I'm not done watching but had to stop and say I love that your editor asked about your character's hair texture. That's great cultural sensitivity. Her hair looks really good, and the cover is amazing! Congrats!
Every time I see a black girl on a book cover my small heart grows three sizes! Love the cover and I can't wait to see the metallic bits on the final copy.
I love these kind of videos! Learning the behind the scenes and how the cover ends it it's final version. I can't wait to see the metallic details on the cover!
Ahhhhhh!!! I'm jumping here on the other side of the screen 🤣 This cover is so beautiful!!! And her hair is freaking gorgeous, serious hair goals haha, I can't wait to add this book to my collection. Congrats again Liselle, so happy for you!! 🥰💕
Liselle! I feel like I squealed through most of this hahaha!! So excited!! And such a good tip about sizing and social media platforms!! I need to get better at that lol! Your cover is just so stunning! I know I'm broken record, but it's so BEAUTIFUL!!! And I love that you did the video reveal! It gave it that extra pop! I pre-ordered the book as soon as I saw your reveal lol, but I just realized I'm going to be in Toronto on release day! I know covid may prevent us from meeting in person, but I fully plan on going to the bookstore and getting my very own hard copy!!! I can't wait!!
I could listen to this broken record all day 🤣 I’m also very excited. And that’s amazing! I’m planning to spend my debut month in TO signing stuff in stores etc. And hopefully the conditions will be right for us to meet up 🤞🏾 I’m still holding out hope
Ahhh!!! Your cover, your trailer, so incredible! I am so excited to read your book, June can't come soon enough 😬 It's so interesting to hear the BTS of a book cover reveal with traditional publishing. Thank you for sharing!
Congrats, Liselle! What a beautiful cover. I’m in the process of working with my press on the cover of my debut full-length poetry collection, so it’s so helpful and interesting to hear how other people navigated the process. ✨✨✨
That is a BEAUTIFUL cover. This reminds me a bit of "Children of Blood and Bone". I would buy it based on the cover alone and I'm not even an avid fantasy reader xD
Congrats!!! I know at this point an illustrated cover is kind of the go-to for YA. Did you have any preliminary input over what type of cover you would get? For example if you really wanted illustrated and they ended up giving you something that was just like big text and a sword, or vice versa. That seems like a big thing to try to change after the fact.
In early stages I sent over my editor a Pinterest board of covers I liked, but we were also both interested in an illustrated cover from the get go. And so I knew pretty much from jump it was going to be illustrated and was on board with that. I suspect that if they were going to rapidly change gears away from that my editor probably wouldn’t have said something about it 🤔
