Book Sales Rumors 

Asking the real questions here!

I'm gonna have to go with highly unlikely. A business has to make profits or it goes under. If 50% of their books only sold 12 copies or less they'd be losing thousands (if not millions) of dollars each year. A business can't stay afloat with those kinds of numbers. I'd take any "statistic" you hear with a very generous grain of salt, stats are ridiculously easy to manipulate. That "stat" could be coming from 4 first time authors (with one peg leg and a pet bird named polly) in an unpopular genre that usually has low sales (& they did no marketing at all) where only one did reasonably well because of their family & friends supporting them... and then they just conveniently leave out the best selling authors with millions of followers in a different & highly popular genre out, because that would show a different side of the story and they need sympathy votes to help the legal stuff go in their favor. And na-sayers will also grossly over exaggerate anything they get their hands on that can justify themselves and their way of doing things.

If you're writing a high fantasy novel that centers around fantasy Poland, for example, and this one agent has represented many books that take place in East Europe, they'd be a great fit for your novel!
