Being a DDK player, I found his book a little difficult to follow. I wish the layout would have been more compact. I found myself page flipping back and forth to much. There was sections that I did find helpful. But over all I'm not sure I was ready for it. I enjoyed your review and felt you gave a accurate assessment.
lol no GoFundMe, was mostly a joke. I do want to write a book, one reason I read so many Go books so I can find what to cover and how I want to put it together. Probably won’t make a complete book for a year or two lol
I have the book and I think this is a fair review. Hey Triton, do you have any tips on the best way to digest and learn from books like the Yilun Yang one you mentioned?
I always try to read through the content at least once before any extra study and, after that, it depends on the book. For the Yilun Yang book I looked at the outline for the opening and would review games/pro games to see how it applies. If I am having a hard time remembering anything after that I read the book again and take notes. I find that taking notes can help you remember, but I think it should be done only after you have tried to absorb the info normally. Most of the time this works for me.
Thanks for making this review! What kyu level would you say the book is directed at? Do you think a longtime fan of Dwyrin who's familiar with his Basics series will get something new out of it, or does it tread a lot of the same ground as his videos?
I would say it is more geared towards DDK and maybe up to 8k. If you have seen all of his videos you will probably know the information, but if you wanted to have the more important aspects of his Opening Guide all gathered into one place that could be helpful.
Yeah that was the feeling for sure. He said he will be updating it eventually including adding more content, so maybe he will improve it overall now that he has gotten more feedback.
