Don`t listen to the `e- begging` comments that the loser trolls leave in your comments. Your loyal followers would love to help you on Patreon!
The way your doing your propane is still a crazy idea. .but with that said..not using the stove with direct pressure Will make it a bit safer as when it's cold enough to need the heater the propane pressure inside the tank won't be close to summertime pressure. So you might not die in a flash explosion, or from. A gas hose rupturing with 200 psi like it van get on summer Sun,.I just don't trust the Chinese made junk with my life. Its strange you would have a concern with one missing lug nut.. On 8 lug yet do this. .you are just not aware that that propane set up is 1000 Times more likely to kill you then a missing lug nut..but at least your learning. .
I used my coleman camp stove for over a year without a regulator. If your hose is leaking a the fitting change it. Those hoses do go bad and you can get new ones from Walmart or a rv store..CHEAP !
I sit here at the end of my work day here in Cambridge, England and raise a glass to you. As the British say, keep that chin up! Would be good to hear from you.
Hey like watching your videos does not matter what others say and try to get you to be discouraged and be critical to you. The fact remains you are making this work for you. There are way more of us that wish we could do the same and make something work like you do. The few that are negative do not matter to me and I will keep watching.
and another thing about your propane, if u turn it on to fast it can air lock and u will have to turn it off and do it a gain, I worked at an RV place for 4 years and I was tough some stuff, grate video bud.
Eric,it looks like you still have space on the roof of your van for another solar panel.Could you not ad another panel, and get away from the two propane tanks on the back, and purchase an induction stove top for your van,and possibly ad another battery to support your use on the road?? :)
Doug Rennick He's already generating enough to run an induction stove top. I use one all the time and at the high end it uses 900 watts or so peak. I will need to plug my kill a watt meter into it again to get more precise with that. But I'm sure it's less than his toaster oven used.
You absolutely DO NOT have to freeze or warm anything to refill the 2lb tanks. I have been doing it for years without doing any of those things. The only thing that happens is the small tanks don't get filled all the way. It takes me all of 30 seconds to refill a small tank so it never bothered me.
Wait...if the hose was leaking at the joint (on the hose) how does a regulator that comes AFTER the hose solve the problem? Wouldn't there still be the same pressure within that hose?
Nomadic Fanatic you need a regulator that hooks to the tank like the ones that you use on grills. like I said at walmart. the hose should not have to try to hold the pressure of the tank. Tanks are high pressure not low pressure. screw the regulator to the tank and then screw the hose to the regulator that's all you have to do
Nomadic Fanatic another reason you should have the regulator outside is regulators fail. .and can spray out a mist of propane at over a hundred psi. .and you and jax will be dead. .if that happens. You are looking like a complete fool..buy not spending 100.00 on the correct low pressure buddy heater that uses a tank regulator and less than 1 pound psi..and spending. Hundreds on satellite tv...your not just risking your life. .your risking jax's life also..just get the right heater ..and outside regulator. .and no harm done. .If you fail to correct this you are a complete fool.
Hank Hill people also burn gasoline in paint cans for heat. .that doesn't make it s good idea..and the small green bottle can't fill your entire van like a 20 lb tank..and the temperature differences from outside tank to inside rubber line can cause the propane to turn to liquid. And can combust. .but it won't be your cat splattered all over the van. .or your parents attempting to identify a badly burned charred body. .or die fron the gas if the host ruptured. .rv use 1/2 pound of pressure not 200. And And you have to use the filter in his set up because the pressure separates the liner from the fitting. ..cheerleaders will get you killed. .
Since you are displacing the gas that is in the empty cylinder with liquid from the full one you will get quite a bit in there without any pressure differentiation at all.
Nomadic Fanatic I love it, you are living the life that so many are dying to experience and enjoying the heck out of it. Tomorrow, I am going to go look at a 2006 Tioga from Cruise America (sold to the guy I am buying it from) only 60,000 miles. Already has solar, and lithium batteries. They are asking $23K, OBO, anyone know how much I should offer for it??
Jax seems like such a happy cat! I hope my 2 cats adapt and enjoy life in an RV as much as he does. He clearly loves the heck out of you too! BTW and just because, I want you to know I really appreciate your videos. I've been watching for a while and I truly look forward to each new one. I enjoy your genuine, happy, and laid back personality. Don't forget you will always receive more love than hate.
Hey Eric Live, Learn, and move on. Like you said Keep it to yourself. I bet you Planted The Daisies beside you wheel? LOL Keep Up the Great Vids Stay Safe, Tell Jax Hey.
Hey Eric. I'm not a Hater or a Troll, just a subscriber. I enjoy all your videos. Keep up the good work. But...There has to be a way to run your cook stove off the big 20 lp tanks. Why would you still want to mess with hauling and buying those little tanks when you have the 2 big tanks? Even if you had to get a new stove it would be worth not having to buy the expensive little tanks. I'd re-think this one. Just my 2 cents worth.
OMG your stress level is in the stratosphere, mellow out dude ! LOL.... Uh yeah, you got it made ! for me anyway, that is the life style I'm working for. " stress free zone "
Great, you have put commenting back on. watched last time your vids when was the "spider mite bite" insident. About the propane. You can use T- connection. One straight for heater and then with high pressure regulator (gas grill) to stowe. Since last commenting, I have change my rv to trailer and I have been now in Norway since oct. 2014. After winter back to the road
WOW, have you figured out you were just a little "off" about filling those green propane bottles from the 5 pound containers? Turn the 5 pounder upside down. Attach green bottle using the adapter of course. Open the Valve and you will hear propane flow to small bottle. Then take a small Phillips screw driver and depressed the little valve on top of the green bottle... best to wear a glove on the hand with the screw driver. This will allow the green bottle to fill. Beware not to over fill. I personally weigh the bottles each time and release a little propane if need be. Do 5 to 10 small bottles at a time in less than 30 minutes. Much cheaper and no need to freeze anything.
Dude, I want to be driving up to Washington State in about 2 weeks, and hopefully arriving in 3 from now. Would I absolutely need heating by then? I have no experience going up north that far at this time of year. If you can tell me, it'd be great, thanks.
Eric, just a thought. Is there any way to make your drivers seat a swivel seat. I would think there are some type of swivel pedestals available. I believe that would be more comfortable watching TV.
Hello Eric, thank you for the videos on van life. I've learned alot about living on the road. Keep up the good work. I'm not a cat person, but Jax is the best, reminds me of my small dog Roxy and she loves to go camping and traveling.
For what it's worth, I've found the adapter to refill the small 1lb propane tanks very easy to use. Just attach a room or outside temp 1lb tank the the 20lb tank, flip the 20lb tank, open the valve. Come back about 2-3 minutes later, shut the gas off and it's done. It only gets them about 2/3 full but I like this as they don't ice over on me like that. If you want to get them the rest of the way full though, all you have to do is pull the release valve on top of the green tank for a couple of seconds to let air out, then flip the big tank over and finish it. I've never put my tanks in the freezer.
JAX has it better than most people, heehee. Nice little gadget there with the clock, compass & thermometer. Enjoyed your vid as usual, keep up the good work.
Eric why not just regulate propane at tank and run low pressure propane to accessories. www.amazon.com/Camco-59013-Single-Propane-Regulator/dp/B0014E3MSI/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1437650838&sr=8-4&keywords=propane+regulator. It's cheap and safe and you can use exiting lines you've already run.
I lost my Cockapoo dog from my motorhome in Florida a few years ago. Her only fault was not coming to me when I called so I kept her leashed. She ran off at a festival into a neighborhood and after a couple hours I finally spotted her and got her back. It was very emotional and once was enough. Thank heavens you got JAX back.
I have a very pregnant mama cat that looks so much like Jax and she's all lovey like he is. Strange too because she and her mate Papa Thomas are wild cats we got from another farm that I'm taming. We got them to keep the rodent population down. Mama being 6 months old and pregnant was an accident so after she has babies I'm taking her and her daughter's in to get spayed. I love this first experience with a pregnant cat. I'm learning alot. ex they eat as much as a full grown human does for one meal in one day. I prepare homemade food for them because we had a steer butchered and don't like organ meat but Mama and Papa do. it's amazing how loving cats can be. I used to be rather jealous of you and Jax because Minnie my house cat ignores me most of the time. Now I have Mama pestering me all the time for pets and it's fun. She even lets me hold her belly full of kitties. hugs to you and Jax
Maybe you could find another stove that would work with your tank setup? Then both the heater and stove could be hooked up at the same time. I think the setup you have is functional and a big improvement. Not to be annoying, but the coleman camp stoves can be hooked up to those 5 gallon propane tanks with a 10 dollar adapter that goes on at the tank. Of course, the stove would be additional too. You could hook up the other tank to run just off the stove and one off the heater. But, whatever is clever, no right or wrong way, just the way you feel like doing it.
You will get a lot of cooking time from the little green bottles ... so I think your propane solution is very smart ! Now if you are spending the winter in the cold .. you should be gathering and installing your insulation solutions now too . It's an El Nino year so chances of very heavy snow is predicted .. again !
I think if you use a bbq gas frill regulator, 20 bucks or less at home depot, that would solve the pressure problem to the stove. I could be wrong, but I have done it with no problems at all.
It's Nancy family and friends we watching you I love the way you spend time with your cat watching TV inside of the van cozy we don't like too much you coming outside with the cat especially on the highway Lake when you're inside cozy with him and you cooking and you laying down watching TV recording the rain from inside it makes me feel good and we love the way you play with your cat in the way he bites your nose
What is your purpose in life? Is it to to live for self? I guess that is why we see you accumulating so much stuff. And why we see you wanting to get something larger. Is it possible their might be a higher purpose in life?
At least you'll have heat, that probably takes up a good 70% or more of your propane usage. I was thinking of using a buddy heater also. It's good to see that we can use the big tanks on them.
I don't understand your problem Propane should be at low reassure but in stoves in a home there are plates that fit in the lines with little holes going to burners depending on gas (propane or Butane) and pressure these plates can be changed. At any rate it is in your hands and what you have decided to do works.
Where is the pressure regulator that is supposed to be at the tanks? The line that enters the RV is supposed to be attached to the regulator at the tank. You can also get an automatic switch-over so it automatically changes tanks when the first tanks runs dry.
quick easy fix. take the regulator from a discarded bar b que and use it on your stove it goes between your stove and the end of your 12 ft buddy hose. lots of free ones on garage pick up days or on crags list
Good luck with that propane system. If you're not completely satisfied with it, and it looks like you're not, you can go to just about any RV dealership or Camping World and have their service dept. set up a system for you that's safe and does what you want it to do. You can probably find a small one or two burner RV stove that will be compatible with the 20 lb propane system. Happy Camping
weird, i use the same hose for my coleman stove, but it is a two burner model. I had one hose leak in the same spot you showed in the video... never thought it was because of too much pressure, just ended up tossing the hose
no more pressure in a big tank than a little tank...the reason you have to heat one tank and cool another to fill the little tanks is to create a pressure difference that's usually not there...
I agree sometimes learning from your own mistakes is the way to do things sometimes, BUT Propane gas is NOT the area you want to learn from a mistake. Rethink your decision. Also I could be wrong but the hose was not hooked up to the heater yet it was hooked up to the tanks. If I am right then any kid or adult walking by at night time while you are in the van or out of the van and just turn on the tank for the hell of it, leaking propane inside.
6:36 cat wants to walk free but is captured by the leash. 6:44 cat looks with wistfullness into the distant. ok the cat cuddles because its convenient but it wants to be free at too. let the cat free and call it by the name you gave to it, if it comes back to you, it is yours, if it doesnt, you have done something that means the world.
You don't *have* to freeze the bottles. Just so long as the little bottles are colder than your big bottle it should work. Your creating a vacuum in the smaller bottles. I think just putting as many bottles as you can fit in your little frig would cool them down enough to where it would work well enough. It doesn't take but a minute per bottle to fill it. Not much time at all. Also, wonder if a regular, 2 burner camp stove would work like your heater. They also will work with a hose from a large tank. That's how I use mine.
Just love Jax, the music, image quality - waiting for more. Did this in England for a year or two before my era of cats, and after an era of canal life on a steel narrowboat. Do you have these things?
