This is the pilot personality they warn you of in paragliding school. New pilots watching this need to recognize that no amount of skill will save him in the event of a big enough collapse. Dude is flying on luck.
luck is everywhere, your point for or against training? but it is on point, lucky you weren't in the intersection last time someone ran a red light, this guy is really flying, soaring and grooving on it with skill and feeling if your instructor can't share some videos like this find a new one.
He recently hit a cliff side on a speed wing and ended up in the hospital. He can't walk anymore. Look at the comments... Everyone predicted it. Thankfully it was an injury and not death. Hopefully he learned his lesson and changes the way he flies.. Wingovers are cool but you don't do them 5 feet over the ground on a wing with that AR.
@Peter Campbell You were right. He recently hit a cliff side on a speed wing and ended up in the hospital. Thankfully it was just an injury and not death.
Your carefree attitude is only seen in fresh pilots that has not yet suffered an accident. You are constantly flying on the very edge, where even the smallest deviation in lift/turbulence/topography from what you predict (or hope), will end you in the trees (or worse) sooner or later. Never mind the front collapse which was in my opinion the least disturbing thing in this video.

@@teddyruxpin3811 is it true...? Paraplegic ... I’m very sorry to hear that. Certainly he made light of excursions that would galvanize most of us... please tell me true... paralyzed or just bones?
This is very, very, very risky. A year ago I had an accident when surfing a ridge similar like you do in the video. The wing front stalled when I was low, no altitude for recovery, I hit the ground. I broke my spine in 2 places, luckily for me it wasn't complete spinal cord injury. 12 months after Im solwly learnig to walk again although Ive got no control over my feet, bladder and my penis:( (I had 12 years of experience before the accident)
Get well soon... This looks like some dodgy flying to me too, luckily the collapse was a small one and happened when he was high. If it had happened a few seconds earlier when he said "oh this is rotory" it might have been a very different story. Respect the skills shown in this video, and I'd love to be able to do it myself, but I hope the pilot is aware at all times of how his wing will react if it gets a collapse and builds a bit of a safety margin in.
I have been flying for over 20 years and still have a great respect (fear) for flying, which has ensured that I am still flying injury free. Paragliding is a safe sport as long as the rules are followed. Anyone who violates them will one day experience disaster.
It's probably just a matter of time before you have an accident if you continue to fly like this. The cost of such an accident will be paid for by everyone but you also risk continued use of the site too thus depriving others of enjoying flying here.
Will your relatives upload your final video too? I'd love to see that one for analytics! When I read comments about what a great pilot he is, I start to wonder! Strange how people define "good & skilled". A good pilot won't risk his life like this. Period! Russian roulette has nothing to do with skills either. Five and a half mins of mental behaviour! A perfect "How not to paraglide" video!
I also flew like that when just started 19 years ago. Even w/o helmets. In fife years I became prudent. Lucky, that I did not suffered incidents. Absolutely agree that this is dangerous for watching by fresh pilots. Take care everyone pls.
Why so much acro so close to the cliff? is that really needed?.....don´t mean to sound like your mom but if you want to enjoy the sport a few years more....
How strong was the wind? Looks fun It looks like could have/should have flown a speed wing in the second part of the video. Although you probably would have hit the ground then 😁
no its not awesome, he is a lucky guy flying a compe wing like that, so close to the cliff is risky a unnecessary is totally ridiculous. something similiar to you flying a home made paramotor with 0 skills at all.
The bay is Ringstead, near Weymouth in the UK. This ridge extends out to the SE from launch and the far end of it is called the White Nothe. I never flew the site in hang gliding days, many years ago, because it isn’t entirely straightforward for a beginner - I did not get beyond that stage. There is a transition from launch out onto the ridge which can be difficult - where this pilot gets too close to the house. Beautiful place.
@@sebastianlee119 hey man I am a paragliding pilot and I am known to do risky stuff. the video was thrilling to watch. I feel so much alike you but I am telling you this now because I like to be told so if I take risk by this far. your skills are way good but one day something very little goes wrong but you won't have any time or altitude to react and that would mean something very bad. you should not be doing stuff like that specially with that wing take a look at my instagram: instagram.com/tv/CGVSMtdA-zX/?
Gawd, since my PPL for light planes and gliders was cancelled (heart condition) I fly RC planes and slope soarers with FPV camera onboard and even I wouldn't get that close...and I can always walk TOWARDS any accident. There are bold pilots and old pilots....
Cut it too fine and it only takes a tiny amount of wingtip and an unexpected unevenness in the air to turn this into you being another paragliding casualty. Not being pious - just come out of a cast and doing my daily physio to fly again.
Used, it should come pretty cheap, as nobody really wants to die. Lower B wings are more expensive, as people value their passive safety. But such a high performance wing is usually a "buy once, and never be able to resell it" project...
@@ZopcsakFeri I've been told to "get a Boomerang 11" as they're 'much better.' This was the highest aspect ratioed glider I've ever seen up to this point (which was some time ago). I have a sailplane background so...high aspect ratio gliders I'm drawn too. Thanks for your perspective!
@@cluelessbeekeeping1322 Undoubtedly, the higher the aspect ratio, the better performance you get, both in terms of airspeed and glide ratio. But simultaneously the risk factor also gets higher and higher, and there is a sweet spot where you no longer want to be faster, just land in one piece. I'm sorry my reply didn't really answer your initial question, as I'm not a vendor myself, I just thought you were in need of a counterargument against deathdealer "wings". Of course, it's still your choice. In my country, you can only get paragliders through licensed schools, and they know what wing they sell to which member of their club, which is another level of safety, but I'm not sure about the UK/US.
@@ZopcsakFeri That's okay, it's been a long time, I've figured out all of my questions and I don't mind different perspectives. A high aspect ratio wing, in general will give you a more efficient wing, but it also gives a MUCH narrower speed range than a low aspect ratio wing. It's much like the conservation of energy. There is no 'free lunch.' I don't like governments telling me what to do regardless of why. I don't know that I'll buy a Boomerang, but after I get some cash flow going...I'm going to get something, but ... must get my plane flying 1st (N3 Pup).
There is a saying amongst pilots: There are old pilots and there are bold pilots, but there are no old bold pilots. This guy doesn't need to have a good retirement plan.
Courage and fear goes together: If you don't fear something, you are not courageous when you face it. This guy is fearless. Most often a commendable trait; but we who fly paragliders know how much more quickly things can go wrong when you fly close to objects all the time. And again: It takes no skill to fly close to the terrain, it takes skill to avoid hitting it! Which this guy does in halv his videos...
@@ZopcsakFeri "I wonder why he did it" He didn't do it on purpose. "Any specific ideas?" He is on bar, which lowers the angle of attack and makes front tucks more likely. Modern gliders are trimmed to favour front tucks instead of asymmetric ones on bar, because you really don't want a massive asymmetric going 60Kph straight into a spiral or spin. "apparently there are no obstacles to induce turbulence where he got that front collapse" There are plenty of obstacles down wind to make rotor! The wind isn't straight on, so there is some from each bit of cliff sticking out, there is the lower cliffs too, plus whatever all that uneven ground in between is throwing off. Plus it's a Boomerang, they have a reputation for wanting to get back in the bag while you are still flying them. He is also pushing his luck right to the edge.
When chris maurer make it (he is a genius) if someone unknown does ( is stupid).. hypocritical society, antoine montant, mathias roten died that way.. but never questioned his works.. the important things is to know the price paid for our actions (he know).. live and let live much more people die in car accidents..
When Chris Maurer makes it, it is very risky and stupid as well! Only difference, Chris Maurer is out paragliding every damn day and has wing hours some airline pilots would love to have. Still he is no god and unable to see air movements like everyone else.
He recently hit a cliff side on a speed wing and ended up in the hospital. Look at the comments... Everyone predicted he would soon be injured or die because of the way he flies. Thankfully it was an injury and not death. Hopefully he learned his lesson and changes the way he flies.. Wingovers are cool but you don't do them 5 feet over the ground on a wing with that AR.
@@teddyruxpin3811 I'm sure he knew his risks and accepted them all risks are calculated hopefully it doesn't happen again but if that's the way he likes to fly he'll do what he wants that glider he was on was not the safest with that high aspect ratio should have been on like a 14 square meter dominator .
What are doing aren't wing-overs, which considering that you are flying a high aspect ratio glider in a supine harness is just as well. A real wing-over allows you to see the ground over the trailing edge of the glider, much harder to execute well than sat, spiral or even helicopter, and very difficult to recover from if done badly.
10 seconds into this video I thought 'holy shit this dude is a total cowboy'... it didn't improve. Wing-overs so close to terrain, and other really careless foolhardy choices. Bliss could quickly have become a dire situation.
