This is a tutorial on making headbands which I decided to post, in case some people might not want to spend time on sewing headbands, yet don't want to use pre-made commercial headbands. On this video, I included a brief tutorial on another sewing headbands: Conservation style "One core headband". I added this simplest sewn headband demonstration in case some people have trouble with doing other styles. (session 1 & 2 of my sewn headbands videos). As for the leather headband featured on this video, I haven't publicly listed a video demonstration on paring leather on RU-vid, so those who haven't had experience of paring leather won't be able to make them. (sorry..) But, I will list a video on leather paring publicly in the future. Before going into a tutorial on case making, I'd like to let you know that I will have to make another video which I will show what's needed to be done prior to making a case. Thanks for your interest. MHR. P.S. Apologize for my dirty fingers! Ahh!
NOTE: As my purpose of creating these tutorial videos is to encourage general population to start getting involved in the bookbinding trade, I always try to demonstrate things with ordinary items as much as possible, so that it doesn't discourage viewers from trying it just because they don't have the particular equipment to do the job. The methods featured on my tutorial videos are very basic and often I have to change a little in order to make it more feasible to the beginners. So it should not reflect the real trade of bookbinding. Yet my instructions are thought through so that the end result will be perfectly decent if you follow them.

I had searched the web for ages trying to find tutorial videos of bookbinding and was about to give up when I came across your terrific and easy to understand lessons. I have learned so much in just a few hours adn can't wait to get my book project going; it's an ambitious project but with your lessons and a heck of a lot of practice, I'm sure it will be a great success. Thanks again for taking the time to upload. I have subscribed!

Thank you very much for your compliment. (blush..*) As I've been sooooo inundated with work lately, I haven't been able to created new video tutorials.... I feel horrible about it especially because my channel now has a number of subscribers and it seems to be increasing faster lately regardless of a lack of new uploads in recent months. I truly hope to be able to post a new video soon. Thank you all for your patience. MHR.

Thank you for the details. I really enjoy the videos. I think the combo of sepia and silence is very effective for focusing on what your fingers are doing. Sort-of the video version of Aldren Watson's "Hand Bookbinding" - the drawings only show the detail needed to highlight the technique ... where a photo would have other distracting detail. Thank you for sharing. Carl

@ertekinakbas Thank you for your kind words. I knew this video would be somewhat boring&mundane to most audiences, but I had to make it. Besides,it became longer than I expected. I had to cut some parts of the film to fit into the max.length allowed, so it might be lacking some instructions that some people might need.-As it's a simple task, I thought it'd be fine. I'll get to the case making soon, so stay tuned. Like I said, I still have to show "pre-case-making" information before that though.

Eu já fazia desse mesmo modo utilizado-me fitas que conheço com o nome de gorgurão, que têm já a superfície com finas listras da mesma cor mas em um leve auto-relevo.

? You mean the length of the thread and or core material? If so, your thread should be long enough to finish the headband. I cannot say exactly how long the thread must be as the size of the headbands varies book to book. Just keep it long is all I can say. As for the core material, the particular cord I used on this video is about .125" in diameter, but you can used something thinner or thicker as you prefer, as long as the size is appropriate and proportional to the book you are binding. :-)

Thank you for sharing your knowledge. it was a well presented tutorial and I enjoyed the silence. So many tutorials get somewhat ruined with too loud music.

The particular thread is 20/3 linen (flax).

So, I can learn to gauge material on my own ... What size materials are you using in the conservation headband sewing?
