Was biphasic sleep actually mentioned in The Odyssey? Because I heard somewhere that historians post-Industrial Revolution thought that human sleep cycles were the same back then as they are now, due to longer work shifts in factories and such causing people to sleep all in one go, and because of such anachronism, historians simply ignored the idea of pre-Industrial Revolution, people slept all in one go.
I have not come across unusual sleep patterns in my studies, except for some Viking sagas, I think, in which people suddenly feel tired and go take a nap. But this sounds like some sort of folk tale motif to me.
I kind of questioned the sanity of it just as a child just playing total war games before I even started reading military treatises. It's more doable with cavalry but, even then, you'd want a "hollow' triangle as a double echelon, not a solid triangle. What's the point of a charge with lances if the bulk of men are never even contacting the enemy? Worst case scenario you punch into the enemy's deeper ranks but then get surrounded. Plus if you've enough men in a normal shaped cavalry formation, you should bowl over or ideally even wrap around them. I think Churchill's the only eye witness account of rank depth of a cavalry charge but according to him a horsemen usually bowls over ten men before losing all momentum. Also will definitely check out that second book next time I do a bout of Amazon orders, simply for the battle of Issus lol. The whole river thing has been a bafflement to me since according to all conceivable rules of war of the era, charging both cavalry and a pike formation across a contested riverbank should be total suicide and not result in an overwhelming victory for the one charging.
hey charlie, quick tip, there should be a way in what ever software you use to record to turn of noise cancellation, which will make your guitar sound better on the recording
What software. I just make a video, play along with it, and then do it over, which results in the shitty sound. I'm trying to get up to speed with a thing called audacity.
