Man, I love this channel. Right move, Sue Peacock! I Second That Emotion. Michael, "The Bottom Line" rocks. Reminds me of a juicy column from a wayyy back rock mag. Even a jounger Jann's Rolling Stone when you can fold it and it actually covered rock n roll. I've enjoyed The Bottom Line so much over the last month it's definitely worth the price I would have happily spent on a rock mag. BTW, I could not believe The Doobies and those other artists you mentioned weren't already gathering dust in the rock n roll Cell o' Fane. Looking forward to your episode on that list. Finally, head's up news-to-me))))) David Bowie turning down Yon Winner and his Ralph & Roll Ball of Phlegm. The Space Oddity has earned a posthumous metric ton of my respect today. (Wasn't really a fan before. Before.) Think I'll put on his Scary Monsters and Super Freaks in his refreshing honor right now. Congrats on reading this entire comment! Here's a picture of me smiling :D
Hi. This is an addition to a comment i made elsewhere. Im trying to stick this in as a 'reply' because even memtioning this get my comment erased. Sorry. So,I host my own music program. I cover all extremes of music and recorded sound therefore alienating a large audience but I can't help it. I love it all! I'd love for you to check it out if you'd be interested. I can't put a link here because the comment automatically gets deleted. Anyhow, I'm looking for an audience and I think you'd appreciate what I do. Cheers Michael.
By the way folks, I errantly reported that the Doobie Bros weren’t in TR&RHoF, and they are! They were inducted in 2020! But still YEARS TOO LATE, Jann! Sorry guys!
Can you at least be happy you saw them inducted before the whole band died Michael? Jann could have been more spiteful and inducted them once all the members died
I saw them a long time ago . It was September 2nd 1975 and the healiners were the Doobies, The Beach Boys, New Riders, Jefferson Starship, America, Stanky Brown and John Sebastian showed up. At the N.Y. State Fairgrounds in Syracuse N.Y. They put on a good show.
I love your perspective on the music business. I agree with your criticisms of Wenner and SJW Rockers. The Doobie Brothers did finally make the HOF a couple of years ago. Too many classic bands get snubbed for one-hit wonders who meet a demographic. Keep up the good work.👍
I’m sure Jan Werner is the one who delayed Paul McCartney’s solo inclusion into the Hall of Fame to the point where his daughter Stella wore a T-shirt to the induction ceremony that said “it’s f ing” time!
My father used to get AARP magazine. I clearly remember getting it out of the mailbox and seeing the cover reading about Springsteen joining AARP. I thought “ wow, that’s the guy who declared him self the new Woody Guthrie. “ what joke.
Great show Michael! Love your views, thoughts and rants. Never much of a fan of those Mount Rockmore musicians. That photo is something else! And yes, so many bands deserve being in the Hall Of Fame! Foreigner, Bad Company, Boston and Doobie Brothers and more! Blessings and love to you, your family and your rock and roll channel! I feel like I'm watching MTV for the first time when I watch. Between your rock education talks you should post unknown talent that you discovered, music videos. You should produce your own music network. Go 24/7 live rock stream.
Once again you pierce the pompous balloon of these "I'm just a simple guy who followed a dream" guys. You voice the thoughts that many of us have kept to ourselves and somehow combine truth while adding charm and humor. You're really good at it and I hope you know how all of us "tribe' members look forward to each and every episode. Can't wait for the next one.
My rock and roll lifestyle was sporadic at best. Played in a few bands in college that did shows at CBGB in mid 80s. Worked at the Bottom Line in the late 80s and rubbed elbows with people like John Entwhistle among others. Was a roadie/spotlight guy for Buster Poindexter (David Johansen) on New Year's Eve 1989 at The Limelight in NY. I was an extra in the Rock This Town video by the Stray Cats. Not a stellar rock resume but I have a few decent anecdotes I can tell at parties.
I used to have a subscription to Rolling stone. When Gary Moore died, I expected to see a tribute to him. What I got was a little two paragraph article and on the cover of the same issue was Justin Bieber. I canceled my subscription that day.
Mike, great video! I also lived the Rock and roll life. In the 60s I was in a garage band. I also worked in the record business. I'm so sick of Jann Wenner and Boring Stone magazine. I couldn't agree more with you. Bono is boring and pretentious. Springsteen looks like Woody Allen these days. I like Woody better. The Rock and roll Hall of Fame is nothing but a bunch of millionaires telling each other how wonderful they are.
@@Thomasmemoryscentral Mick probably agrees with Mr. Noland as to a lot of this cheesy BS. He never comes across as pseudo-apologetic nor condescending towards the public. Every (later career) interview or picture I've seen he has a look and a wry grin that seems to say "isn't this some dumb shit, though?". Yeah, it surely is Mick.
@@usaturnuranus Ah alright. Guess Mick just wanted to go for a photo shoot here I guess? Your description of him for later career interested sounds to me he is fine with where he is and doesnt talk down to his fans
Well, the only Bono/U2 songs I ever liked was I will follow(?) & Bullet The Blue Sky, other than those I've always thought they were shit! Now that he's openly NWO, guess my instincts were correct?! As for Bruce fukn Springsteen, as a former 30 yr road-dog musician myself, I've never understood people thinking he was anything close to great! I've tried, & tried, & tried to like him, & over the yrs watched at least 3 of his concerts to re-visit my yesteryear's crap, cause can always turn out to be your today's jam, but he runs around the stage like he's James fukn Brown, covered in sweat for 3 hrs, & yet my toe doesn't tap once! I'm just in awe at the 1 artist that literally does absolutely nothing for me, & then turn around & see people worship the man & call him the Boss??? GTFOH! Makes U2 look like The gd Beatles! I would say my loss, & to each their own, but add to that that he & Pearl Jam & Beijing's NBA boycotted entire states of fans because they didn't want their kids diddled by pervs in public bathrooms, & they can all ES&D!!! New here, so sorry to drag in the negativity, but those 2 mofos are demons in my eyes anymore, brother! You should put a trigger warning on that shit! Makes me feel like a gd safe-space Millennial!!! Sorry, bro... It is what it is!!! ✌🤣✌🤣✌🤣❤
im remember seeing bono drooling away over sinatra how it is his world and we just get to live in it bullshit about a guy who liked to hang out with gangsters.
Hey Michael! My FAVE channel on youtube! Btw..My Uncle was a producer at A&M RECORDS HOLLYWOOD from 1969-1999. My SUMMERS were spent in California at their home beginning when I was only 5 years old. This kid was given privilege to roam those studios ,and meet the best in music entertainment.Ive never been "star struck" a day in my life.I also was present from 1am-6am two nights in a row watching the very best record " We Are The World", USA 4 AFRICA.My Uncle also built the black riser stage they all stood on and taped off all the solo singers names to the floor. The sign on the door 🚪 to enter the studio 🎙 says: " Leave your ego at the door." I'm gonna write a book because I've got the stories on the music entertainment business.I do wanna thank Herb Alpert for his kindness many years.I was even asked to go get my degree in entertainment contract LAW so I could work at A&M. Everything you're reporting on scumbag Jann Wenner is TRUTH! I've got some stories but I best leave all of them for the book I'm writing.I'm disgusted at " all the NON ROCK BANDS " Wenner has placed in the RRHOF. And hundreds of ROCK bands yet to be inducted because they wouldn't KISS his rearend....literally! Money talks and so does Epsteins little island.I might need to hire a bodyguard if I don't shut my mouth right now. Keep the videos comin' ! Creem Mag is going back into print and I bought a subscription.Creem Editors tell all the juice and luckily Wenner cannot buy them off.I'm GEN X, 1965 and AARP started sending me stuff the day I turned 50.That little " foursome" picture is EXACTLY that if you get my drift.
I totally agree about Bono. He just can't wait to pour his latest revelation out of his mouth! If only the world listened to him, it would be a better place.😆
HA!!! I knew when you said the three 'axis of power' that you were going to say, Mr. Klien, dare I say, is the MOST hated man in R-n-R from Sam Cooke, The Beatles to the Rolling Stones! He was pure EVIL!!!!!!!! I love how John Lennon said in an interview that 'Paul's instincts were right about Mr. Klien'....
@@MichaelNoland-TheBottomLine love to see you give Klein his own video covering his many greedy screwups especially the one for suing The verve using a Rolling Stones sample and them not getting the rights back until 2019 from Keith and Mick Jagger long after Klein died
Yep. I started and stopped reading Rolling Stone in the 80s. I realized then that there had to be magazines that were about music. Amyhow..... My rock and roll lifestyle: started playing guitar at age 8 in Jan 1976. While still at home, I Loaded up on guitars and stomp boxes. Instead of doing homework, I learned how to play Rush songs and Pink Floyd The Wall. Ritchie Blackmore caused me to buy my first Strat in 86. I bought a ton of records. The internet caused me to buy even more. I'd hear something that sounded or even looked neat. I'd download a cheap mp3 of it (I know, I know) and invariably would she'll out the money for a vinyl copy of that. And to save on shipping, I'd add two or three other albums to the cart. Cheers Michael.
All of those bands you mentioned should be in the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame. I don't know why they aren't. I discovered most of them when I was in my college years.
Oh check this out. My late husband niece lives in Bakersfield. Lubbock West! She hung out with Merle Haggard's daughter. My brother in law had a church there for 40 years. Merle & Buck would come to his house for coffee. Jack a mules also. I wish I was out there with you. God Bless!
The rock & roll hall of fame is a joke! It has nothing to do with talent, IMHO it has everything to do with who you know or who knows you. I went to it ONCE some 20 years ago. Never again. Keep up the excellent work!!! Very glad and great full to be a part of this tribe!!!
Michael, I would add to your axis of evil whomever bought up all the radio stations and dictated corporate playlists so Deejays had no more power. Can you imagine how many great groups we would've been able to enjoy for the past 30+ years if Deejays could discover and break bands/artists the way they used to? They will never give up control, but the old business model was why we even had a classic rock era. It's hard for me to imagine anyone more evil than someone that could rob the world of art and its artists.
I love your posts Michael. No matter what it is, you are so passionate about it. No one ever comes away from one of your vids without knowing how you feel about a subject! 🙄😏
It'd be hard to think of 3 rock'n'roll superstars who've lost more street cred in 2022 than Bono, Mick, and Bruce. Any self-respecting rocker wouldn't be caught dead posing with Jann Wenner. 😄🤣😂😅
Well, they were all in Rio anyway, or was that at “B’s” mansion? When all is said & done, the true story of Mr. Wenner WILL come out historically! Thanx, Doc!👌🤔
Is it bad that I don’t know who that guy is? I think it makes my life better. I’ll just work on my acoustic set and look toward retirement after a life of window and door sales, with one wife, three dogs, 5 cats (not all animals at the same time) and unfortunately, no kids. Can’t have it all I guess. I have put out a couple records over the years and that was fun. God it good. Peace, Michael. You seem like my kinda guy.
You know Dennis, I have no idea who is ahead of any major newspaper OR magazine! And wouldn’t be aware of this guy, except his history with the Beatles and his back-stabbing ways that just widened a Chasm that might have yet been breached by the 4 Beatles! But with him, Phil Specter, and Allen Klein picking at the wound, all hope for the beatles were lost! He then furthered his attacks though Rolling Stone Magazine, and then through the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, keep McCartney off the nomination list until Lennon was on it!
“Step right up folks, get your pixel wristband, this way to the egress”, from PT Barnum to us queuing in self-checkout…The potentates are always finding new ways to bamboozle your cash to be members in the “The Snowman’s Club”
To some... Music is the bridge to the Heavens, in celebration of the ancestral Deity. Some seem to have taken Music to money hungry hoarding to the bank, rather than create the health & wellbeing of their fans. I remember "Free Concerts" where all the Musicians gathered to shine, polish and expose their Gifts. I'm an old school novice, I'm crazy & you're not!! I like your diligence about home schooling, the results show in my granddaughters (15&16) they are "Brainiacs" !!! Thank you Mr. Noland
Jann who? Never heard of him except from your videos. Good job with the videos! Keep up the good work, or is it work? Looks like you are having fun with the channel.
Hello Michael, you really are a wonderful man. I'm glad you started the channel because I love your videos. Perhaps in the near future we will watch you review the forthcoming release of Revolver. Cheers from England mate.
My man love your channel. I'm full Irish both sides but I'm first American by birth . Bono is an overrated hack . Never could stand his voice or their music . You my man are inspirational !!!
That was awesome! So sick of all these clowns. No wonder you always see Springsteen or Bono at the hall of fame. I used to have respect for these guys, but greed always wins out.
You make me happy in knowing that I'm not alone in despising these pompous jerkoffs, none more offensive in every way than Yawn Wenner. New subscriber, thanks to my buddy Dr. Vike for hipping me to you. These transmissions are great fun for this slightly embittered nearly 60 year old rock'n'roller, musician/songwriter of no repute whatsoever. Go, man, go! Right on!
LOL! Yeah that’s me all over! Diplomatic Michale! Hey wait a darned minute, I’ve never seen those two words together in a sentence before! Thanx, Dean!
I applaud you for homeschooling your daughter. Being a family man is the most important job. And my only problem with the photo is that I don’t like anyone in it.
Great video. Yeh I'm a rock star as well, only i never sold my soul, talking of whixh, RUSH bla bla bla forced into something where they wern't welcome ,by Their fans , how does that suck
Yeah, A&R people need to be tried right along with Klein, Spector, & Wenner, the 3 Axis co-conspirator’s who’ll be tried at the Great Gig in The Sky! The other two are waiting for you Jann! Thanx, Neon!
Correction, The Doobie Brothers did get in The Hall Of Fame, they were inducted in 2000 when they didn't have a big event thanks to the Covid shutting down everything that year. So HBO did a special where the inductees like The Doobies, Nine Inch Nails, Depeche Mode, T-Rex & Irving Azoff get there awards & did a speech in front of the camera and that's it.
It all ended 42 years ago Mike….when music got digitized in 1980. It’s been long over. You put it best when you said of that guy being a photo opportunistic boob. This is what it’s come down to. Jetting off w the rich n famous and scurrying out of that blue collar ghetto as fast as you humanly can. Sound familiar, Bruce?
"Rolling Stone" Magazine - which Jann Wenner co-founded - has had a "superior attitude" - going back to the early 1970s - to some rock bands - as an example (I think this review is available online) - Rolling Stone's review, from 1972, of Deep Purple's "Machine Head" - you'd never guess - from reading the review - that the album was one of all the time classic hard rock albums !
A good characterization of Jann Wenner is in the movie "Where the Buffalo Rome", where Bill Murray plays Hunter S. Thompson, Bruno Kirby plays the Jann Wenner character. As far as Dolly Parton and her request to not be inducted, you were correct, that alone makes her qualified. Duke Ellington said there's two kinds of music, good and bad. This whole genre aspect is bullshit. Jack White did some work with Loretta Lynn years ago and he described her song writing more punk than punk. If you ever seen Dolly without long sleeves? I heard she has tattoos sleeved up her arm. Have you ever seen her without a wig? I heard she has a shaved head,.
I loved it dude! I was ringing up a ladies items listening to you with my cell on the counter watching. Which is a big butt no no! I tell my customer about you spinning my cell around. Cool they say! Then you give me the BEST shout out ever!! I was like "Yeah, that's my dude!" as I raised my arms in victory! 😂 The customer was laughing! I replayed it for some customers. I had a blast with it! ✌️
10:02 .. speaking of memoirs, the best I've read, hands down, are the multiple ones by Neil Peart!! A gifted lyricist and writer!! Btw, love that PF wall hanger .. I'd love one with Eclipse lyrics (would have to be a big one though, there's a lot of "all that's" 😀)
Rock-and-Roll Mt. Rushmore. Little Richard Chuck Berry Elvis Presley Jimi Hendrix Is that a good starting point? Edit: The Beatles have their own Mountain Range.
I might get blasted for this one. But I am with Eddie Trunk on the "Rock 'N Roll Hall Of Shame" as he calls it. Why are other Genres allowed in? You won't find Zeppelin in the Hip Hop & Rap Hall of Fame, but many of the OG Hip Hop artists lend on Zeppelin as once of their influences. IDK. But they are a bad joke to start with. I mean Hell. It's in Cleveland Ohio. The only thing there of any intelligence is a sign on I-76 stating Pittsburgh PA 74 miles. BTW would you mind linking that Floyd wall hanger. I would love to get one myself.
@@MichaelNoland-TheBottomLine I'm a Pittsburgh Native, and Hardcore Steelers fan. So the stab about the sign. Browns fans will understand LOL I did go there for the Grand Opening. Haven't been back since nor do I have a desire to either.
You should cut-in footage from his performance in Perfect. He looks like a giant toddler who's always eating... and sometimes you think they're gonna cut to him and he'll have peanut butter and jelly all over his face.
I think if you're going to do your Axis of Evil when it comes to Rock, can't disagree with the three names you tossed out there, but I think Col Tom Parker, Lou Pearlman (the man behind the boy bands), Joe Simpson and Joe Jackson should get some consideration for addition to the axis of evil.
Forget the hall of fame it is pointless. We all have our qwn Hall of fame or Mount Olympus and all of us are intelligent enough to agree to disagree. As for Jann what's his face and pals you know they're all out of touch regardless if we like the music. Bono makes the other two look publicity shy. Bowie class as ever.
I so agree with you concerning Bowie, groovey! Not only an absolute genius, but THE gentleman of Rock imo! And this from a guy that didn’t like his Ziggy persona at first! One my Titans listed on my ‘About Page’ btw!👌🤔❤️👍✌️🏝
I love Alex Lifeson's speech when Rush was inducted. "Blah blah blah blah blah!" And speaking of rock & roll lifestyle, this song is great: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-x1vOVki-a1s.html
Styx/Boston/Foriegner/REO Speedwagon/Bad Company are not in the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame: But, Madonna/Whitney Houston/LL Cool J/NWA/Janet Jackson/Jay Z/Notorious BIG/2Pac are. They need to make a Hip-Hop Hall of Fame for the abovementioned rock groups not in the Rock Hall. Lol. Rap is not Rock. But, we let men compete in women's sports categories, so I guess anything goes these days. I guess it won't be long until Justin Beiber/Harry Styles/B2K are in the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.
