Roosevelt was ahead of his time. People back then were nuts about segregation laws. Teddy saw booker as an equal.

Yes, there were black Republicans, when they had their interests at heart.

We black Republicans still exist, we need to all vote GOP. Hell the Democrats have been the enemy of blacks past and present.

When Teddy Roosevelt was Governor of New York, he frequently had Black guests to dinner and sometimes invited them to sleep over. This was also not the first time African Americans were invited to dinner at the White House. In 1798, John Adams had dined in the President's House in Philadelphia with Joseph Bunel (a mulatto representative of the Government of Haiti) and his black wife. Black people, including leaders such as Frederick Douglass and Sojourner Truth, had been received at the White House by Presidents like Abraham Lincoln, Ulysses S. Grant, Rutherford B. Hayes and Grover Cleveland. At the invitation of First Lady Lucy Hayes, Marie Selika Williams became the first African American professional musician to appear at the White House.
