The uproar from cutting Matisse wasn't because of his status or being in the NBA; it was because of his defensive impact on the court, which was one of the reasons we won bronze in 2021. We tend to forget that we had the hardest group stage during the 2023 FIBA Tournament, with Germany and Slovenia. Dyson and Matisse can coexist if Dyson decides to actually play like a guard.

Dyson Daniels has been fantastic and I think he will continue to be great at the Olympics. He was not the person who I would drop for Matisse, but imagine if we had both of them so we could always have one of them in the game. I don’t think Delly was necessary, others could play backup point. We could use Matisse much more than Delly, even though Delly hasn’t been bad so far, that’s not the point. Matisse’s strength defensively at his size is not matched by anyone else, plus his athleticism in transition.

Joe is the perplexing selection to me, I’d have preferred Goulding for when Patty is cold

Ingles experience, confidence and leadership will be a positive for Australia. We also need that dog type attitude that he brings.

The Boomers defence has looked incredible. We just need to make sure we have enough offence to win. We are much better than I initially thought and have a great chance to get out of the pool stage.
