Thank you so much Miranda for another wonderful video! I love your recommendations because they include children's novels, and lesser-known ones at that, which I adore hearing about! 🐞

I think I MUST have this beautiful copy of Emma. I love the book, but this particular version is stunning! You have also included many of my favorites on your May reading list--and I'm inspired to pluck them off my shelves, get cozy with a cup of coffee, and start reading! :)

Such lovely recommendations! Emma, The Blue Castle and Elizabeth and her German Garden are old favourites of mine, so nice to hear The Blue Castle mentioned especially as it is less well known. I think this edition of Emma is the perfect one to read in the spring/summer, what a gorgeous cover! I bought Old Herbaceous a while ago on your recommendation but haven’t read it yet, I will definitely try to read it soon, May does seem the right time for garden books. Thank you, I really enjoyed watching this!

Hi Miranda! I'm re reading Emma at the moment, thank you for giving me the incentive to pick it up again as it's the first time I've gone back to it since I read it initially. Looking forward to the book club video later this month :) I've just finished reading the third book in the Cazalet Chronicles which I loved, and am now moving on to The Hunchback of Notre Dame :)

Hello Miranda, thank you for a lovely list of May and late Spring reads. I am reading Emma for the Comfort Book Club and I think I will watch the film too if we have a rainy afternoon. I am also planning to read The Vanished Bride by Bella Ellis. Happy reading, Teresa 🌷📚🌷

Again your recommendations are just superb, and I have ordered several books from Persephone Books as well as Blackwells. My TBR pile is getting out of hand! I enjoy your comments and choices many I have never heard of since some of the English authors didn't get across the big pond and then across the hundreds of miles to the rural plains of Northeastern Montana and our County Carnegie Library. So, the new reading choices are fascinating for me.🌷

Thanks for another great video! The RC Sheriff book in particular sounds very interesting. I also rarely read 'classic' sci-fi (tried and failed many times with a variety of authors), but every now and then a book or author in that genre really clicks. For example, I LOVED The Day of the Triffids by John Wyndham the first time I read it and have since gone on to really enjoy several more of his novels. For anyone who is interested in English folklore/myth, I always think May is a good time to pick up some Robin Hood-related reading, as Robin - or Robin Hood-like characters - are often a part of traditional May celebrations. Or perhaps Sir Gawain and the Green Knight with a nod to The Green Man. 🧙🧝 Happy Reading Miranda (and Donna)! 🦊📚🤓

Thank you for your recommendation of "Illyrian Spring." I loved it and felt a certain affinity with and admiration for Grace. She was gentle, kind and curious and has become one of my favorite literary characters. I sat and just held the book for a while after finishing and before adding it to my bookshelf. This morning I started "Emma". Jane Austen just gets better and better with every re-read. Lot's of rain here on Long Island also, which is such a good excuse to just curl up with a cup of tea and keep reading. Hope you are blessed with some sun this weekend and can spend time reading in your garden!

I love The Blue Castle and read it most years. I also adore all the books in H E Bates Darling Buds of May series. I've read a lot of Du Maurier but I don't think I ever read The Flight of the Falcon. I never really took to the Abbey books, I don't know why. Thanks for all the other recommendations too. Miss Willmott's Ghost is also the name of a variety of Sea Holly (Eryngium Giganteum), actually named after Ellen Willmott. She apparently loved it so much that she used to secretly drop seeds in the gardens she visited!

I've already started in on my lovely Marjolein Bastin edition of Emma, and am thoroughly enjoying it! Other books on my May TBR are Still She Haunts Me by Katie Roiphe which is a fictional account of Lewis Carroll's strange friendship with Alice Liddell, The Asylum by Karen Coles (gotta get my Victorian gothic fix haha), and also some supplemental Spring children's books/stories like Brambly Hedge, The Giant Golden Book of Elves and Fairies, and Little Witch Hazel. Just finished a darling middle grade book called By Ash, Oak and Thorn from Melissa Harrison which was so Spring-y 🍄🐇 Hope you have a wonderful weekend with time for lots of reading, Miranda!

Such great suggestions! I am eager to delve into several that you mentioned. "Elizabeth and Her German Garden" is a perfect choice and has been a long time favorite of mine, too. And I agree with you on "My Cousin Rachel." I wanted to tell everyone about this book after I first read it. It was around 20 years ago, when my children were in grade school. I was a sleep deprived Momma getting two kiddos off to school one morning because I had intended on reading only a few pages and stayed up the entire night to finish it! Would you believe I've never read Emma? Looking forward to it. 😊

I had no idea it was a month for Daphne du Maurier, but I am coincidentally reading The House on the Strand at the moment and will finish it this weekend. My favourite has always been My Cousin Rachel; however, this is extremely readable and pacy - I’m really enjoying it! I love the sound of the garden books and biographies and will be reading Emma. I’ve recently seen the latest film version and all the adaptations I’ve seen are all so different that I’ve got to read it to remind myself and decide which is the truest version! Thank you for the recommendations.

I love love LOVE The Blue Castle! I’ve read it so many times over a lifetime. If I could chose any book to be made into a movie it would be this one (second choice would be The Middle Window by Elizabeth Goudge). I’ve also read Emma many times and think it’s a perfect choice for May. There are some books I “rotate” according to the seasons too…I always seem to reread the Anne of Green Gables books in the summer and the Emily of New Moon books in the fall. I read The Enchanted April many years ago and loved it, but by then I had seen the lovely movie so many times and it had made such a huge impression on me I only read the book once. I just love your channel because you’ve mentioned so many books I’ve loved for so many years that have just become part of my DNA!
