Cover (and general) illustrator/designer, here... Yep, is a nice cover... About the book, that's what I call building anticipation... But I think is a win-win to do so. Also, that seems to be actual "rose gold", nice touch.
I love love the way you break down the marketing choices your publisher made and how you were able to use them to your advantage in revision. Also, your setup on this video is amazing -- I initially thought you had a new camera, but now I think it might just be really well-thought out color composition?! Amazing!
I did that with my cover, too! My protagonist is a wizard who uses a rod, which I never describe. When I got my cover, it had a picture of the protagonist with this cool rod with a crystal in the end. It was so awesome, it had to get in there.
2020? Weird to see that that year is coming so soon. I'll be a freshman in college by then, omg. That will give me plenty of time to read your first book when I get around to buying it. :) The cover is so beautiful!!
Wow, I am loving that book cover! Well done Alexa! I wanted to say that I honestly adore watching your videos. They're informative, they're fun and I love how you radiate such an honest and passionate personality. Keep up the amazing work and I very much look forward to future videos!
Wow Alexa!! That cover is gorgeous!! I could almost reach in and grab it feels like. I'm so excited for you!! Congrats!! Thank you for sharing and I look forward to more info on this beautiful book as the date draws nearer for your book baby to be born!!
The cover is gorgeous! I absolutely love it! The "my hands-off" nature of traditional publishing is what is pushing me towards self-Publishing. But I haven't decided and won't until my book is done. Your cover is stunning and absolutely perfect. But I've seen some awful covers and that scares me.
that cover is so gorgeous omggg!!! i don't read romance but i'm still super excited for you and wish you the best with this book!! ♥ even tho it's still a while away hahaha
Epic cover. I really liked brightly burning it was long but it was worth every minute I spent listing to it. I listen to audible only cause I’m so busy so I listen to books during work. When I listened to brightly burning I freaked out some many times I will say I guessed a few parts but that’s the best kind of story. I can’t wait for the stars we steal the moment I heard that name I wanted to listen to it. Is there going two be a second of brightly burning.
I've been bingeing your videos.... I love the information you give and that we have a lot in common writing wise. I know you don't have a lot of control of the cover, but do they let you see the cover drafts?
I saw a pretty final draft of the cover in this case--I didn't have any issues with it, so that was basically it! Some authors get to see earlier drafts and give feedback. It varies!
I am excited to read this book, The Bachelor and The Bachelorette are really the only reality shows I have seen any of. I especially love the Ashley Hebert season of The Bachelorette. Could be wrong but I think she is one of only very few couples that is still with the person she met on the show and chose. I actually started a Yugioh/Phineas and Ferb fic of the Bachelor but it didn't get very far. Also I watch anime dub so when this book comes out based on the date you told us, Winter 2020 anime will be starting which is exciting for me. (Sorry for long comment.) So yeah looking forward to it.
Very nice! The cover would get my attention in a store. Question though, as you said earlier, your contract was for a two book deal and since The Stars We Steal releases in over a year-will you be starting another project and how would that work with your current contract?(generally speaking, not inquiring specifics regarding your contract)
Alexa Donne Wonderful! It’s a lot of fun watching you through this process. You’re doing all beginning writers a real justice by sharing. I’m about 70% through Brightly Burning. Honestly, I didn’t expect to like it (I don’t regularly read YA) BUT to your credit, I keep leaning over for my IPad at night because I want to know what happens next...says a lot about your craft 😉.
Have you ever made a video on just 'why' it takes so long to get a book out? I looked but I didn't see one. Two years seems to be around the usual, is that right?
I don't read sci-fi or fantasy (I'm a slut for fiction that can just plop right into my current reality), but I think this cover has me NEEDING to read it!
One of the things I would be nervous about when I go to publish traditionally is having a cover that does nothibg for the book. Scares me actually. I've seen it happen and I've even read books where the cover did not even remotely match the content.
I consider my books "sci-fi for people who don't like sci-fi"--they are SUPER LIGHT sci-fi, as that's what I enjoy reading, as well. The sci-fi is a setting but not overwhelming. Hopefully you'll give it a shot :)
