Live at KUOW studios in Seattle, WA. Jan 2015
[The reason it is spliced in the middle is because a child in the studio audience yelled at that point and the studio cut it out before they broadcast it on the air. This video is as I received it from the studio.]

So much boogie boogie sounds unmusical and messy. This is how it's done. Pretty rare. Feel and accents on the 2 and 4 in the LH are a big part of the groove this guy has just right. Overall musicality is extraordinarily good too.

Beautiful version. I love when "music comes first" and being musical and expressive comes before "being true to the original sheet music". So many versions on youtube but a very few hit the right non-mechanical feel at the intro, which he did. Very good job.

"The original sheet music" never captures the original - you can always find loads of big errors or simplifications in sheet music. If you are trying to play note-for-note the original, you are just a machine operator.

That performance actually bought tears to my eyes. It was just so mind blowing. I wish I could play like that but I know how hard it is and this guy has really got a talent. I should say then, that they're obviously tears of joy (-or something.) Happy ones I think (?) Or maybe that guys playing completely dismantled my psyche and now I will be a musical wreck for ever. Whilst I argue it out with myself though, I listen to it again at full volume !!!

An entire generation of the war years, all encapsulated in a single song. In the mid 1970's I and my date went to a ballroom dancing spot just to watch and most of the dancers were well into their mid 50's or so, many of them married, but still we watched in amazement as they went through the various dances and danced up a storm.

Hey Arthur! I have experience with music and instuments and I can really not belive this! For your age this would be impossible for "normal" people. The bass lines 3:50 got to be atleast 5 years of everyday practice. And don't mention the chord line at 4:10, atleast 10 more years of everyday piano practice and all of this without constantly looking. You look like you are in your early 30s but you play way to good for this... You have a really impressive brain and nerves, keep it up and take care of your talent! - Cheers from Sweden

Yes the studio edited the footage before they gave it to me. There was a kid in the front row and I think he yelled or screamed so they cut that second out of the recording before broadcasting. It sucks though, I would have rather had the screaming left in and the music uninterrupted.

How does one start their way to playing like this?
@chpnlzt
@chpnlzt 8 лет назад
BUY OR RENT A PIANO, OR AT LEAST A GOOD KEYBOARD WITH ACTION, OR WEIGHTED KEYS THAT FEELS AND WORKS LIKE A REAL PIANO, 500 - 1,000 BUCKS TO GET A DECENT KEYBOARD, AND THEN START PLAYING ALONG WITH WITH TV, RADIO, RECORDS AND CD's - BUT FIRST WATCH SOME VIDEOS ON THE BASICS LIKE TRIADS AND SIMPLE CHORDS, AND AT LEAST START WORKING ON YOUR SCALES EVERY DAY SO YOU CAN FIGURE OUT WHAT KEY THE SONGS ARE IN, FROM THE CD's ETC. YOU HAVE TO SPEND A FEW DAYS LEARNING WHAT SCALES ARE SO YOU CAN IDENTIFY WHAT KEY THE SONGS ARE IN THAT YOU ARE PLAYING ALONG TO.......THEN IF YOU ENJOY THAT, MAYBE YOU WILL LOVE IT ENOUGH TO LEARN THE LANGUAGE OF READING AND WRITING MUSIC, WHICH SHOULD ONLY TAKE THE REST OF YOUR LIFE TO PERFECT !!! OH, AND THE MOST IMPORTANT PART, ASK GOD FOR THE GIFT OF MUSIC, AND THERE IS A GOOD POSSIBILITY HE WILL GIVE YOU SUCH A GIFT, THAT YOU ARE ALREADY ASKING ABOUT.......IF YOU FEEL HE HAS ALREADY GIVEN YOU SUCH A GIFT, THANK HIM AND GET TO WORK, GOD BE WITH YOU IN EVERY NOTE !!!
