I actually did this with an influencer. She lost her son and my book is about the loss of my son and how to rebuild your life and find purpose. I wrote a personal note in my book and signed it. I sent it out and we will see. Haven't seen anything yet but my thought is if I do this and it touches one of them, maybe it will help the sale of my own book. I believe it will always come back to you one day.
Phew! Haven’t done the “do nots” - only because I’m pretty timid in approaching influencers. One thing I’m onto is carefully studying each influencer I’m interested in. I discovered one influencer copped to having anxiety before every podcast. Knowing this I made sure to compliment her delivery after every podcast. She soon entered into a dialogue with me😊
I have found its the relationships that pay dividends. I have been successful in getting contributors for my book stories this way. I will also say that to get an 'A' lister - well lets just say I'm still working on those relationships. All the best.

Oh no! I did the very thing I shouldn’t do with my number one influencer…😮 I hope I haven’t blown it. When you went down the list of what not to do, my jaw dropped. I had done every one. Luckily the damage is isolated to only one person. I have learned my lesson. Thank you!
I'm finding out that these book "influencers" want money to promote or review my books, so they don't mind me asking them straight out. Probably because they get so many requests to do book reviews, so they decided to start charging. These "book tubers" have a large number of subscribers and a lot of interactions going on in the comment sections of their videos. I just hired one guy, so we will see how it goes. I want to upload it to Amazon.
Hmmmm the influencers you are talking about sound more like Book-stagrammers or book promoters. The influencers I was really more talking about industry specific people who aren't specifically book promoters. They may still ask for a fee but in general these are people who have a community of people - like a podcast host or a blogger. They have an audience and while they may be asked to promote things they may be interested in content partnerships or other opportunities to connect and share your great book.
Good question. I know Shelley Buck had Kristen Bell and the CEO of Disney endorse her book. Tom Peters has been a big supporter of Carol Sanford's work. I feel like I'm missing some of the big stories but it's late on Sunday and I spent 20 hours recording my audiobook over the last 2.5 days :o
