Editor-in-chief of Commentary magazine attempts to answer the question he says he's been asked more often than any other during four decades in journalism: why are jews liberals? The event is at the Harvard Club.
It’s the expectation that they will vote according to the ideology they ‘supposedly’ are characterized by (Judaism), and not in accordance to their Group ethnic/cultural interests. Similar patterns can be found elsewhere. Why don’t more Mexican’s or Filipino’s vote in accordance with Catholic and therefore conservative values, as opposed to Group self interest?
Party doesn't really matter when you're dealing with a people whose allegiances are divided. I find it interesting that I can criticize the U.S. in front of an American Jew and they may vehemently disagree but never take it personally or view it as an affront to their identity as an American. But criticize Israel in front of an American Jew who has never even lived in Israel and see what happens.
