(In regards to tip #2) I get similar messages on my LinkedIn, and most I don’t reply to because they sound too…sales-y. However, there was one that was written differently asking me to speak at a webinar. I said yes, and it was a lot of fun!!
Hello Julie, I had a real bad experience with another self publishing company. They weren't available to reply to calls or emails after they received all of your money meaning there was no additional help. To launch my book globally the pages had to be 26 to 27 pages(I'd asked during prepping the book but refused to answer the question directly)long. It's the way that they did business, answered questions or not that raised flags but by this time 95% of my money was already in their hands. I start to become depressed a little because to me it was the message in the book that was important&to me it needed to be share around the globe but it got halted&is only distributed by the company(children's book)I appreciate this video because I get to start over,this gives me another perspective on things I didn't so that I can move forward maybe not with the same book but I get to start over. When one door closes another opens right.. I have faith&belief in those words alone&that's my super power. Thank You

Thank you. This is really good. I appreciate your advice. I have listened to a few of your videos & have subscribed and this is the first one I have commented on. I normally don't comment on a lot of videos. When I did my TEDx. One thing I noticed was how the other people I was on stage with ignored people who made comments under their talks. They had some great speeches but when I tried to connect it seemed to be all about them. I was sad. When you talked about doing things for others & appreciating people, it reminded me of that. Then another thought came to mind. I have been so focused on writing writing my book, getting the correct title, figuring out how to market, doing all the research.... That I have forgotten the genuine human side. The thoughtful side. The side that thinks of others no matter if they can give or can't give. If they are well known or not known. I was thinking about who I was going to contact to endorse my book. How was I going to get them to endorse my book. I had listened to a video that talked about having a big enough list to check people off. Ugg. I was falling for bigger is better... More is better. This video reminded me to slow down. Still research ( I already have a few in mind) people. But get to know them not just for the ask but also from a place of alignment & a place of genuine humanity & caring. Whether they say no or yes. It isn't about that. It really is about getting to know each other. I want my personality communication book to influence people in a positive way. The people or person I want to endorse my book probably want to feel like they have influenced me in a positive way as well. Along with that, they want the same things I want. So again thank you for taking me out of my robot mindset. 🙏💕

Tip number 4 about sending something of value was really interesting. I never would have thought of sending a box of cookies or tea as a follow up or to add a personal touch.
It works like a charm for some situations! I do it selectively as it can get expensive ... but it's worth it for the relationships that you really want to cultivate or for those folks that you really want to thank!

I remember having first zoom meeting with you and what impressed me that you were NOT eager to get me as client unless you can help me. You offered my to submit my manuscript with your content editor and see what he or she had say and go from there. He gave me positive feedback and I got on board. Great content. I'm stunned this video doesn't have exponentially more views after nearly two years. Getting influencers to notice your book is like the holy grail of getting noticed as an author these days, so I find it odd that the zillions of aspiring authors out there aren't flocking towards videos like these in droves. Oh well, their loss! P.S. the #noboringbooks hashtag should be enshrined in the U.S. Constitution.

Super video, Julie! I've gotten a number of benefits from creators higher up on my genre food chain by simply doing for others, when possible. Back in the day, on Facebook and Twitter, I started out with no intentions of asking favors, but I'd LIKE their comments. Eventually, I felt braver and started commenting which led to conversations. Soon, they got to know me and we often became friends, I'm glad to say. I've also gotten work and favors that way too. I guess the best way is just to be a friend first and foremost.

Hmmm we do research for each book to find the right influencers. If you want a generic approach you can look at influencers like Book Thinkers on Instagram and RU-vid.

Great video and super tips that we can apply. How do you know when to draw the line between gently following up after your request has been sent and being a stalker? :)
That sure is the question isn't it. I would say that you need to try to add value and connect vs stalk and pester. In other words - be a presence in their life via social media or whatever is their place where they share ... and support them. Eventually they will take notice and open the door for you ... or not ... but at least then there's no weirdness.

Thanks for the tips Julie! Always valuable for sure. It's pretty easy for me to talk to other influencers and establish rapport. However, I've not been as fortunate with some of the media. Some of whom I knew previously and seemed to have connections with. I know that everyone is busy, so I try not to hover or be pesty. Trying to determine how I should re-engage in order to reconnect.
