Book Launch in Manila "Human Security and Empowerment in Asia: Beyond the Pandemic" [JICA] 

The first two years of the COVID-19 pandemic have significantly impeded global development and challenged our understanding of human security. As we tackled various interrelated vulnerabilities, reflecting and reassessing the strategies for ensuring human security became more crucial.
In light of the increasing complexity of security challenges we face, the JICA Ogata Sadako Research Institute for Peace and Development has conducted the research project "Human Security and the Practices of Empowerment in East Asia" since 2019, which culminated in the recent publication of a book titled, “Human Security and Empowerment in Asia: Beyond the Pandemic.”

On Feb 23, 2024, JICA Ogata Research Institute for Peace and Development and the Department of Political Science of the Ateneo de Manila University co-hosted a book launch seminar to present the key features of the book and discussed lessons from human security issues such as health, gender, aging, and forced displacement intensified by the COVID-19 pandemic. The seminar included greetings from Dr. Diane Mendoza (Ateneo Political Science Department) and remarks from Prof. Yoichi Mine (JICA Ogata Research Institute). Prof. Mely Caballero Anthony of RSIS, Nanyang University, introduced the book and its key findings, followed by the presentations from the four case study contributors and feedback from Maria Ela Atienza (University of the Philippines) and Mary Ann Bakisan (JICA Philippines).
