I adore how your books are loved and not obsessed with having hard backs and 'aesthetic' complete collections, and not cracking the spine. I appreciate people now love that but I always found it unsettling and a little materialistic. I feel at home on this side of booktube. Thank you for sharing.

What I love about this bookself tour: -The books that looked read and loved. -The classics in chronological order (seriously I might try and do that, although I do not own many classics- i get them from the library) - all the greek and Roman texts - this line: "The fall of the roman empire... so sad I know" (I feel you. Let's not talk about the library of Alexandria being destroyed or else I will get emotional) -you wanting to learn ancient greek and Latin ♥️ -All these historical fiction. (One of my favourite genres) - finally someone who does not read only ya. (Nothing against ya, but it's always better to explore more genres in my opinion) -great treasures of Pompeii and Herculaneum (because we love Pompeii and Herculaneum) -somebody who still borrows books from the library. -Harry Potter (and the italian version of course. I don't know if you have read it, if yes I am curious to know what you think about the translation of some of the names like Tassorosso, Silente, Piton ecc). I am glad RU-vid recommend me this video, and of course I subscribed.

Wait, I have something I can’t swallow: do not, under any circumstances, read Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Terrible, complete fanfiction, save your childhood.
@repulore13
@repulore13 4 года назад
Murielle Azzi I couldn’t agree more. Of course I read it already, absolutely over glorified fan fiction. How J.K. Rowling can call it “canon” is just laughable. Hate it, hatttteee it
@murielllee

My Bookish Addiction I read it all in one go but all throughout it, it was just WTF moments. They skipped THE YEARS. This is what fanfiction does. It’s so so bad. I choose to ignore this whole book whenever I think about Harry Potter because it just ruins EVERYTHING.

I read Cursed Child and when I first read it thought it was okay, but then after I did a reread of the Harry Potter series and reread Cursed Child, I hated that book. There are better written Harry Potter fanfiction out there that depict Harry after the war and his children.

I felt like I found a booktuber that I can trust. I am so sick and tired of all these YA fiction novels. Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy them, but classics and moreover someone that appreciate classic literature as Greek, Latin, and Russian, is a rare phenomenon here in this community. Finally, someone's opinion on book proposals would matter to me!

"They're my favorite smelling books I own." Hahaha!!! YES girl!!!!! I've smelled books all my life and my three grown sons do it now too! First thing we all do when we get a book is plant it on our face and take a mighty whiff! I laugh with joy each time I see my sons do it! What a good mom I am for teaching them that! lol

I’m with this new goal of reading more classics (I’m also an English lang and lit student - but I’m Brazilian, so we don’t have as much classes in literature or as deep as you probably have) and now I NEED to rearrange my classics by publishing order. I have a problem with how uneven they might be, but the idea of looking at it and know what was happening in literature worldwide is a pretty cool and inviting one. Also I SCREAMED when you said one of your favorite books is phantom of the opera!!! It’s one my favs too! Gotta grab a copy of “phantom” tho. Haven’t read yet, but it’s on my TBR

I always love bookshelf tours. They're so calming. And you have a lovely collection and I loved getting to see how you set everything up. I already mentioned that I love your collection, but the Virals! I haven't seen anyone talk about it either it's wild. I went through a small Kathy Reichs phase because I was obsessed with Bones for several years. I love those HP prints. They're lovely. I feel you on the cost of textbooks. It's ridiculous. I love that you put your books in chronological order. Oh hey Wheelock haha. I've translated so many of those Romans. They're all a good time. Definitely enjoyed this Emma.

I had 6 hours a week of Greek last year and 4 hours a week this year, I can tell you it is hard. It can be tedious at times but when you get it right, it is really rewarding :) I am impressed that you feel it is pretty easy. As for me, I still think it is the most difficult part of my degree which focuses on all aspect of what we call "the humanities" in France (French literature, English literature, Philosophy, History and Ancient studies like Greek and Latin). Having to translate Greek is really tricky. But hey, how many people can say they read/understand/write ancient Greek after all ? Also, I really enjoy your videos ! This one in particular made me want to raid my mother's bookshelf for more English classics ! Thank you :)

That Amphoreas or Amphora "Greek vase" you have there is very beautiful and it should be more valuable than 6$. Maybe it represents goddess Artemis or just a huntress in the front and it is exactly designed as the ones they used back in the 300-3000 BC era. The whole room looks very cozy and well decorated. Very nice place! Book is the main ingredient!

It caught my attention you said you wanted to read more medieval things, so I’ve come to recommend some stuffs. I’m also a literature student, but it’s german literature lol. Since I live in Latinamerica, they also teach the Hispanic (as in from Spain) heritage of Iberoamerican literature, so we have to read A LOT of Spanish Medieval and Reinassance literature. If you’re interested in medieval stuff or pre-Reinassance, you should definitely check Spanish literature out. Other than that, I recommend “Amadís de Gaula” (which is kind of like Arthurian (?) vibe), “La Celestina” (it’s from the genre “novela picaresca” so like satire and it’s genuinly kinda funny) and of course I think you should read “Don Quijote” (I think you English sepaking people write it like Quixote). I think even if you don’t have a huge interest in hispanism like me lol, these are works that are worth your time and interest.

1860-1880 was a time of reform in Russia, literacy rates increased, more people had access to university. There was the intelligentsia who were a small minority who were educated, could travel and I suppose Russian literature bloomed from this. It was also I time of revolutionary ideas, Karl Marx, for example.
