I'm glad you mentioned Alice Lee and Bodhana Sivanandan. Both of them are insanely strong. I have enjoyed tracking their progress for the past few years. Can't wait for them to reach the 2500+ mark.

I'm not seeing women chess youtubers promote the women's candidates. I have a feeling that because there are no Americans, no Western Europeans, there is little publicity but if we look deeper, even the chessbase India channel has little to say about it( there are 2 Indian women playing). Chessbase India does however have no problem showing a one hour video with Gotham.... so whilst we all love watching Sagar, I think we should look deeper and maybe say wtf.... If Alice was playing, I think you guys would be spending a lot more time on it but it is just a bunch of foreigners!

jesse is the only one old enough to be able to speak the truth. until women are 2700s like Judit was, they are objectively second rate players who can't differentiate themselves from men who wouldnt get attention except as a court jester similar to Hans.

Regarding why some women's sports get popular and others don't... It's all in the marketing and presentation. I'm not saying this is a good thing, but there's a reason women's tennis and volleyball are more lucrative than men's tennis and volleyball (and figure skating, etc.). And there's a reason nobody cares about women's basketball and why women's football doesn't even exist. If we want to watch supreme athletic skill, we'll watch the men, so - again I'm not saying this is a good thing - fanservice is pretty much a necessary prerequisite for lucrative women's sports.

So Serena Williams is one of the most popular players of all-time because of...her looks? 🤔

@@ChessDojo I’d say skill matters within the league but not always across leagues. Sports magazines have long been criticized for over-focusing on female players’ appearance and fashion choices. Isn’t this indicative of the underlying financial incentives? I’m sure my comrade David would agree. Once more, I’m not saying this is a good thing. It’s just my observation. A male D1 tennis player could crush Serena Williams

@@ChessDojo Don’t shoot the messenger! I support women’s sports. Girls need healthy and active role models. They need to have people they can identify with and root for, and know their activities are worthwhile and taken seriously. The fact all this idealism isn’t supported by financial reality is just something we have to recognize and overcome. Im no friend of capitalism.

"I support women's sports! I just don't think anyone cares about them unless the women are good looking" There's tons of female sports stars that are celebrated for their skills. Your point just seems to demean for no reason. But yes it's "just an observation" 😂

@@ChessDojo I think the bummer is that whenever you talk about women's chess, it's mostly about these existential questions and very little about the chess or the players themselves.

@fallingmasonry well I think we expressed in this video why the women's FIDE cycle doesn't inspire us. We show great interest in certain talents like Polgar, Hou Yifan, the young stars we mentioned in the video, and many other female players, but it would be hard to feign interest for another FIDE cycle
