I really recommend the audiobook for Sleeping Giants by Sylvain Neuvel! It has a full cast and I loved their performances. The way it's written works well in audio format! And Happy Birthday Rob!!

I adore Flavia De Luce. She has a deliciously dark streak that I appreciate. Alan Bradley is a Canadian author, as well. I was so excited that the Calgary Reads book sale was back this year. They take donations, and then have a week long sale that fills and entire curling rink. Proceeds go to a literacy organization. So many good things there. I’ve seen people with little old lady pull carts for all their books (life goals).
In the Dream House is one of my absolute all time favourite books, it is genuinely a masterpiece, so excited that you're reading it!! and happy birthday Rob! 🎉
I adore the Falvia de Luce series. Definitely has cozy mystery vibes. And even though the main protagonist is young, it's not YA, per se. Here's hoping you like it.

The Themis Files are absolutely amazing! I listened to the audiobooks earlier this year and was blown away. The characters are super memorable and I loved it!

@@dylanashryver1872 I think the books are fundamentally really good and the story is super compelling. The audiobooks just gave the characters an extra boost of memorability.
I LOVED the Themis Files (Sleeping Giants) series. It's kind of Iron Giant / Pacific Rim, very military heavy, lots of perspectives, I really enjoyed it.
everyone needs to go to their local library book sale. I bought 17 books for 32 dollars at my last one, including 12 brand new books! Also, I think all the references to the name Ellery in your recent mystery books is a nod to Ellery Queen Magazine. Happiest Birthday wishes for Rob!

Happy Birthday Rob! There is a regular book sale similar to yours in my area every year but wow, your selection still looked a lot better than we get in NZ. I'm kind of glad though because I always buy too many books anyway and I'd probably be broke if there was that much selection
I JUST finished reading Small Favors recently and I loved it. Very "The Villiage" vibes. Very spooky creatures in the woods vibes. I would recommend it.

i had no idea that The Friends of the Library was an organization outside of the U.S.! The thought never crossed my mind ahahaha Edit: okay so the Friends of the Library sales at my local libraries are always in or around/outside the library building. so interesting that yours can be hosted at other locations
Our library here in upstate NY also does a friends of the library sale.. same thing: they take both donations and retired books off the shelves and put them up for sale for around $1 usually.. I love it!
I went to a Friends of the Library book sale, in April. I went a total of three times and ended up with about thirty books, mostly some really great, vintage fantasy books.
I saw another book that reminds me of Hide (haven’t read either) but it’s FantasticLand by Bockoven about all these people that get trapped in an amusement park & what happens inside!
There are several parts of in the Dream house that you will definitely want to read in hand rather than audio. At a minimum the choose your own adventure chapter.
Ooh every summer my town hosts a multi-day used book sale to raise money for a women’s scholarship charity. It’s starting next week and I am so excited
I just finished sweetness at the bottom of the pie and while I enjoyed the main character and her knowledge, you are correct, it was about 100 pages too long! I felt like I was reading it for months haha
Ahhh! Thank you for spotlighting your library book sale. My friend loves A Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie. Kindred and In the Dream House are absolutely amazing!! Hunting by Stars is soooo stressful. I reread The Marrow Thieves beforehand too. I'm also going on a big fantasy book journey. I read The Fifth Season at the year (didn't love it, sorry!). Then I read Daughter of the Moon Goddess because of you. Now I'm interested in Jade City and The Poppy War. I'm really passionate about this haul 🤣
My library’s sale is next weekend! I’m so excited 🥰 I really loved Sleeping Giants (highly recommend the audiobook!) but the second in the series didn’t work as well for me sadly.
Haunting by stars Im reading it right now and it's about boarding school and native Americans history ..... I pick it up from my library because I want to know more bout my ancestors... Its good book so far. Happy birthday rob!
I wish my country has done it as well but if they do mostly in my native language but also fan fact in June is Hebrew literally book month (it has week that turn to month in month in bookstore)
My local library system stopped doing library sales as they said it ‘cost too much to run’ instead they sell all the books for much more plus shipping through another book sale website.
I read IN THE DREAM HOUSE back in February and I read HER BODY AND OTHER PARTIES in 2019, both by Carmen Maria Machado. Some of my favorite books! Fantastic! I loved both of them!

My feelings for Small Favors are mixed. It's fine - I don't think it's a bad book at all and as a horror lover, you may love it more than I did. But I read it without reading the synopsis and already felt like we, as the readers, knew too much when the townspeople didn't. So, then it was kind of like, what's the point? But afterward, I read the synopsis and I was like, wow that really blows any mystery out of the water. I don't know. It was interesting and had creepy vibes for sure, though.
I've volunteered for my (previous) city's Friends of the Library before! We had a used bookstore and a giftshop that was actually *in* the library, which is where I worked. It was a lot of fun! I was the youngest volunteer by at least 30 years LMAO.
Omg yeah I love the checkout process every year. It's always a very elderly woman with commentary on every book I buy, and then another lady counting out the change-they're just the sweetest little duo.

I recently added Jade City to my TBR because it just seems to get such high praise. I typically enjoy fantasy when I read it but never want to commit to it lol. But Meg really sold it to me when she recently finished the series ☺️ so I'm excited to see you pick it up too!!
