Sounded good, bro. I've been trying to learn this song with Ultimate Guitar, but I really like how you've enlarged the chordage. Haunting is the perfect description of this classic ballad of unrequited love. So powerful.
Haha great, I just took Just the way it is on my solo acoustic setlist and now I'm trying to find a place to play this song in a key I can actually sing!!
I love this song and your arrangement. Your singing helps a great deal to locate where I am in the melody when learning it. Thank you for this great lesson. One thing I can’t find on RU-vid is how to transpose melody. Chords yes, all over RU-vid. Please can you do a lesson sometime on how to transpose this or another songs melody to a different key. I have to have the capo at the 7th fret to get the power in my voice for this song. I played around with it in F where it is much easier to sing but can’t figure out the melody on guitar very well. Should make an interesting idea for a future lesson. Thanks again
Nice job keeping it in the correct key. You might want to re-listen to the chorus, but to each his own. Bruce Hornsby's outro acoustic piano is just sublime. It might be mentioned he incorporates the Eb Lydian (An) scale like a good jazzer does on those riffs, and also grabs a few taste-y blues licks on the Gm7 & Cm9s. I guess if I was that cool, I could play with the "Dead" too. I think the two just "hitch-up and cry" chords are the two last ones... (also subject to interpretation) arpeggiated downward (two-handed) Abj7 2nd inversion, followed by an Ebj7 2nd inversion in the right hand over a Bbj7 2nd inversion in the left. One could just play the Bbj7 in root alone as the last chord if desired.
