His recording gear has certainly improved since 2017, and now he has that fancy checkmark next to his name. I only found him because of "stealth camping," but that's more of a rough-times survival thing, I camp to socialize and have fun... can't be stealth when you have 4 guys drinking. Now I have to find the ice-fishing video where this stove is used.
I have used this same woodstove for 4 years running now for the only heat i have and for cooking in the wintertime i love this little stove and i have 14 feet of pipe on mine it has really good draw too :)
@@davewebster5120 if you get all new black pipe it cost a little more but will last a long time and then I believe it is 5" pipe at the stove you can use the same pipe dampening just drill to holes in the new pip
Steve is seriously the coolest guy on RU-vid! If I’m having a shi I mean crappy day I always check out a Steve video. Almost always makes things better. Love ya Steve from South Carolina.
My family just bought a small plot of land in the Adirondack and we plan to build a cabin, I really want to make a small shed off to the side that'll be my art studio and I want something to keep me warm when I wanna work there in the winter, I remembered that you use this in your videos and decided to do some backtracking, didn't expect a whole video on it. Thanks Steve keep up the vids and stay safe out there!
Have used mine for five years. No problems, does not smoke up tent. Stove pipes work fine. Heats up my 12x20 Alaknak just fine. Like the flat cooktop and the side water heater. Makes winter camping fun.
I have this exact stove along with nesting water heater and love it. Steve, hilarious the way you throw the parts all over and throw the door open like you’re trying to break the hinges but still say, “that probably means it’s going to last a while”. If you take care of it, it will last even longer. 😂
Hey Steve, ever think about taking orders for that stove of yours and your tent, marking it up 10% and most likely retiring in a couple years if you keep this up. You're such a freaking natural with the wit of yours just kills me.
I have the same stove some of the modifications ive done as follows I put harbor freight chipping hammer spring handles( cut them off the hammers ) on the door latch and front vent Put some fire proof door seal around the door Put rubber end caps on the legs Made little handles on the leg thumb screws ( they look like the tightening handle on a vice) I welded nuts onto self taping screws then put 2 at each smoke stack connection joint Made my own rain cap with spark arrestor screen Found a vintage Milatary wood stove shovel that fits inside the stove when taken apart Stove works great Keeps the 13’X20’ wall tent cozy in the winter time The water tank is a bit noisy when its heating water
Camp chef should've given Steve the stove for free for how much free advertising they've gotten for it through Steve's videos. I don't even winter camp but, because of Steve's channel, I know I must eventually have one! For under $200, and all it does for you, its a steal. And if you take good care of it, it can last you a lifetime.
That’s nice they put the damper holes in the pipe for you. I have always had to make them myself. An old rancher friend gave me the secret. a .22 bullet makes the perfect size hole, and if you hold your gun level they are both always in line!
Nice stove. I've got a smaller one, with the 4 inch pipe like you described. I used it to do all my cooking for 6 months when I lived off-grid in a caravan. Absolutely loved it!
I paid close attention to the stove..I'm the designated BBQ guy..for summer camping with family & friends Outdoorworld Lake & Shore New jersey..I wanna show my kids that winter camping is just as fun..I love it
I discovered your videos about 2-3 months ago and have been trying to catch up...I saw the one where you first started the truck camper build...perhaps nothing more has been done with it...I will keep watching...love these addictive vids.
Since covid, I started gardening more. I'm getting ready to put together a greenhouse, with a aquaponics for fruits, veggies, and tilapia. This stove will be subgrade, and hopefully produce ample heat. Aquaponics has a nice thermal mass and with the mild winters here, I might not even need to use it many years. But this will ensure a extra layer of protection to the system as weather can be unpredictable at times
I have one of these in my bighorn 3 tent from Cabellas. Couple of things i think they could improve on. Damper on front too loose . On mine could also have damper screw could be 1/4 more to the right to completely shut off air. Also doors little loose and doesn't shut completely tight. Also where stovepipe goes into top of stove should have a ring so you can screw to pipe. Mine fell completely out during windstorm. Thankfully mid summer wasn't on. I used haywire to secure it from moving bzck and forth side by side. Other than those minor things its a great stove heavy duty and kept bighorn toasty moose hunting month half ago. Everything you need comes with it and fits conveniently inside
I had this stove in my Amazon cart for months. Couldnt pull the trigger because of price. I waited too long and paid $20 more. Saw you video in the tent and decided to buy it now. Thx for making this first video; only now seeing it. Needed to know how to put the spark arrestor on ;)
I have the same stove. By the way the grates you slide on the side, you have them upside down. That's a great stove I have used it many a time during a winter camp in my Alaknak 12 x 12
jocap75 same setup here, alaknak and camp chef stove. Modified my stove with a gasket for the door, welded a sheet of steel under the stove exhaust to stop sparks & keep heat in stove better. Stole the idea from 3 dog wood stoves RU-vid page haha
Hahaha. Watched your entire 8 week school winter camping finished it today. saw this guy put the hotdogs in the pan in this video. then put beer in it.. im like this guy is trying to copy that guys videos. lol nope its the same guy!! You look diferent shaved love your videos man!!
okey i have seen the newer vids but this one is brilliant.. xD phone call happens, Steve awnsers, then just lobs the phone away like "and gone it is!" xD
great video Steve. Thank you. I have been researching different stoves for months now and I like this one because it is so cheap. I found it on sale for $140 and its almost impossible to beat that price. You've owned yours now for 1 year, do you still like it? Thank you...Sean
Any wood burner will last longer if you oil it(vegetable oil works fine). We oil ours once every year. Same with our stove pipe, which is older than the stove we heat our house. Had to buy a new one, as the old one from the 70's finally cracked in the back.
I think Mav and a few friends are comming to help you Steve. I don't actually know you so I'll just keep watching old footage and 🙏 for you to have peace 🕊
What are your thoughts on this stove after a 2 years of use? Mine arrives next week. The spark arrest doesnt look to well thought out. A lot of people recommend putting a gasket on the door.
It is amazing. Heavy, but amazing. The spark arrestor is just a mesh bag thing, but it hasn’t fallen apart yet. The stove has got LOTS of use, and I mean on the order of hundreds of fires.... still holding up perfectly. I had bought some gasket to put around the door, but it closes too tightly for the gasket to fit (with the gasket rope I bought) it would probably work well with a thin gasket. All in all... best purchase ive made in a while
I've got the "military" stove. Pain in the ass with the 2.5" stack. I'm too cheap to buy a new one though, Very tempted to just cut a bigger hold and jam a 5" stove pipe in it from lowes.
How do you know like it ? Pros ? Cons ? What type of application are you using it for ? Did you use engine epoxy to glue on a fiberglass gasket ? Thinking of picking one up for a "just in case" window install. I appreciate your time spent in responding.
Given the high likelihood of this being on uneven ground I would think they would go with three legs. Maybe they decided to go with four for extra safety.
I have this stove but I can’t get the stove pipe to stand up by itself, the very top pipe won’t go on (too big) and I can’t get the spark arrester to go on the very top pipe - I had to put the arrester on the 2nd to last pipe.
