Been watching your channel a lot lately, and I think I'm going to take the plunge. This sounds really good.

Awesome! You've got this!

Great explanation. You decided me, and on the Pro package. I've got an historical romance trilogy I'm ready to publish, and fishing for contests is a time-consuming bit of business. I do wish that the issue of security would get mentioned. On the part of an unpublished author, it sounds like neurotic hand-wringing. But I was astonished how many of the Dummies books my husband and I have written have ended up on Russian sites that are openly selling them. Wiley Publishing used to have a coven of lawyers handling this, as best they could, but lately they've cut back on staff, and help isn't really there. I've spent years writing this backlog, I'm proud of it, and I'd hate to see the clean Vellum I submit with expensive cover to Book Award Pro end up being openly sold in Hungary. Have they any sort of security watch?

Drop support a line, but so far, I haven't had a single issue with security. The founder Jay Jacobson spends all his time on providing the safest and most secure platform for authors, but don't let my word stop you from asking them specific questions. Pro tip: When I get enough awards for one book, I'll downgrade the membership for that book to the free plan. Then, I'll put another book into the Pro Plan so I'm using my money wisely. Wait till you see the package they submit. It's no wonder I've won so much! I blame Book Award Pro. haha

Enjoyed the video. I have only used the free plan based on your last video with them and found a few review sites that I could use. They had free reviews but due to backlog, not sure when they would get to them. You can pay a small fee to bump your submission to the top of the list and I received my reviews in a timely manner and I have been pretty happy with the reviews. One of these days I want to try the Pro side. Also, Dale, so we can mention that we are nominated for an award once we have received acknowledgement for our submission? Do you have any books that have that listed that you might share with us so we can see how you did it? Thanks and enjoy your time off.
@selfpubwithdale

Absolutely, you can mention the nomination. It's a great way to build buzz and indirectly promote your book. Take a look at all my books about self-publishing when you visit Amazon (US). I have the awards listed there, so all you'd need to do is swipe the title and the award to Google it up. Sorry, I don't keep track of all the links. It gets to be a bit much to track, so I stopped holding onto links for these awards. And, I'm lazy. haha

@@selfpubwithdale Thanks Dale. Do you have any videos on your first books being put out? I would like to see that. I love the strategies and things you talk about now but - lets face it - you and others in your position have the followers to show how these strategies work when you have tons of folks willing following. Just curious how long it took you to get to a point where your followers could no longer comfortably fit into a large conference room. What strategies did you use to get to that point and beyond? Thanks.

@@jamesgrimm9121 That's not entirely true. When I started this channel, I wrote books about fitness, so there was VERY little appeal. Heck, I didn't even have videos worth watching. Don't let the vanity metric fool you. I might have 11k subs on one channel, and 95k on the other, that does NOT equate to book sales (though I wish it would). I appreciate how highly you think of me, but the reality is more in line with most authors out there. Building a profitable business starts with one action stacked on top of another action, then staying consistent with stacking those actions. Sadly, I've done over 1,500 videos between two channels, so it's kinda hard for me to pinpoint any one video. Take a browse through the backlog and you might find something you're looking for.

@@jamesgrimm9121 I appreciate the supportive words. I know I shouldn't downplay what I've built, because it's definitely a far cry from zero. When I was building my fitness brand, the main thing I focused on was - how do I get myself or my book in front of more people. I was a bull in a China shop, but when I found something that would work, I'd stick with it. You're going to find the vast majority of your success is going to come through trial and error. It's not sexy, but it's the only way for you to truly see what works for you and most importantly, what you can do consistently. A few people to check out on RU-vid: Nick Thacker, Derek Doepker (Bestseller Secrets), MK Williams, Draft2Digital, and Kobo Writing Life. The latter two channels have a variety of guests who share a lot of great tips. The first three are very grounded in what it takes to succeed as an author and it's not overhyped B.S. you'll get from some creators. I hope that helps. Of course, I'm not going to discourage you from checking out my backlog. hahaha It's deep! If you have a specific question, maybe I can create a video about it. Feel free to share if anything comes to mind.

This is very interesting. I'm a little confused. What is the difference between applying for a book award and getting nominated? Who does the nomination?
@selfpubwithdale
@selfpubwithdale 23 дня назад
They're the same thing. Applying is nominating. Wild, right?

Do they take educational books? I'm writing series for language acquisition and would like to get the guide, graded material, and other stuff in front of more people. 😬 Thank you so much, Dale!

Yes they do! They take all kinds of books. It's pretty wild the types of books they've worked with before. Contact support if you ever have questions, they're very responsive.

I just joined Book Award Pro at the Starter (Free) level. It looks like at this level, they only provide me with 4 awards options. To get more, I need to upgrade to the next level = Essential ($15/month). I don't think I need to have them submit to awards for me. I'm retired and have the time to do it. What do you think about using the free level of service?
@selfpubwithdale
@selfpubwithdale 9 дней назад
Give it a shot. Sure, you're limited, but it's still something, right?
@adventureswithtime

Are the awards offered by these organization limited? Do they award a 1st, 2nd, 3rd place, or do lots of the entries win awards? In other words, how selective are these awards?
@selfpubwithdale
@selfpubwithdale 9 дней назад
It varies based on the company. When you get a targeted option, BAP provides a link to the site so you can look through all the details.

A hiatus is a vacation with a little work. Haha I’m on a roll right now and though I should take the week off, I’m gonna push through on my eight-book project. But I’ll definitely be taking a break from RU-vid. It’ll give me a little time away so I can come back strong! Thanks so much for the kind words; it means the world to me.
