Lovely haul. My goodness, I have a lot to catch up with you here. Life has been so busy. The true story Prometheus mentioned in his haul looks like it would be interesting. Looking forward to filling my gaps. Lol

I haven’t read any Nathaniel Philbrick books but I’m gonna look for them. I’m taking a box of movies and books to McKay’s tomorrow. I don’t need more books but I want more books. I got to go downtown. Our probate lawyer for my dad’s estate needs to talk to me. So I’m gonna run by McKay’s on my way out. I dread it but it’s got to be done. The Jane sure book is beautiful.

My son has read Mayflower by Philbrick and I got about half way before moving on. I saw the dvd, I didn't want to read the book. LOL The two that I have read have been excellent. I'm sorry you have to go see the probate lawyer. I hope it's painless. 💗 Great job on having boxes ready for McKay's. 👍

That’s a beautiful edition of Jane Eyre. I saw on GR that you have Chaos by Tom O’Neill on your TBR shelf. I just started it last night. Miracle of miracles, I found it online.

In one of my videos, I think it was my May wrap up? I dnf'd Chaos and The Darkest Child. You might like Chaos though. I try not to tell people not to read a book just because I didn't like it, but will give my Christian perspective of why I didn't like a book. I had a video reviewing both of the dnf'd books and threw Chaos, but I cannot find the video. I might have accidentally deleted it. I hope you didn't have to pay for it.

I saw the new Annie Jacobsen book when I was researching her writings yesterday, and considered reading that one first. But I really like to start with the first book and watch the progression of the authors skills as I work through their writings. So, undecided, but the nuclear war book is timely and her first book, not so much. The VietNam book also looks like something I'd like to read. 50,000+ American young men of my generation died in that war and I've been distressed by it ever since. I remember the horror of young men facing conscription.

I'd be interested in hearing if you notice a difference in her writing. After reading three of her books, I couldn't tell the difference to which one was older or newer. She does an amazing job in the books I've read. One of my uncles was a huey pilot and rescued soldiers from Vietnam. That whole conflict is hinky. All young men must sign up for the draft when they turn 18. But the mandatory draft being discussed right now really irks me, because we have no business in ukraine. Another uncle, one of my dad's brothers, was drawn twice in the draft lottery. But both times, while he was on the bus, he was removed by men in black. No explanations, just that he wasn't supposed to be on the bus, or that he was on the "wrong bus" and escorted off. Super creepy. My dad didn't pass physical. Color blindness, I think. What makes me so angry is the horrific treatment they received when they came back home! Here we have young men forced to fight for the corrupt gov and then come home to mistreatment. Awful and unjustified.

Hill 488 sounds interesting. I need to read more Vietnam books.

I'm with you. I need to read more books about Vietnam. I found out fairly recently that one of my uncles rescued soldiers in Vietnam. I have a book about helicopter combat in Vietname called 19 Minutes to Live. I hope to read it this year for Historathon. But maybe Hill 488 too if Prometheus isn't reading it. =)

Hi, hello and interesting picks! Trying to remember if I've ever read a story based completely in Vietnam, but the only thing that comes to mind was from Richard Marcinko's biography from when he got sent there. He ended up going on to found SEAL Team 6. The ignoramus in me always thought Bunker Hill was in England lol I blame my southern public education for that! I have about 40 pages left in the USS Jeannette book and have no idea what to read next. Leaning towards something short and exciting, but I'll probably just end up with a safe choice and re-read another Reacher. The only book I have a hold on at the library is the new Stephen King, You Like It Darker, and as of right now I'm number 72 in line with about 5 weeks to go And I LOVE a decorative book issue. I've been collecting the new editions of Tolkien's works (LOTR, Silmarillion, The Hobbit and The Fall of Numenor) when they come out and while I'll probably never actually read the hardcover it's still nice to have and look at Thanks for sharing, take care and have a good one!

I don't think I know about Richard Marcinko. Yes! Blame the public education. LOL I am so grateful I was able to homeschool Prometheus, because I learned so much more. A David McCullough book I read mentioned a college graduate telling him she hadn't realized the thirteen colonies were on the eastern seaboard. I finished a book the other day and it has me on a hunt for similar books. No hurry to decide what to read next while you're finishing a book. =) One of my cousins was a SEAL. He's retired now, so I can actually talk about him now. He was out of Coronado. The team that found Hussein's WMD that the media reported and now deny. Some books need to be collected in pretty covers and adored. LOL Hope you have a great day!

Yeah I had a phase waay back when I was just a lowly E-4 reading up on some of the bigger names in "recent" military history. Richard Marcinko's story is quite the ride, 20 years ago he would've been called the ultimate alpha male but reading it nowadays you'd think he was just a jerk. Funny how time changes opinions! Another one I read was Inside Delta Force by Eric Haney which was a lot more... pleasant of a read. Not as much grandstanding and chest bumping as Marcinko's story. He was one of the original members of Delta Force. Two totally contrasting personalities but still interesting stories on how these elite forces started from nothing and built themselves into what they are today
