I read East of Eden last year and it instantly became my favorite book of all time, one of my the only books I’d consider perfect

Sorry to hear about your grandfather's passing 🤍Books that make you question your core beliefs are unlike any other! The only book in this video that I've read is "Up from Slavery." Your review of "East of Eden" makes me want to read it even if it wasn't anywhere on my radar haha

I guess you could say "In Cold Blood." was life changing for me, but what I think is haunting about that book is that it's violence was absolutely shocking back when it took place in 1959 Kansas, but now that type of violence is commonplace in our country. Capote gave us a masterpiece, IMO. I agree with you 100% about East of Eden, I read it decades ago and it totally kicked my ass. I'm not the kind of person that throws around the word masterpiece like its confetti, but what can I say? East of Eden is a fucking masterpiece as well, no question about it. Cool video Nate.

I'm new to literature and want to learn what to start off with. I really appreciate your time and book suggestions. I think I will start with East of Eden. Thank you, Nate. Love your channel.

Im just about to start East of Eden in a few days, looking forward to it. Have you read any Gene Wolfe? There was a distinct me before and after reading him. Borges was a favorite of his, and it comes through in some of the wild ideas in his stories, plus Wolfe was a masterful prose stylist

never read him, but i've heard great things. and le guin liked him, so that's a good sign too. if borges is an influence, i'm on board.

100 years of solitude and the idiot are easily some of my favourite books as well, glad they were mentioned! I'm new to the channel, so maybe youve mentioned it, but you should do a russian classical lit review, including master and margarita, a hero of our time, dead souls, things like that. Keep up the great work! :)
