I have seen almost every one of these club cricket videos on youtube during lockdown - and I am surprised at just how many bowlers at English grassroots level, 'bowl' with a bent arm. No one seems to complain - unless of course you look subcontinental.

Thanks - good point you raise. Though at the end of the day this is recreational cricket - people are out there enjoying it, that’s the main thing. The pro game can deal with bent arms - and IMHO slightly bent arms don’t really make any difference anyway

Peter Brennan I agree - we should have gone for it. There was nothing to lose from doing so, and only a single point to gain from settling for the draw.

Not agreat fan of winning or losing draws......if you don't get the runs you lose......but some great action thanks Dan......one of their bowlers looked like Merv Hughes.....stay safe......

Martin Heslip as a spin bowler I love the draw and see it as a vital element of cricket adding to its richness of possibilities. The art of bowling second against a team who don’t appear to be “going for the win” and having to coax then into playing shots which lure them to defeat is as thrilling as chasing down a target. Unfortunately this seems to be a dying art in club cricket

@@SandersteadCCTV yes true we have winning and losing draws in the Cornwall league.....great videos as always....what's the news for this season.....our North Devon league has been cancelled due to the virus....

Martin Heslip still waiting. We can train in groups of 6, but no news on any match play. My guess is that there will be no meaningful league matches, but hopefully some friendlies from August. Can’t wait to film some new cricket.....

Frankly, I am not overly fond of blocking for a draw.... but things are what they are, one supposes.

Know what you mean Ray, but sometimes if you're on the ropes than needs must. Also, its a different dynamic - the art of bowling second at a team going for a draw is lost on most modern club players. I used to love it!

'Cricket the winner'? Class batting from Simon Carter, obviously far too good for this level, a real treat to watch until he made a simple mistake. Did Oxted deliberately set an 'odd field' with only two fielders behind square to keep Sanderstead chasing (a variation on the flighted filth bowler of days gone by)? For me, all in all, a fascinating 20 minutes of cricket. As ever, thanks to Sanderstead CC TV and to both teams and umpires etc.

@@maffyphomas4789 Ok Maffy 1. I only saw clips. As I understand Carter is just coming back from injury so would be out of touch. I thought I saw class in his innings but you know better. No probs. 2. You intimate it was not a great innings but a good enough player to sufficiently concern the fielding side to try keeping him off strike. 3. Did I suggest there was a 'filth' bowler? If so which one was he - I certainly did not single one out? Please read my comments carefully.

I never really noticed until watching this game how far of a drop in Quality it is between your 1st XI to your 2nd XI's in your league. Oxteds 2nd XI's bowling line-up is rubbish and their fielding was absolutely appalling.

I'm a firm believer that the keeper leads in fielding, in this case it's true. He looked like he didn't want to be there haha.
