I LOVE Don Quixote. It’s my favorite book of all time. I agree with almost everything you’ve said here. It’s amazingly readable considering the antiquated language. It’s so full of insight and whimsy and passion. I feel like it is so many different books all wrapped up into one. So much literature has been shaped by it. We all have our struggles with sanity. Watching Don Quixote (Alonso Quixano) go through with his life of adventure, and then come back to reality and reach peace at the end is so beyond touching.

For a book written way back in the early 1600s, it's surprisingly relevant today. While reading this, I thought of the comparison of Don Quixote's break with reality after his immersion into old books with knight errantry to the modern age of social media addiction causing the warping of people's identities and mass delusion. Think of how so many people create online personas that cause a sense of confusion between the person they are in the day to day world and the person they become online , and then become so wrapped up in their online interactions that they neglect their personal life. Cervantes was way, way, way ahead with his insights on this aspect of human nature, the drive to blur the lines between fantasy and reality to the point where the fantasy takes over, but in turn the fantasy creates a reality of it's own in the "real world". I imagine "Don Quixote" will become even more relevant in this new dawning age of virtual reality immersion and the Metaverse.

The first great novel of world literature is probably Tale of Genji. Still, good stuff. ;)

Sancho Panza really makes this book enthralling. I could not imagine Don Quixote without Sancho. Best sidekick ever.

I'm sure you've been told already but Shakespeare did not write in Middle English. It was an early form of modern English.

Great review. Have you read The Three Musketeers? Not as great as Don Quixote but it’s still such a good classic and has some entertaining conflict and dialogue!

Good review mate. Its not easy to give an insightful and original view of a book that's been talked about so much as this one, but i feel your personal style when discussing it is fresh even when it isnt the most correct or academic.
