A natural wonder right here in Alberta. I had already explored the Booming Ice Chasm 7 years ago, so I knew what to expect. But this was the first time for the rest of our crew.
Other than the anchor at the entrance, we didn't use any of the bolted anchors in the cave. We brought 4 ropes to reach the bottom and simply used ice screws for anchors. The polished ice was about 50 degrees at the top and then mellowed to around 35 degrees farther down. We climbed back up the ropes using hand ascenders and progress-capture devices. I was quite happy to have packed in my mountaineering boots as it made the climb up very easy. Bonnie on the other hand struggled a little using boots that were a bit too soft for her crampons.
