Book Ginny Or Movie Ginny?

They potrayed Hermione as what Ginny should've been. Ginny was strong, independent and confident which were traits movie Hermione had. Now, I know Hermione was so much more than a nerd but she had flaws which made her unique. Her flaws were frequently hidden from the movie audience.

Book Ginny was the best! Bonnie Wright could have pulled off Book Ginny so well! It's such a shame that the writers of the script didn't seem to want to develop her at all.

Anyone else upset about how much Remus and Tonks were cut from the movies? Their relationship is my favorite part/s of the final three books x

The director and producer were both big Harry and Hermione shippers so obviously they cast aside any important Ginny scenes. If it was upto them they would have had Harry and Hermione get together in the films. Its not Bonnies fault at all

People really are a little confused about Harry Ginny love story. 1. Harry didn't like her suddenly. Even in HBP, it was over a period of time that he developed the crush. It started in summer and they ended up together somewhere in April/May next year-the Quidditch season. That's exactly the time period crushes usually take to bloom in real life. 2.Ginny was anything but a mere FANGIRL. That was way back in her first and second year. After that, if people have read the novels, when they break up-she clearly states that though she never stopped liking him, she did move on and dated other people. She did forget him a bit. She was every bit sassy, confident, independent girl. 3.There is a simple reason why Harry-Hermione don't work. He never saw her as a companion-since they were 11. And same goes for her. I'd like to have one moment in the entire novel where Harry stated that he looked at Hermione in a romantic manner and please don't start with he called her beautiful. He was not blind and he realised she was pretty and that's a normal thing. 4.Harry doesn't know Ginny enough. Seriously? That's your point. He knew her as much as a person who develops a crush knows the other person. When yous tart dating, you start finding out things and then decide after years about marriage. Also it's clearly written int eh books, that Harry'd chat many a times to Ginny through Quidditch sessions and all. 5. You need to read every book and be blind to not know that from day 1, harry has felt Ginny is attractive and beautiful. He has discussed her red, flowing hair and skin in HBP but he has also cited them-to himself-in OoTP,GoF and even the first time he saw her properly. Again, neither of those times was he talking about her features and beauty the way he discussed Hermione's Yule Ball look. That was once. He praises Ginny's beauty time and again unconsciously. 6.Ginny not being strong enough. I'd like to draw attention to the fact that just because she was not with the Golden Trio 24x7, it doesn't automatically make her a stupid, free fangirl. She stood up for her friends(Luna time and again, even when her own brother called her names), family, herself, Harry again and again. Bat-Bogey Hex is not the only thing she did.Also stating that it wasn't reason enough to be in Slug Club. LOL what real reason did any student have? Having great uncles and parents? 7. Attractive, funny, popular-just because she is all that doesn't mean she is bad or doesn't have other shortcomings. She could be rude(Ron, HBP, when she was kissing Dean), temperamental, impulsive and angry as a bull. Harry says it himself that she was too popular for her own good and if he didn't act soon, someone'd propose her. But how is any of that WRONG? MOST IMPORTANTLY-SHE UNDERSTOOD HARRY AND HE UNDERSTOOD HER. The scene in HBP where Hermione goes screaming on harry for the nth time about getting detention due to the Potions' book and not thinking for a minute that Harry might need a break-Ginny barges in and asks Hermione to chill and let him be because at least he could save himself from an Unforgivable curse. That's the fucking crux of Harry-Ginny. They understand one another on a different level. Hermione would always be a good adviser and all but Ginny would always be a perfect fit for Harry. She'd get him and know how to deal with him and not throw him under the bus of issues all the time. She'd know how to deal with his anger and impulsiveness. SHE'D NOT TELL RIGHT AND WRONG LIKE A FREAKING RADIO BUT HELP HIM TAKE THE RIGHT DECISIONS WHEN THE TIME COMES. TILL THEN SHE'D JUST LET HIM BE, PEOPLE PLEASE READ THEIR BREAK UP SCENE AT LEAST AND THEN COMMENT ON HARRY/GINNY. THAT'S HINNY AT IT'S BEST AND WHY IT WORKS...FOR SO LONG....FOREVER AND EVER.

Even tho I wasn't a huge fan of Ginny and Harry's relationship book or movie I have to say the Ginny in the books was 100 times better. You should do a video on book and movie Dobby and why his death was so much more impacting in the book

Bonnie Wright could have easily played Ginny, given that in real life Bonnie has a similar personality. It's just that the screenwriter, Steve Kloves, had a plan since the very beginning to downgrade Ginny for the sake of promoting Hermione and shoving down Harry/Hermione propaganda. The notion that this was "just a mistake" is not true: he knew exactly what he was doing.

I loved Ginny in the book, I thought she was so cool, and then in the movie she was just so bland and dry and boring and it's just like WHY DID YOU RUIN GINNY, WRITERS?! Harry/Ginny was one of my favorite pairings in the books (after Lupin/Tonks and Ron/Hermione) but in the movie I really couldn't care less...

I never really thought about it until I saw this video, and yeah I agree, even the part in the book where Ginny tries to tell Harry it was her opening the chamber of secrets but was unable, none of ginny's most important roles in the books are in the films...

Philosopher's Stone Ginny is a lot of the things you described as movie Ginny (and the same is true to a lesser extent of the next couple books). I think you hit on the key point when you mentioned the lack of screen time. She basically didn't have time for character development, which was the key issue.

Bonnie Wright was a great portrayal of Ginny. It's the fault of the directors for not developing the character enough on the big screen.

I never read the books, but movie Ginny barely had any screen time. Her character was underdeveloped since i pretty much only know her as Ron's little sister and not so much as an individual. The movies made it clear from the start Ginny had a crush on Harry but we never really seen any interaction between the 2 sadly.

So many characters where ruined in the films, and scenes in general. What you say is 100% correct.

I personally fully support and love Harry and Ginny couple and I think Bonnie Wright is a beautiful and talented actress, but I agree it would’ve been nice for the writers to do more with the relationship like add more scenes that sell that these two deeply love each other, even if said scenes only appeared as bonus material.

Your comment about wishing the were two movies for each book from CoS onward is how I feel about many books transformed into movies...especially the LotR series, I would have been happy with two three-hour films for each book but, I don't see that happening. I think one of the hardest jobs I can imagine is being a screenwriter who is adapting a book for the movie...you have to decide what stays and what goes; what keeps the story line going forward and what is just fluff. Keep up the good works.

In the movie when she's trying to feed a pie to Harry, she's like " Don t you trust me" and then feeds the pie nicely to Harry, Book Ginny would say "Don t you trust me" and then continue to shove the pie all over his face, leaving Harry a mess, laughing her head off. By the way this isn't mine, I just read it somewhere and thought to was relevant and cute.

At the beginning of the Chamber of Secrets when Ginny stood up to Malfoy, I was like "There's the Ginny we know and love." And then nothing. Ginny was amazing in the books, but I didn't like her in the movies.

I just love how despite not being as much in the forefront as the other characters, book Ginny still managed to develop and showed her worth (impressed Slughorn with her hexes, and he only picks out the best in the crowd) and was kickass enough to leave such an impression on readers. I didn't realise just how lacking her representation was until about the third film or so.

I wish that they did a tv series versus movie. Glad we got something though. Without the movies I would've never gotten into the series.

I think it was the fact that the films left out so much than was needed in the books that it made Ginny character not developed enough.

We have nothing as a Film Ginny, there is a book Ginny and who the hell are you Ginny.

Book Ginny is Harry's equal. They're perfect for each other. I loved where she told Harry that Hermione had advised her to relax and be her natural self and if it was meant to be, he would come around. Hermione did the same thing to deal with her jealousy when Ron was dating Lavender Brown. People say Rowling can't write romance but I thought this important and subtley played out relationship lesson was brilliant. All this happened over time through Harry's internal dialogue so readers could experience the growing admiration he was feeling for this person he was becoming more aware of who had been there all along. This arc was ruined in the films by not giving Ginny a meaningful role/interactions with Harry and introducing the unnecessary attraction between Harry and Hermione that didn't exist in the books because he already had feelings for Ginny. All the did (aside from distracting from the plot and making Ron look like a whiny third wheel) was to make it look like Harry's feelings for Ginny didn't go that deep. Poor film Ginny. They may as well have written 'consolation prize' on her forehead. Also, by marrying Ginny, Harry officially joined the Weasley clan (and Hermione too, meaning the three friends were now members of the same family). It closed the loop on his most significant psychological flaw and was the perfect outcome for an orphan who had grown up deprived of love and familial care. The warm Weasley family home - the exact opposite of his lived experience - was now his home too.

I agree that each movie from the Chamber of Secrets should've had part 1 and 2.

I liked Ginny's character in the books allot, even when she was shown as a shy girl early on, Ron was quick to point out how much that behaviour was out of character for her. One of my favourite Ginny scenes was the one where they share chocolate in the library, it had shown us how much she had grown up. I'd say not even the books did a great job showing her true character, in many ways Luna was given more focus than her, but JK left little tidbits in along the way to show us she was a feisty, strong and mischievous female.

Ginny Weasley is my favourite female character in Harry Potter How her character is in the movies is just disappointing she was one million times better in the books.

Book and Movie Ginny were two different characters with the same name. I believe that J.K Rowling messed up the relationship between Ginny and Harry (movie and book) because she started their relationship late which made it seem random and fake to many people. If Harry had started liking Ginny earlier I feel it would have set things in stone and more believable.

I've never read the Harry Potter books, but still even just watching this video made me very upset about the changes they made to the story and the characters... I've seen so many wonderful books and wonderful characters from books be distorted (in one case, entirely beyond recognition) when they're adapted by someone into a movie or TV series... My favorite book series and my favorite character was completely destroyed in this manner - both by the movies many years ago, and by the recent TV series which *completely* re-wrote the whole story and changed *everything* about the characters - so I can certainly empathize with anyone who's hurting after seeing a story and characters they loved be wrongly changed in any adaptation... It's really hard.

Why Harry likes Ginny in the books- She's kind, sassy, funny, brave, fierce, beautiful, and an excellent Quidditch player, a great friend of him who can always comfort him and make him open up. The time spent with her is like 'sunlit days' 'stolen hours of someone else's life ' 'better than Firewhisky' AND she is his LAST THOUGHT before dying. Book Ginny was great but this review of movie Ginny was a bit harsh. As the boys who played Fred and George said, "If they included everything from the books in the movie, they'd still be filming them." I think they show a more condensed version. She is brave and it wasn't as harsh as you said here.

If every potter film other than the first had a part 1 and part 2, the child actors would've been 30 by the time they got to filming Deathy Hallows part 2, and Snape and Dumbledore would've needed a second recasting due to Rickman's death and Gambon's memory issues.

I think they should just remake the movie series.. give Harry Potter some justice this time
