Thank you so much for another lovely video, Miranda. Thank you for mentioning the Linnea books! Despite being over 60 years old, they continue to be some of my favorite books that I turn to again and again for the delightful reminders of seeing life through the eyes of a child. Lena Anderson's illustrations are so charming! They never cease to bring a smile to my face! If you are looking for lovely children's books which evoke the joys of summer, illustrator and author Jim LaMarche has two that are enchanting! "The Raft" and "The Pond" are beautifully illustrated and the stories are very pleasant. I will be pulling both from my bookshelf to enjoy this summer! Your recommendations for "A Poem for Every Summer Day", "The Nature of Summer", and "Summer" have whet my appetite for something to read which is particular to summer. Summer is not my favorite time of year here in mid-America with all of the heat and humidity, so having pleasant thoughts upon which to dwell concerning summer is a very welcome musing! You look lovely in white! It brings out the beauty of your porcelain complexion.
So many wonderful books to choose from, especially The Annotated Mrs. Dalloway, which I endeavor to delve into this weekend. I also want to pick up Summer by Melissa Harrison for my bedside table and A Rose Named Peace by Barbara Carroll Roberts for my Mom. We always had rose bushes growing up, and the peace rose bush was always one of her favorites. At 95, I think she will appreciate the wonderful illustrations and the memories. I really enjoy your "reading list" videos and they have inspired much of my reading. I picked up "The Windsor Knot" in honor of the Queen's Jubilee, found it just charming and am now devouring the second book in the series. Perfect light summer reads and it makes me smile to think of the Queen secretly solving crimes. I'm intrigued by the Vanderbeeker series and will need to look for them in my library. Thank you for the link to "Adlestrop" as it is one of my goals to introduce more poetry into my life. I've been working on organizing, digitally cataloging, dusting, sorting, weeding out, and generally touching every book in our home. There are thousands so this is a large endeavor, and there are precarious piles everywhere at the moment. I have to say that I imagined that I would feel no need to purchase another book for a long time....but my list grows! I will be reading "A Sky Painted Gold" once I catch up and finish "Emma." I'd love to find a copy of "Cottage Pie" but it looks like that may be tricky here in New England. When I do finish this project I plan to read the summer away...that is assuming I finish it before summer is over!

I will be reading the annotated Mrs. Dalloway. In my youth, I read contemporary novels, especially family sagas. Great authors. Contemporary books today do not have the vocabulary building nor the good writing that the past gave to us. I read books from the 20’s through the 40’s. What wonderful books I’ve read. I've already read "A Sky Painted Gold", it was so engrossing that it took me ony two afternoons to finish, and as it is not a genre that I usually read I am so grateful for the Comfort Book Club, thanks Miranda:-) "Cassandra at the wedding" also sounds like something that I will devour very fast! This year I will listen to "Mrs. Dalloway" on BBC Sounds app, there is a version read by Sian Thomas.
Lots of my favourite Agatha Christie novels here, but I must check out the short stories - I've not heard of the majority of those! You mention Anna Massey as also a narrator of an audio version of Rebecca. You probably already know this, but she played Mrs Danvers in a late 70s BBC dramatisation - probably the most faithful version of the book I've seen.

Thank you for all these recommendations! Tove Jansson is one of my favourite authors and I can really recommend all her books. (Moomin and "non-Moomin") I too really loved the books about Linnea! (And had the doll and wanted her style of clothes for myself and when looking at myself this very moment I realize she still is my style icon...) The author/illustrator has written more just as adorable children's book and I can recommend them all for example Hedgehog's secret (that one so cute one's heart melts) or Nicky The Nature Detective and Elliot's Extraordinary Cookbook (I think these are the correct titles in English) I love her illustrations so very much and always find new little details. I watched this earlier day and have just relented and bought A Sky Painted Gold. I have heard you talk about it so many times and then when I looked at some reviews and it was compared a bit to the Great Gatsby I was sold.

I plan to start it after finishing my current read, A Charmed Life-Growing Up in Macbeth's Castle, which is Liza Campbell's memoir of growing up in Cawdor Castle in the Highlands of Scotland.
