Support me on Patreon: www.patreon.com/ComradeHakim Twitter: @YaBoiHakim Hey there! This time I'm trying chapter-headers in the video, so hopefully that'll help your time-stamping purposes. If you like this then I'll do it for future videos (and probably a select few previous ones as well). I'd love your feedback. There's a lot of talk about the USSR, its economy, form of elections and workers' power amongst other things. Sadly, a lot is said without the necessary information backing it up so, this is a video hoping to fill that gap with some book recommendations. All of these books can be found for free on libgen or a quick google search. I hope you like it! *Timestamps:* 00:35 Alec Nove: An Economic History of the USSR 01:36 Albert Szymanski: Human Rights In The Soviet Union 02:49 Albert Szymanski: Is The Red Flag Flying? 03:44 Pat Sloan: Soviet Democracy 04:24 The Industrialization Of Soviet Russia 05:00 Webb: Soviet Communism, A New Civilization? 06:00 Jonathan Aurthur: Socialism In The Soviet Union 06:39 The Soviet Form of Popular Government 07:38 Mick Costello: Workers' Participation In The Soviet Union 08:22 Sayers and Kahn: The Great Consipracy Against Russia, Holme: The Soviets and Ourselves, Two Commonwealths

I advice you "Socialism Betrayed: Behind the Collapse of the Soviet Union" by Roger Keeran and Thomas Kenny that talks deeply about the causes of the Fall with a lot of docimentation, they also decipher the presence, since the fall of the 1920s, of a social-democratic reformist current of thought in Communist Soviet Party.

I would recommend "The Restauration of Capitalism in the USSR" by Willi Dickhut. It is absolutely critical that we understand how socialism was betrayed after Stalin's death so that the bourgeois mode of thinking cannot infiltrate and destroy future socialist states. Mao of course also wrote a lot about the emergence of a new political elite, bureaucratic tendencies, and state capitalism, which sadly is the same fate China itself later suffered.

I love your vids, comrade! One tiny thing I wanted to point out for a long, long time. The word "Soviet" is an Americanism. I have no idea, where they got the "i" in the "Sovet" from, but in Russian the word "Sovet" is spelled just like that - "Sovet", as in "saw-VET", as in "got to see a veterinarian".
@loldelol34w56436
@loldelol34w56436 3 года назад
Because "e" in Russian is usually pronounced as "ye". On the same topic, "привет (privet)" is read as privyet.
@dorothydepth000
@dorothydepth000 3 года назад
@@loldelol34w56436 вы уверены? Nope, sorry, this is incorrect. K, Russian language lesson time. Privet is pronounced as priVET. "E" is only pronounced as "ye" if it's in the very beginning of the word - ель is pronounced YEL' - or if "e" is right after another vowel - приезд is pronounced as priYEZD - or if "e" is after the special softening letter "ь" or special hardening letter "ъ" - раздолье is pronounced razdoL'YE, подъезд is pronounced podYEZD. In ANY other case, as in "e" coming after a consonant, "e" is pronounced as "e" in vet, pet, get, let, etc, while also making this previous consonant soft (the thing that English speaking ppl for some reason cannot pronounce at all, so I gave up on explaining that part a long time ago). So. Совет, привет, пакет, свет, декрет, котлета, революция, Ленин are all pronounced Sovet, privet, paket, svet, dekret, kotleta, revolutsiya, Lenin. So here you go. Sovet is Sovet. And Lenin is Lenin. Спасибо за внимание, товарищи. Пролетарии всех стран, соединяйтесь!

@@dorothydepth000 Wow, thank you so much for the lesson! Amazing stuff I would like to add that it's not an americanism, since plenty of languages do that, including my native tongue, which is portuguese. We call it "União Soviética" (Soviet Union). I always tought the reason behind it was the "ye" thing, but as you pointed out, I was very wrong!

@dorothydepth000 2 года назад
@@loldelol34w56436 yay, I'm glad you found this interesting! :D Ooh, I didn't know about the Portuguese language doing this as well. Curious! Thanks for the info!! Maybe some foreign "expert" somewhere had butchered the word once at the very beginning and everyone just started saying it like that. It got so pervasive that I hear my fellow Russian speaking people pronounce it with the "i" when they speak English (and then say it normally in Russian). That's how the anti-Sovet propaganda works: it twists a fact then repeats and repeats and repeats it until you accept this twisted version as the truth. /sigh We got a long way ahead of us. Just out of curiosity, could it be possible for you to make a video discussing/critiquing modern Chinese "Communism"? (If China could even be considered Communist at this day and age)

@Hussein lemme tell you buddy first of all Islam does not oppose oppression, we by the words of the Quran have to fight the people of the book until they pay the jizya and those who pay it are tolerated but must pay it with humiliation after defeat. Also just because Islam encourages charity does not mean it’s compatible with communism, Islam also supports private property rights, it is VERY incompatible with communism, especially Marxism Leninism, although it’s a bit open to other types of lighter socialism

Pls help me I argueming with my capitalistic friend for few days and I dont know what to say to : "Theres no inovation in socialisam, only in capitalisam,because in capitaliam theres competition and in socialism theres just the state" I mean, I could use"inovations in capitalism is just for competition, then monopoly and just profit, while in socialism inovations are for peoples good",but he is like no way
@TheRudePenguin

Tatjana Bojicic innovations come from the working people, and has come under every single mode of production since the beginning of human history.
@tatjanabojicic5525
@tatjanabojicic5525 4 года назад
@@TheRudePenguin Ok, but thats not the problem, the problem is that in his saying : theres more inovations like new cars and phones etc. in capitalism,because theres competition and money that draws you to do work and thats why russian drove lada for 50 years and Americans have devoleped dozens of new cars. In communism you just get payed whatever you do, or not and again theres no competition and something to draws you to do work
@TheRudePenguin
@TheRudePenguin 4 года назад
@@tatjanabojicic5525 money being the "motivator" to work or innovate is not a static concept. Humans have been innovating far longer than the existence of money and will still be innovating after the existence of money - recognition, a feeling of duty to the community, self-actualization being a few of them that you can see even today. People are drawn to money because the current material conditions of majority of global society requires money to live a decent life. It's a materialist reason, and not inherently a philosophical one as money only has power because we are conditioned to believe it does. Also, the USSR made great strides in innovation with space technology, beating the US on every space venture during the space race, minus the moon landing. Satellites were also developed by the Soviets. Point is, humans are inherently innovative because being innovative has ensured our survival and our place at the top of the food chain, with cooperation, rather than competition, being at the heart of it.

I hate to be this guy, but my family is Lithuanian. I spent many a year with my grandfather and grandmother, and have been repeatedly reminded throughout my life that, while the Soviets slightly improved life, any idea that the Soviets turned eastern Europe into a "workers state" is completely disprovable based on the simple fact that, after WW2, nearly all men who were given the choice (including my grandfather) chose to move to the west. How do you challenge the fact that the Soviets were required to seal their borders to limit "brain drain" while the west never suffered an equivalent reaction?
