That's an intresting idea ,Musk has that capability of bringing in the textbook definition of horizontal (Tesla) and vertical (PayPal) integration in real life .

But this is also good insight and gives more credit to the theory that people can battle their depression by living more physical, challenging, and fulfilled lives with purpose(maybe not all). These days we talk about how so many people have depression but they literally stay at home all day and work shit jobs they hate. I use to be down but decided to change things around and in a sense like TDR i started to live more intensely and full. Took up martial arts 6 years ago, have done numerous hikes, hit the gym when i can, found a fulfilling job with purpose, a couple hobbies, fell in love with cars and driving again, and have a daughter to look out for now. I can say i move from one part of my day to the next giving 100% on that thing and i cant even begin to think about depression.

I don't know, him being sickly and weak early on and his competitive nature? That's usually a formula for someone who wanted to prove to himself, the world, and God that he is anything but. And usually, when you're on a roll, the momentum can carry you pretty far.

You've got it the wrong way around. He was a product of his own determination and drive...not his environment. If you find yourself wasting your hours sitting on a couch or gaming chair watching or pretending to do great deeds...then you've missed the point of being alive in the first place.
