%. The great old Guy and sitting on the steps outside the old pubs, hoping to get a few pennies to spend on fireworks. Warmest wishes. Tony 👍
Hello from over here in Germany! Just found that video and liked it immensely, being an avid fireworks lover too with similar childhood memories - ok, for me it was the 80s and new year's eve, but the feeling, excitement (and the smelling too) is the same 😊
Hey Alexander, really pleased you enjoyed the film. Ultimately, I believe it's the whole build up to the night of fireworks, don't you? It's nice knowing that there are other people out there with the same passion. I am planning on do another film about some of the background to firework label design.
@@NutsinMaySounds good, I'm looking forward to it! Yes, I think it is somehow a universal thing and has a lot to do with feelings and personal traditions. There is a German fireworks internet forum, I shared your video there too, lot of positive feedback there
I can't believe I found this through the Firework nostalgia UK FB group. I used to go the exact same shop before it became Bracknell Fireworks and then Star Fireworks. I remember the old guy in there and he'd always advise me to get the german rockets instead of Standard, they were amazing.
Hi Michael, the original incarnation of what is now 'Star Fireworks' was a really special place during my childhood. So many memories about the place. To hear from you - someone else who visited 'Mydons' back in the golden days, is remarkable. I sent a link to the video to Star Fireworks, it took them back a bit to. Please do subscribe to my channel 'Nuts in May' I would like to have you aboard - I've got more firework related content in the pipeline. Have a good weekend.
@@NutsinMay and May 66uAs soon as I can figure out how to do it! What I can rell you is that it's more or less identical to the two you show on your video.. Later ones begin to get "nasty" looking. Would be right in thinking that you collect Firework ephemera.. or would like to? You certainly collect memories! I have found a few items, boxes ect, by asking around, ephemera dealers and flea markets etc Your attitude to Bonfire night mirrors mine.. though I'm from an earlier generation. Mean time try going to BEST GUYS GET THE PRIZE. available here on U tube along with another one, GUY FAWKES COMPETION. These are both Pathe News reels. Guy making...i used to sti ch the base of old trousers, stuff with newspapers, ditto any old jacket/ pullover make head, attach mask.. Bingo! Off to bus stop. 😊😊... Happy days!
Thanks, I hope have my Guy film finished and uploaded on to youtube tonight. If you are already subscribed to the channel, click on the notification bell/button. Thanks for your comment, stay in touch and have a super Bonfire Night yourself. 🧨🧨🧨
Nice ! Devil Amongst The Tailors was quite expensive, about £8 if I remember correctly (which was a lot of money back then!) Some nice vintage pics of fireworks on our Instagram @fireworkevents ✌🏻❤️
