Mixed feelings about this. On the one hand I would love to have a journal like this. On the other hand, the drivel I write is completely unworthy of such a beautiful piece of craftsmanship. I wonder how long this really took to make? Impeccable taste and execution.
@@UliTroyo Imagine like 500 years from now, we're going through some famous guy's stuff and we find a journal, looking through it we see their thoughts on the events going on around them and philosophical stuff, its all well and good until we find a drawing of a meme and some random ass joke beside it.
@Tributary House Ltd. Actually, that couldn’t be further from the truth. I just write about my day. Sometimes I talk about what I think about what’s happening in the world, but I am as likely to talk about hemmorhoids. (spelling?). I am thinking about opening up today’s entry with how much I hate the new Mark Trail comic strip. The content hasn’t changed much from the last one, but now he has the “Don Johnson” didn’t bother to shave today look. I never liked the Don Johnson look. The men of my father’s generation shaved every day, had skin like finely tanned leather and smelled of Aqua Velva. The men of my own generation shaved in the shower once a week, no doubt whimpering to their razors “please don’t hurt me”. Anyway, as you can see, not profound at all.
That would be like building an instrument and then hanging it on the wall. It’s a work of art in itself, but it isn’t complete until it is used. I guess the difference is that putting ink on paper is permanent. If you play sour notes on the musical instrument, at least they are ephemeral.
I love how good craftsmanship and well made things are starting to become popular again, I absolutely love how beautiful the vintage stuff are. I find the modern style of things a little bit boring and sometimes ugly, specially with houses, I really dont like those. Thank you for the video, the book looks amazing!
Modern style of things was developed to enable production of cheap, mass produced things. Mass production enabled much larger portion of population enjoy similar comforts which were previously only accessible to rich people. Books are just one example, cheaper, mass produced books enabled larger masses of people enjoy reading.
@@LPlFan81 Yes I know that, it's also the reason there's as much trash in the ocean as there is now. I didn't say it was pointless, I said it looked ugly and is very poorly made.
@@jiji3750 not at all, it just seemed like a very bizarre statement i wanted to make fun of, but clearly you’re way too nice to make fun of, so im sorry, have a nice day 🙏🏼
I've always wondered how books are made by hand. Seeing the whole process really makes you understand why books used to be an expensive luxury before people invented machines to make them.
It wasn't luxury because there were dozens masters in your area and they were competing with each other. Now that we have mass productions, real bookbinders can jack up the price because their handwork are a rare skill. Same with handmade shoes.
@@vegeta1885 if he can make let’s say one book a day + materials , even with the minimum range without the price of the skills it’s still gonna be expensive because he has to make a living pay taxes and more
Just work and you will get there, it's mostly technique and I'm pretty sure some schools are teaching artistry book binding. Good luck with that project.
As someone who has dabbled in bookbinding, I can confidently say that “I am not worthy”. This is a whole other level of artistry and technique. Just stunning.
time to write something on it. “When Mr Bilbo Baggins of Bag End announced that he would shortly be celebrating his eleventy-first birthday with a party of special magnificence, there was much talk and excitement in Hobbiton..."
Sometimes I can't fathom how we take an animal's skin and a tree and put it together to make something so spectacular. And then fill it with thoughts and emotions for others to read. Humans are so intuitive or either just very vile to create something like this. It's amazing... a beautiful product to look at.
@@surreygeorge11 I’m afraid that mine might not go to collage... every time I ask him to read a book he looks away from me, doesn’t say a word.... he’s always out with his friends doing teenager stuff , and not once do I think I’ve seen him study.... he doesn’t even go to school anymore....
I'm new here, so I haven't looked, but maybe there's an instruction video in this channel's videos. If not go over to Sea Lemon's channel. She shows several ways of doing binding, tools, etc and has updated more recent videos to reflect what she's learned through experience.
One of the finest hand craft videos I have seen...so much history in book making and binding...in particular with leather!!! I am a leather craftsman...doing saddle leather stuff...this is a brand new road for me...since I love books!! I will slowly try to educate myself about this craft and gain even more appreciation for such beautiful work!! Awesome work!!!
Something I've always wanted to do is rebind my favourite books in this fashion or to print off every Kindle book I own and bind it in this fashion so I could always keep a physical copy with me. But this journal is truly wonderful. You are incredibly talented!
👑Astounding!👑Fascinating!👑Remarkable!👑Magnificent!👑 BRAVO!!!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻 The look of this book took me to one one of my favourite centuries ever, when Handel was creating his another Masterpiece, when Bach's Stabat Mater sounds with its all beauty, when women again are in their gorgeous gowns with light, chic white wigs gently waving with their exquisite fans and men with their splendid suits and with tailed dark brown wigs dancing, talking and having a great time in a Royally Magical Ball👑🤴👸🌟🌹🌷💐🍾🥂🎉🎊
I love collecting fine vintage pieces even though I can't afford most of those art pieces, but leatherbound vintage journals are something that I spend money on , it's just so relaxing to come back home and write your progress on a fine piece of art with a beautiful well crafted pen. But as leatherbound journals are expensive I ll make one of these in my free time with a few pieces of leather that are left after the restoration
This is so beautiful I might actually shed some tears. I really want to get into bookbinding. Just thinking about it makes me excited. I've practiced some stitching on my old school paperwork that I'm planning to recycle and make new paper out of. Thank you for being a great inspiration. Such pieces of art are completely unique, extremely valuable and should be cherished forever!
Dios mío, esto es una de las cosas más bellas que he visto hacer a alguien, ponerle ese empeño, dedicación y amor a eso es simplemente hermoso, es arte
I respect the craftsmanship. I loved the piano that is being played in the background. Having a taste for such music makes me feel of being very wealthy!
[RU]Не поверите ,но я только задумался о переплёте книг и как их делают,так тутже это появилось в рекомендациях. Просто чудо. [EN]You won't believe it ,but I just thought about the binding of books and how they are made,so it also appeared in the recommendations. Just a miracle.
I genuinely loved this video it’s so captivating and i can tell how skilled you are and how much you love your craft! i’ve never seen a video that’s quiet this comprehensive of the process i love it! i was just wondering if it’s possible to list the tools you used? Thank you! have a great day :)

The way you poked the holes has made me cry tears of joy. I've been trying to figure out how to do that without the special table or trying to line it up flat. I feel liberated. You're an angel.
I just stumbled across this video and I couldn't stop watching. What an artist you are! So inspiring to see someone who is a true master at their craft.
LONG LONG TIME AGO, SOMEWHERE NEAR LEGARDA (MANILA) LOTS OF STORE OFFERING BOOK BINDING SERVICE, I USED TO BE THEIR FREQUENT CUSTOMER, WHAT A MEMORY... FEUNRMF
Absolutely wonderful, never had a clue about the process before & a total joy to watch!Amazing job, thank you for showcasing this ancient craft in an age where way too much is digital-only!Superb.🏆
I respect you so much!! So much attention to detail and devotion to your craft, I can only dream to be as good at something one day as you are. Truly inspirational
Parabéns…, sem dúvida uma obra de arte, o Amigo tem muito talento, fico assistindo aos seus vídeos e nem pisco os olhos para não perder um só detalhe. Abraço aqui do Brasil 🇧🇷
I didn't see this one for sell but saw the other 2 books that where and honestly that's cheap. I was expecting something between $400 to $500 honestly. Hopefully in the future I can buy one for a friend of mine.
Ohhhh I wish you spoke in this video!! I would love to know the names of the materials and hear the process step by step. Darn it I couldn’t even read lips! Lol. Beautiful craftsmanship!
