This is one of my absolute favorite streamer patterns. They are a pretty quick pattern, and absolutely wreck fish. This particular color combo is one of my favorites. I'm not sure if fish take it as a baitfish, crayfish, or they just see a blur of movement and instinct kicks in.
This fly is a staple Kelly Galloup pattern, and is worthy if being in every streamer angler's box. This tutorial isn't meant to be an exact replica of how Kelly ties them, but to show you how I tie them specifically for our local smallmouth fisheries.
Typically, I downsize hooks and run the MFC 7050 and 7052 for trout. You don't need the heft and hook gap of the B10S hook though I know many that use it.
I fish this pattern on a floating line when the water is really clear and on a sink tip when I want to get down a little deeper.
