I saw this film when it came out, as was my post-graduate art class teacher’s first day recommendation that we should to down to the little indie theater over the weekend and do so, and I’ve loved it ever since. I find myself quoting lines from scenes like this one even years later.

Although there are those who disagree and that's fine with me cause everybody's entitled to their own opinion but I and many ppl believe Raymond Dalmau has been the greatest Puerto Rican basketball player ever. He was so committed to representing the Puerto Rican National Team that he declined an offer to play with the old ABA team the Utath Stars bc at the time players weren't allowed to do both as they do today, play profesionally and represent their country at the same time. It was one or the other but not both. Benicio's shirt with that #14 was Raymond's original shirt when he played for Puerto Rico. One of many. When shooting the ball in the movie, Benicio is trying to imitate Raymond's style of shooting when he was a player, which was btw very effective. I've been wondering whether Benicio's character, Benny Dalmau, really existed in Basquiat's life or is he a ficticious character. Love this movie btw.
