This video feels like the climax of your book writing series where its a huge turning point and it feels like there'll never be hope again bUT THEN THE FALLING ACTION HAPPENS AND the character rises up from the ashes and reigns victorious! WE BELIEVE IN YOU CHRISTINE JUST KEEP SWIMMING :-))

I totally get what you mean about the music. I hate writing in silence, but music with lyrics isn't my favorite thing to listen to, or I feel like two separate sets of words are fighting for my attention. I love listening to scores or cool symphony music while I write.

Aww, we've all been through those writing frustrations. It took me two years to "finish" my first novel. And now, years later, I realize that there are even more things I want to change! Sometimes it also helps to put it down and take a break--don't let yourself feel guilty for not writing--and then come back to it after a couple days. Just hang in there!

I did nanowrimo for the first time ever this year and I won it!! I'm super excited!! I have about 16K before nano, and now my novel is 66K long. I think it needs another 50K still, so I am just going to continue writing at a nano pace until im done. I can't wait to read your book when you are done Christine! I've been following you one RU-vid for years and I just know your books is going to be fantastic.

I completely failed Nanowrimo! Like on day 3 or something. I was waaaay more productive in October when there was no pressure or goals haha I think it's amazing how you keep moving forward with your book Christine! You've come so far since the beginning of this series and I'm so glad that you decided to share your journey with us!

Oh man, I failed ALL the Nanowrimo. To be a teensy bit fair, I wasn't quite prepared yet. I just don't have enough content. AHH the distractions!!! The family stuff! I GET IT!!!! It's like you want to glue the door shut to the frame so nobody can come in and bug you! *stresses intensely*

Okay I think you've motivated me to start writing my novel or work on old ones I've abandoned. Best of luck with your book Christine! And don't worry too much about not reaching your goal, I think the important thing is that you enjoy the writing process and make the book the best you can make it and that will take time.

Being back in my parents' house makes me absolutely, completely unproductive. IDK what it is about being there, but I immediately get into a mood where I can't do anything

These videos are slowly becoming my favorite because I feel like I'm going to be reading your book one day like "I remember when this was being created in FEBERWRIMO" and all the little things that have happened and these videos just make me so excited in general!!!!

I find that I'm inspired/can concentrate better when I'm somewhere I haven't been in awhile. Especially if you're in Jersey rn, try a library quiet-zone, or a park bench (if the weather works) and take five minutes to ponder what you've said what you're trying to say, and how :)

every time I need to get in the mood to write, I watch these videos. Works like a charm every time.

I totally feel you with having to keep going back and literally rewrite the entire draft every time you get a new idea. It's definitely frustrating, but taking some time to just outline and brainstorm ideas (or eliminate some) helps a ton!

you should have a sign on your door that says something like "leave me alone, i'm writing", "do not disturb, except for emergency" or "unless the house is burning down, i don't wanna hear about it" so that your family will know not to interrupt the bookwriting!

I was going a little crazy in November while editing, and I found something that helped: writing a new novel! Your time may be limited, but even a one-day break spent writing something else might help you to feel ready to tackle the edits for your first novel.

I've been struggling to write my book for about four years, i finally finished it this summer. I had only three chapters left to write, when i decided that i wanted to be set in an A.U. So i finished my chapters, and i was going to edit everything either way, so i just added the A.U. elements. Fortunately, my A.U. was set in a city that exists in our world.

You can do it Christine!! Sometimes a step back will happen before two steps forwards! But you got this!

my suggestion is what I do, I sit with my advisor (but it could be anyone a friend, etc) and go through it out loud page by page, its the most successful editing process in my opinion

I can totally relate to the "finding a good place to write" thing - I'm home from university and I can't even remember how I managed to be productive in my parents house. Story board is at a stand-still.

Ahhhhh I have "go the distance" tattooed on my foot!! That is my absolute favorite Disney song and I agree that it is definitely under rated!

I love to read. I love to write. I hope to publish my own book within the next year. Please, enjoy my writing tips: Write a list of things you might want to change about it. A detailed list. This could include examples, passages of the book, notes about places where you might need to change things and simple bullet points. Accumulate this list throughout your writing. Finish a draft. THEN go through and change things if you want to. This gives you a chance to mull over the ideas and fit them into the broader scheme of things, instead of making rash decisions and possibly throwing off your entire plot line. Always save your drafts. Never delete things completely, you might want to recall them later and then 'whoops, where has that gone?' Love your characters. Really connect with them. All of them. Each character you introduce needs to have a purpose in this book and a reason for every thing that they do. Give them all small backstories. It's good if even if you don't describe them in the actual writing that you can picture them clearly in your minds eye. Even the smallest thing like the old man who buys a newspaper every day and asks protagonist #2 how they are should have small notes on them. Why is it that they have an Irish accent and a burn on the left side of their neck? Is it because their father hit him with a fire poker (Tessa Gray :D) when he was drunk, and this is why he always asks children how they are, to see if they're being abused? These small things really add depth to the universe of the story. (Plus, it gives great things to leak at the interviews when you're a famous author. Have proper inspiration for the story. Nothing is worse than quitting halfway through. Carry around a small paper journal, to record phrases that pop into your mind and notes on the appearance of someone who YOU SWEAR IS TAMMY'S MOTHER COME TO LIFE. Keep reading. Don't narrow your focus to just this book, because then other forms of literature (that often take the form of subconscious inspiration) will be cut out of your life. Hope that helped even just one aspiring author. :)

I didn't achieve my nanowrimo goal because I kept forgetting that I'm doing it but at least I started writing and got some scenes out😌 before I just had all these ideas and never wrote them down

I did bad on Nanowrimo too, but a tip maybe to get out of your head is to take the word count out of the picture. Just focus on the world you're writing in and just know that the word count is just a number. I'm not sure if that'll help but maybe try it? Good luck on your writing adventures! :)

Haha I have failed Nanowrimo! Twenty four thousand words in. Working and school has taken over the life and I could not keep up.

Nanowrimo has helped me so much on pushing myself to finish the second draft in my book but I still know that I have to make another draft and change so much but it's better than the first time where I had to change everything. But it's very frustrating and I'm always in a constant state of writers block!! But it's the last day and I have one more scene left and I'm going to finish, I have to finish, I have no other option. But we writers must press forward!!!

I'm pretty sure we have like, the SAME EXACT taste in music. Because I LOVE every single one of the songs that you mention in these videos.

I decided to try NaNoWriMo this year, and i didn't reach my goal but i did get some writing done , and it gave me the motivation to actually start writing. I hop the rest of your book writing goes well!!

READ "Story Fix" by Larry Brooks!! I'm a creative writing major, and this books has helped me more than most of my textbooks. It's written specifically for genre fiction novels. I'm not sure exactly what kind of issues you're having with your novel, but his advice digs really deep into issues that you may not have thought about before. I've gained so much insight from this book. It's great! I'm sure if you read it, you'd realize exactly what is making your word count so high, and how to trim it to the necessary structures (even if you think everything is crucial now).

The Hercules song!! I love it so much! XD Also, I can totally relate to the whole writing in circles thing. Just hang in there! Before you know it, you'll have the perfect draft!

I haven't been doing NaNoWriMo, but I did spend the entire month editing a 26 minute long documentary for collage. It's due tomorrow, so I understand what you're feeling. Been through that all month.

Maybe try the town library? They usually have sound proof rooms that you can use. Or maybe the library of a nearby community college?

I definitely failed NaNoWriMo's 50,000 word goal but I did meet my personal goal which was 25,000 words. That's the most I've ever written for one story. btw, I'm sooo excited about your book! Just watched all your writing updates today, and it really inspired me to keep writing my second draft/rewrite! (I mean, I didn't even manage 200 words, but it's more than I've written all week!) I am SO CLOSE to finishing it!!! ...And then I'll need to rewrite half of my scenes again because of characterisation issues, and work out if any more plot changes are needed, and fix the things I changed halfway through the draft, and do general edits... I feel your pain :'D WRITING IS SO FRUSTRATING!

Yet another great writing video, I can totally relate, as I do with every other writing video you release. Anyway I'm in the process of cutting down my manuscript from 246,00 words to at least 100,00. I have some advice for you, I went to a writing conference in NYC recently and I was told by an editor that it doesn't have to be 90,00 or in that range, at least for fantasy, it can go over that, but I know your genre is contemporary so it might be different for you. I'm able to go 25,00 words over 90,000 (approximately 500 pages or so) so that's about 100,00 words which means a lot of editing for me haha. What I did was I researched the Mortal Instruments City of Bones as one of my Comparable's and I'm using that as my guide, I believe it is 128,000 words which amounts to roughly 500 pages which isn't bad. As far as the music goes I listen to music like you, I rock out because I feel it helps me get into the mode of writing. What I also do is listen to music that is related to my novel, so I can get in my characters head which helps a lot. Anyway I just want to say despite this long comment I just want to say that you can do it, and you will get published soon. You are awesome and keep up the good work and I can't wait to read your book when it gets released.

That sucks, I did achieved the Nanowrimo goal but my book is also not over. I feel so burn out right now from pushing too hard on Nano. :/ I can share two tips that might help. When you are stuck, try thinking of what will not happen in the scene and write it down. It can be silly but it can help you getting started. Try eliminanting the passive voice or advebs that might not need to be there. The rule is, if the setence makes sense without them, you can cut them out. Hope it helps.

okay last comment lol. my nanowrimo went really well! i wrote 52000 words! i got to the end of my story, but i skipped a lot of parts throughout the month. for the next two weeks i'm putting away my novel to focus on finals. and then for the rest of december i'm taking a break from everything and enjoying my time off of school. in 2017, i'm going to replan my novel and then do a second draft. from there, i'll see where i'm at and what i need to do. mostly i'm nervous about motivating myself and being able to get the story together because it's a wreck rn

I'm so ready for this book. You got this Christine! Also, this season of Teen Wolf has got me so hooked. I want all the episodes, so I can binge them all, but then it will be over forever. :((((
