I have successfully removed aphids from my garden using dish soap. 2 tea spoons into a spray bottle of 500ml and a good soaking of the aphids and my plants are all recovering very happily.
One of your best videos, Peter! Your trees are so beautiful and inspiring. Thank you for taking us around to see them and watch you do your "chores." It is a blessing to do what you love. Kudos to your excellent camera person.
Getting ready to leave London to head up to herons !! Iv been to herons a couple times last year but Iv been saving since then so treating myself ! Can’t wait !
Much respect, Mr Chan. Your bonsai wisdom and artists eye is inspiring. I have enjoyed. your videos very much. The junipers and maples in my yard may be feeling nervous at the sight of me with secateurs:). Thank you for sharing your passion. Greetings to Josh and the little Robin.
I keep thinking I could fit about 6 of his tables in the back yard, turn my shed into a greenhouse and a reason to fix the water well 😳 this is probably one of my worst obsessions to date. Thank you so much 💓
There you go: 390 K abo's! Seems to be speeding up and 400 K is coming. As you once said mr. Chan: "I must be doing someting right"..... I think it's very nice to see that these videos became such a success!
Was gifted my first bonsai from a good friend of mine, and I am very thankful to have stumbled upon your videos! So much knowledge in one video, I appreciate this so much!! 💛
"If you don't enjoy your work then k think you should give [it] up" Yess Peter! As many times you are so right. Thank you for your Bonsai tips and the Life tips!
I’ve just recently started watching these types of videos and it seems to me that your days are too short for the amount of things you have to do. So much knowledge and experience, so little time.
Wish that I could visit there and help! I can do the quick growth trimming about as fast as you do. I used to be afraid of cutting that much; it seemed drastic at the time. Now I know better! I just cut back the ends on some of my trees here and it was just this easy! Thank you for teaching us so well! I simply love the thick maple bonsai trees, they are my favorite. I've not had much success with them here in the Dallas/Fort Worth area of Texas.
Thank you Mr. Peter for your bonsai's way, your videos are a continuous motivation to grow up. Just a question, once of thousands, at 7:20 what kind of maple is that?
I can imagine the heavenly scent surrounding you after the pruning, I love maple scent so much that I dry them & use as potpourri 😊 amazingly young maple leaves resemble “bhang” leaves (cannabis) which grows wild here though it’s scent is like guava & effect psychedelic 😂
Was there today, 35 min in the car for me ,great people that work there always been very helpful since I had taken lessons with Peter back in 2007.Would normally say hello but he was filming this video top man
@@yoteslaya7296 I am , it is also lucky that we can all enjoy and be thankful that Peter is sharing all the key skills and attributes to succeed in bonsai :-)
Great video, I love it. I understand that you can’t sell plants to me as I’m in Australia 🇦🇺, Are you able to send a pair of the Herrons cutting implements like what you used in this video. I’m thinking about the shorter blade ends as well as the longer blade ends? Thank you for sharing 🥰🌟👌👍👏
yes i have a lot of incects to to the point i had to manuel remove them, coz some have flowers on them and the incect killer say don't use it if the are buds/flowers
i absolutely admire the way you explain and talk about bonsai. So clear and concise and straightforward. Thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge and experience. How would you control the aphids? What treatment do you use?
Hi Peter, I have moved to a flat in London with a small garden and I have bought my first Japanese maple. Bloodgood. Probably the last as I don’t have much space. I have come across your videos and now I’m worried that I will not manage my tree 😨. At the moment it’s about 30 in tall and has one bigger side branch and one small one. Can I grow it in the pot? Where do you buy best pots for maple trees? I would like to grow it perhaps up to 4 -6 ft tall . I love watching your videos but you are so fast cannot keep it up. Terminology and the skill all new to me 😬. Best Wishes Dorota.
Perfect Sunday morning tradition for me here in Canada. Water my trees, make coffee, watch Peter trim some trees. I'm not sure if this is an issue for anyone else, but the audio is quite low on this video. Could we get Peter a lavalier mic?
Apparently that client was watching a lot of the videos with the "branches protruding towards the viewer" actions. And, by creating the opened spaces between the pads you have largely eliminated the contrast between the canopy and that clearing.
Hi Peter I am new to your channel I see you prune your maples with gusto i have just purchased an acer shirasawanum Jordan for my garden and informs me to cut back long stems in march will I still be able to prune back these now we nearly in June I want to keep this plant as small as possible for my rock garden any more advise on this plant would be welcomed…great channel 👍🏻
In foraging we refer to young leaves as tender and mature leaves as course. Perhaps you can better explain hard and soft leaves with these term. Young spinach leaves are tender when eaten. Older spinach is more course or sinewy. I believe most people may understand it when explained like this.
Hello Peter. Thank you as always! I'm pretty new to this, yet extremely fascinated. I have recently bought a young japanese maple. Can I prune it even when it still has a green stem?
@@peterchan3100 Thanks Peter heer in New Zealand are we in winter so i have to do September heer in NZ we watch all your video and that help us whiff all the problems we have here are no bonsai nurseries so we have to do it like u in your jong days so your advice help us so mutch
Peter have you ever tried to make a bonsai from a Royal Empress tree? They have very large leaves. But they grow extremely fast; they have a habit of drooping on the ends when they flower. I've seen pink flowers, and purplish-blue flowers, on some Royal Empress trees in Alabama, USA. They are such a soft wood, they break easily. They are very showy.
I am a beginner in growing plants, I have two Japanese maples and the leaves have started to dry on the edges, I am worried, can you help me with some advice ??
Can You make video about Carmona? I got one but its getting yellow leaves every day and I have no idea if its to much water or not enough water, also the pot is very small and there is very little of regular soil without akadama, so not sure if I should repot it or not.
I was under the impression, that candle cutting was to be done around June, after the candle has grown out? (opened up?) I have only one Pine in my collection, a VERY young Black pine. It's only about 16" tall, and the candles have opened, and I was going to wait until about the first week of June to cut them back, trying to decide what to keep and what not to keep, in the development of this young tree.
ryan neil talks about black pines have a 2 cycle growth during summer. So even if you prune the initial candle, later in the season another one will grow so its probably best to just let the tree complete the first candle and stop a second growth
Ah... many thanks Peter!!!! Its a very young Black Pine, and I'm still uncertain if I should let these grow out, to lengthen the branches a bit, or to cut them back, to try to make the young tree bushier but encouraging more buds...Pines are a mystery to me so far. This is my first one. Thanks all for the replies...
dont black pines have 2 growth cycles per year? So pruning this candle just results in a 2nd candle later in the year. Wouldnt it be better to let the first candle harden and trim it so you dont have 2 flushes of growth?
Disease is mostly caused by environment - seldom due to the genes of the plant. Some maples though are inherently weak like many of the small leaf varieties - Kiyohime - Kotohime and so on.
