I highly recommend There There and Wandering Stars by Tommy Orange. He's an indigenous author writing about indigenous characters.

I was able to attend a library event to hear the author of The Firekeepers Daughter. So interesting. ❤. She also recommended Tommy Orange books as authentic culture reads.

Highly recommend getting to Warrior Girl Unearthed when you can. It takes place ten years after firekeepers daughter and I think it was even better. Infuriating for sure but so worth the read. I just got book 2 (after Shutter)by Ramona Emerson and I can't wait. Same forensic photographer from Shutter, this time dealing with the ghosts of a serial killer.

I agree with Tommy Orange that has already been mentioned here in the comments. I also recommend The Seed Keeper by Diane Wilson. I also want to mention Louise Erdrich and Marcie Rendon.

VenCo by Cherie Dimaline is super fun! It’s pitched as an indigenous witchy golden girls road trip 😅 There is an audiobook, but I wish I’d read it physically. If you enjoyed Nickel Boys, I’d suggest Five Little Indians by Michelle Good. It follows five indigenous Canadians who were taken from their homes to Indian Residential Schools. Some of the storylines are very dark, so check trigger warnings!

I loved Firekeeper's Daughter too! I think you might like The Sentence by Louise Erdrich.

Hi Sarah Did you make those letters that spell out “read” on your shelf?

Hi! My friend Amanda made that for me. It features four of my favorite books.
