Great video as always! I wish more people took the same amount of thought and care when creating forest compositions, I kinda feel like so many people just slap seedlings together and call it a day. Anyone new to making a forest should watch this before going for it!
As usual a really insightful video explaining your thoughts and methods. Thanks for sharing, and I have no doubt this group planting will look fantastic in the future.
Couple times - after initial creation I typically let forests run wild for 6 months to encourage the roots to knit together a bit. So I think I trimmed this in July and then lightly a couple times since.
Love the Zelkova forest talk! Making me jealous with another forest build, bravo. Keep them coming. Are you gonna be offering seedlings JBP like last winter?
We will not have Bare root JBP this year - almost all our seed source was sterile in fall 2021 so very few seedlings as a result. But, good crop already getting started for the coming year! I might have some other things up my sleeve though.
If those were the Alameda seeds from 2022, then we have them germinating right now in the greenhouse. We didn't de-wing them so that can make them float. But I've taken to sowing all the seeds regardless of the float test anyway. Send us an update when you have one!
I think this one is probably about 35 trees. I didn't count. But a 25 tree forest is normally pretty cool. The largest one I have is about 60 trees. The one I did a few weeks ago with the rock was about 25. If you were doing a smaller number of trees, I'd want a larger center 2-3 trees or all the trees to be larger.
I tried to make a forest from exclusively bare root tree saplings that where not intended for bonsai...... it was next to impossible... I'm seriously considering buying some bare root saplings from you because having a shallow root base is essential for making forest or group plantings. Trying to wrangle a 5" tap root into a shallow pot was driving me crazy.. I ended up just planting them in a shallow flower pot smh..
