Wireless Vive isn't actually new, TP Cast has been out for a while know. The Vive wireless adapter is new though. But with one of those the Vive is double the cost of Rift.. I'll keep the cable and my Rift at that cost. Still, if I had money to waste, a wireless Vive sounds preeeetty good
Anyone watching this video in 2020, this advice also applies to the Rift S, and a supersampling value of about 1.2 will significantly increase the clarity and remove the patented Rift S blurriness in most games. Although you'll probably want a 1080 or better to avoid being stuck in ASW.
Easy fix for if the tool thingy doesn't come off inside of the oculus. Under visible HUD enter None. Switch back to performance when you do want to see it in screen
+Allen Kemmett Oh shit that's a wicked idea, didn't even think of that! I'd be REALLY keen to hear who gets what results. Pinned this comment so others can see :)
F4CEpa1m x_0 My oculus is working with a Asus Strix 1080 and the AMD FX 8350, should I change to an i7 processor to get better graphics and a more real experience? Thank you!!
After adjusting pixel override to 1.5 is a massive visible improvement on display clarity, sure the photon latency had doubled to 25ms. This all adds up to better vr experience. my rig is a 8yr old dell cad station with a 2009 Lynnfield i7 microprocessor, uses only USB2.0 ports & Msi Gtx980Ti 6G. *only thing i had too change in my system was the psu.
I managed to push mine to 2.1 pixel override with a stable 90fps. Anything above that would drop fps to 45. *GPU:* Asus Strix OC 1080ti *CPU:* i7 5960x *RAM:* 16gb
Steve Nugent get it bro. you can always bring it back to where you bought it if you're not sold to the idea. i got mine 3 days ago and im enjoying the games and the community.
As long as your PC is good enough, then yeah, it's definitely worth it. There is a ton of free content that came with my bundle and there is a lot of free stuff on the Oculus store and on Steam VR. Expect to spend around 100 dollars on other stuff though, like a new cpu cooler, a usb 3.0 card, usb extension cables, an additional sensor. Note, you may not need any of these things, it's just that you may find yourself wanting to improve your setup to get the optimal experience.
I made my order the other time dont miss th opportunity of a lifetime trust me you wont regret it my uncle had the DK2 for oculus and it was amazing cant imagine how much Ill love the new one with the touch conrollers when it gets here. what everyone says about not fully understanding how awesome vr is until you do it is absolutely true
If you are already at 1.5 Supersampling using the OculusTrayTool should you still do it here? In fact several of these things are already in the TrayTool So which is best to use this or the TrayTool or it is ok to have settings in both?
Only use one or the other. The Oculus Tray tool basically changes the setting in this app. So if you have 1.5 in both, you're doubling up which isn't good
Hi. New Rift owner here. Great video. Well explained, didn't know any of this so thank you. I notice some games have Pixel Density settings in-game (e.g. Robo Recall). Is it recommended to leave all the in-game settings at default, and use an external tool like this to tweak instead? Are the in-game settings likely to try and limit the max you can push it to? Robo Recall has an AA setting in-game as well as Pixel Density. If you use one of the external tools, do you need to touch any of the other settings in game like AA and the like? Or are the external tools a generic one stop shop to control all the graphics settings a game is likely to have? Just looking to get the best visual and immersion experience possible, but no idea about VR yet. I have an MSI 1080 Gaming X Plus so I assume that should help a lot. Thanks mate. Great work. Keep it up.
+Joe Clifford It's essentially the same thing. I use the Oculus Tray Tool to save settings for all my games on a game by game basis. But if just using the Debug Tool, I'll use the SS settings in game first, gauge the performance in the Debug tools visible HUD, and if I'm happy just use those in game SS and pixel density settings. But yeah, if using both, the results are multiplicative, not additive. So setting 1.5 in game and in debug tool is waaay too high. Just use one or the other
Thanks mate. I noticed when I turned on the performance graph, on the lowest Super Sampling improvement (1.1), my right side graph was fluxing around the into the red minus figures and a max of 10% headroom and the application drops were really high both in game and in the "lobby" areas. :O I have an i5 with 8Gb RAM with a GTX1080. What would be recommended to give myself plenty of headroom and to prevent these application drops? As simple as just upgrading to an i7?
Thanks for the Information. Just ordered my Oculus today and a new Graphicscard (GTX 1060 6G OC) so i'm completly new to this. This card should be enough to play everything but is it still good enough for atleast a bit of supersampling? Too short on money to pay extra 200 bucks for a 1070. Planing to play Witcher 3 and stuff with Vorpx and ofc everything else which is the "must have" on the store right now. P.S.: Do i have to do this everytime before i start the Store or anything else VR related? Or is it activated as long as i change something? Sorry if i missed that information if mentioned. PPS: Just saw the video of the Tray Tool App. So its basically the same just with more options and profiles i can add? In this case the Tray Tool is the better guess?
+Drenalim Hi mate, yeah if you want the extra features go the Tray Tool. You may struggle to get some effective SS happening with a 1060 but just give it a go and keep an eye on the performance meter. You have to keep the debug tool open, but you can change settings while it's open
F4CEpa1m x_0 thanks for the answer. I'll give it a try. Can't wait to get a crisp 4K resolution with affordable graphic cards in a few years. So this stuff will be obsolet. Have a good night.
Great tutorial, quick question , do you disable super sampling in steam when running games & just use this method of super sampling? Thanks in advance :)
Thanks for creating this vid! Liked and subscribed! I'm gonna start using the debug tool more now :) usually i overwrite the pixel per pixel display in the game setting (assetto corsa that is for me) it self but i guess that this way is more convenient.
+SimRacingGirl Thanks for stopping by and subbing :) Either way will get the same results in Assetto, just depends which one you prefer. I use the Oculus Tray Tool and set profiles on a per game basis to auto load, like a set and forget. Again, personal preference
2023 and I still prefer my rift s over my g2 and q2. Comfort is top notch and its the easist to setup. Just stick it on my head and im gaming. Visually while in game all these headsets look about the same.
wich metod is better? this or oculus tray tool? i have a msi 1080 gaming x do you reccomend to use your settings or modify something? thansk for video and support
+Fabio Principessa Hi, if you don't need voice commands, have the Inantek USB 3.0 card, don't want to use hotkeys, or don't want to Super Sample on a per games basis, then use this. If you want all those extra features, then use the Tray Tool. Watch both videos from start to finish. It will answer all your questions
Quick question, what do you suggest... to use this tool,(in the video) to use the oculus tray tool, or to use the game renderer DX11 note pad ini file. or all of them; or would any one of them cancel out the use of the other.? I basically want to use it for iRacing ????
+SkyyJuice Hi mate, I'd probably stick with the iRacing ini file tweaks as that game is a bit particular. Once you have it running in VR you could use the debug tool to improve graphics, but as I understand it that game is quite punishing in VR so you'd struggle to push it any harder than what you could do through the ini file
I have a question. Ive had my rift for about a whole week now and everything seems to be blurry and i find myself CONSTANTLY readjusting my headset to read text inside of games like Pavlov VR and its always so blurry and it hurts my eyes and gives me a super huge headache that lasts for at most 10 minutes. Super uncomfortable. I followed this vid and it still does it. I have re adjusted and tilted my headset up and down and each position is all the same. Super annoyed. How in any way could this be fixed?
@@F4CEpa1m What exactly is that? i usually spread the lenses as far as possible like ive done with even my mobile phone vr headsets.. Im sure i ran through all of the setups where it told me to adjust until i could see a certain image clearly.. but it is still always blurry in game..
Yeah that's what it is. I wouldn't just set it as wide as possible because that's what you do traditionally. Make sure to follow that setup correctly. I also recommend finding out your ipd from an optomestrist (is usually free), or measuring it yourself which is really easy with a ruler: doc-ok.org/?p=898 If you have done that correctly, and are certain you have the headset fitted correctly, I would advise contacting Oculus support
Ty for this video. My question isn't really related to it but maybe you have an answer: Does SLI work with VR games? Are only a few compatible?None? Ty for your help.
You don't have to start the debug tool first. It works just fine if you start it before or after Oculus home boots. It's quite possible that that was one time the case, but no longer applies anymore (I got my Rift in October and it has always worked regardless on when it was started).
This video covers 'how' to supersample. For a more detailed breakdown on 'what' effect supersampling has, see here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7eFFzBzKE40.html Thanks to +BobaRhett13 (don't forget to like, comment and subscribe if it helps you out :) x_0
I got 980. Always use SS. Beter lower graphics with ss than ultra setings with standard SS 1.0. .. the fps depend on the game. But like in Elite Dangerous i use high settings with ss set to 0.85 and hdm scaling to 2.0. This is the sweet spot for my gpu. Non stop 45 fps locked.
When you use the Oculus Debug tool or tray tool, do you still need to run Oculus before going into a VR game? I am assuming you do.....thank you for providing this cool info!!!
@@F4CEpa1m Thank you very mych for your reply!!! I ran that fps counter in the debig tool the 1st time i tried x plane 11 since running the tool, my fps were 20 but man i had terrible frame drops and then my cpu overhead ended up at a minus 132 or some horrible number. I have an i7 6700 (non k) cpu, grx 1660 Ti and 16 gb memory. I do not have q static or ssd HD just a mechanical 7200 rpm, the game takes ages to load. Im not sure if upgrading to am ssd will make a difference in fps during game play but certainly will improve load times. I did watch a video where someone said the ssd improved their game play, either way thats my next purchase is an SSD Drive. Thanks again.
Well Im running an RTX 2080TI GPU and a I7 6800k CPU but as soon I override even 1.10, my pc cant handle it, whys that? I mean its pretty good specs right?
Well presented, informative video. I'm eagerly awaiting my rift to arrive after purchasing it for 399USD, included touch controllers edition from Amazon. What's your thoughts on vorpX for games like BF1?
Ive already begun downloading a few VR games and got doom 3 setup thanks to your tutorials, so Def will be into the made for VR stuff. I just hoped vorpx would allow BF1 head look, and good immersion. I'll still be KB and mousing it.. just hoped it might save me from getting a 21:9 monitor.
+fixxer37 ah sweet. Yeah the difference between something like Doom where the modders have access to the source code, and something like Vorpx where it essentially forces you in to VR, is that in those fps games, what you're used to seeing on a normal screen is actually way out of proportion. The first thing you'll notice in a first person shooter game in Vorpx is that the gun barrel is at your nose, not where you expect to see it. And whole this looks normal on a flat monitor, in VR it's wack. And that's the main limitation with Vorpx. Where as something like Doom, it's been modded to VR, not forced. And so the head movement can be detached from the weapon (so not gun face)
PSA for anyone! Install msi afterburner and USE AUTO FAN CONTROL WITH AN AGGRESSIVE FAN CURVE!.you are thermal throttling causing poor performance. Specially with nvidia cards 9 series and newer factory/defualt fan settings dont even kick on the fans till a much higher temp is reached...this should be done even if you aren't running vr.. Heat kills electronics! Keep the gpu cool and you can push it to its actual limits amd not the thermal throttling limits....
Good stuff. I just got my oculus and I'm trying to find a good balance of setting for use with apps such as dcs. This debug tool helps me see how my pc is performing w/ VR. Thanks!!!
My Performance Head Room is at 0 in Games. I have a GTX 1060 with 16GB Ram and a really good Prozessor... So what is the problem? Its even 0 when the Pixel Override is at 0... but the games are fluent.
what exactly did you do, you keep in the in game graphics at defualt and ss to 1.4 only? I have a gtx 1080sc but arizona sunshine is unplayable , zombies jump and stutter terribly
I have GTX 1070 on an alienware 17 laptop. I'm new to gaming rigs. I did change to 1.5, but the F(frame drop) almost stayed on screen. Based on what you mentioned in video, will need to drop it yeah? Would 1.3 even make a difference?
Hey there, I have a question. Is this better than the Oculus Tray Tool? It looks like it's doing the same thing and OTT seems to have more stuff, so not sure which one to use. Also, I have a GTX 1080 slightly OC in MSI Afterburner, any recommended settings you guys want to share? I play games like Echo Arena, Robo Recall, Elite Dangerous. Thanks
Hi Vic, all of that is explained in this video. The OTT is personal preference depending on what you want to do. For a GTX1080 I would expect you could run 1.5 on most titles but you will need to check the performance meter as shown in the vid as this will tell you how your specific PC is doing under load.
Hi ! Thanks for you help, but i've noticed that there is a bunch of new option in the OculusDebugTool. So my question is simple, are you gonna do a new video for all the new option ?? (definitely 400% perfomances..)
F4CEpa1m, i have some problem with this as the headroom gets rly low wheres i think it shouldn`t. Only set the pixels to 1.2. I did not see any stuttering or frame drops but it just annoys me. My rig is i5 6400 (maybe this is a problem, not sure) with 8gb ram and gtx 1060 6gb. Do you think this is not enough, if so should i buy lets say an i7 6700? would that make any difference? Thanks for your reply in advance.
Pure Gaming I’d definitely upgrade your Ram to at least 16GB and your graphics card as well. Your CPU should be fine but it wouldn’t hurt to upgrade it as well. You have a great set up to run the stock Rift settings but if you want to max out your game settings and take advantage of this super sampling tool I’d definitely upgrade your rig. Here’s what I’d suggest running below without breaking the bank too hard. - RTX 2070 (equivalent to a GTX 1080) - intel i7 8700 - Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2x8) This is about $1000 in upgrades if you buy it all new but it will significantly improve your PC’s performance and slay VR. Hope it helps.
Hey! Thanks for the video! Quick Question. I have an Alienware i7, 16gb Ram, using Graphics Amplifier with Nvidia GTX 1060 Gaming X 6GB, i have tried using this, and i can get only into 1.1 with 90 HZ and performance around 30-50. If i use higher amount it drops to 45hz and around 15 performance. I thought i had a great a combo, am i doing something wrong? Should i not use the SS at all? Thanks!
30-50 performance headroom is fine. It depends on the game. 1.1 on dead and buried may be fine, but 1.1 on Elite Dangerous it may not be. Check your performance meter on each game and it will tell you where you're at :)
i met an oculus Dev today and he told me since the beginging they have been having 4k and 8k screens from the jump but they where heavy and ran hot making your head sweat so they cut it down severley then later on quest 2 even more so he said rift s is and will forever be the best of the lineup regardless of lens and fov , and he added now its gone to meta facebook kiss goodbye to any type of proper pc powered vr headset. he also gave me his devkit Lol happy days
Do not do this mod if you have supersampling turned on in the graphics card settings. I currently run a GTX 1080 with a Ryzen 7 2700 and I notice when I perform this settings adjustment that I have less than 10% headroom. After a little digging around I realized that I already had DSR - factors (NVIDIA's name for supersampling) turned on to 4.00x I find that not only does this setting help the Oculus rift but also with any other displays attached. This is a more set it and forget it option compared to the oculus debugging menu which you have to open every time.
Yep, the effects are multiplicative. Nvidia settings x Oculus Debug settings = end result. 10% headroom is not a bad number btw, but that number won't be taking in to account your Nvidia settings and so your performance results will be incorrect. I would recommend supersampling from here as shown in the video instead of using Nvidia control panel though so you can monitor your performance settings correctly.
@@F4CEpa1m Yeah. I was just looking at the graphs and noticing alot of frame drops just right in the home environment. just wanted to make others aware and I was mostly going by how many times the image froze on me as well. I know I can tweak my settings but even with supersampling my glasses only allow so much compensation so stuff still looks blurry to me.
Would a GTX 1650 be able to run vr? Im extremely new to vr, and ive been tryin to look for a vr headset to get, but i dont know which one i should honestly get.
+SimRacingAddict your frame rate will be dropping to 45fps for the following reasons: Either your PC isn't powerful enough to maintain 90fps, or you have Supersampling, or your in game graphics settings set too high. Your PC drops to 45fps because of ASW, which it's supposed to do. Ease off on your setting and use the visible HUD to keep an eye on things
Hey man, if you see this could you let me know what I can run regularly? Because I feel like every game just looks so blurry and I can’t see far distances clearly at all. I don’t wear glasses and IPD is 63 and my cpu is a beast so idk how. I9 9900k rtx 2070 super
Your setup should be fine to run almost everything at 1.5. Did you manually measure your ipd? Or just go with the recommended setup ipd? Also which headset you using?
+TheMrBlind Do you have the supersampling options in the Robo Recall game settings cranked up too? This will multiply the effect amd tax your GPU a lot harder. Don't worry about GPU temps unless you are over clocking your card. It won't literally cook it
I ordered the oculus and should have it in about a week. Does these settings really change the image quality? Im primarily going to use it for flight simulator where it will be useful to read small print in the cockpit.
First off, welcome to the Grid, program :) And yeah, these settings are particularly helpful for making text clearer. What graphics card and CPU do you have?
I don't think I'd recommend super sampling with an Rx 470. It doesn't have the horse power to do it and flight sims are generally pretty taxing as it is. You'd need to look at a GTX 1070 equivalent or higher. In saying that you can try it and monitor the performance as shown in the vid, it won't hurt at all and you never know :)
+Blue Water I'd say you could give it a little push on some titles, yeah. But generally with that card the in game graphics settings will push it to max on the more demanding games
It varies depending on the game or app you are using. Use the performance meter as shown in the vid and that'll tell you for your specific setup. As a general guide I'd say 1.5 on almost everything though
Do you Think antialiasing make smooth And less heavy on GPU? Because i did settuped antialiasing on ff15 And It got smooth on hair, but Also increased the fps
Yeah mate. When running the Rift through SteamVR, the Oculus runtime is still responsible for presenting images to the device's screen. Just be careful though, if SteamVR's built in Super Sampling slider is cranked up, this will multiply the effect!! Unlikely to cook your GPU or anything but the lag will be real
Sorry this is a couple months late, but thank you for the reply! Haven't tried this yet but am going to tonight. I'll be sure to look out for that SteamVR SS slider!
I have a Titan X GPU, 32 GB Ram, and a Intel i7 6700 4 GHz CPU, but when I put my supersampling on anything above 1 my headroom % goes into the negatives and my GPU temp skyrockets. Does anyone know why this could be happening?
I have i7 7700k and gtx 1080 8gb, can it handle pixel super sampling at 2? Or should I keep it 1.5. Also the how to do increase the color in VR, because in my view the color when im in vr it looks like it’s faded a little bit how do I sharpen the color
+SunsetRider oh mate it's not anywhere near 4k yet (as you found out). This will help but still won't hit 4k. VR is so in its infancy think of it like when TV's first came out how they would have looked, that was the DK1 days (about 5 years ago), now we're at the DVD days maybe.. 4k VR is a few years off but still a load of fun, just expect a boost but not 4k from this app and you'll be fine :)
I need some advice. I have a gtx 1080 ftw2 and followed these steps. I set SS to 1.5 and I have head room as low as negative 30 with a max of 15%. Without SS I'm at 20%. Does anyone have any idea why this may be?
What for numberswould you recommend for a gtx 1060 6gb. Intel I7 8700 8th gen 6 cores 2.2ghz OC 4.1ghz 2x 8 GB ddr4 RAM 2400mhz?? For the supersampling and other settings?
I wouldn't really recommend supersampling with a 1060. The card is minimum spec and while it'll run most VR titles absolutely fine, it's not powerful enough to push harder than the default settings really
Yes it does. This will affect everything running through a Rift. Don't supersample in SteamVR at the same time as the results are multiplicative and will eat your processing headroom for lunch
what could be the be setting i could use to optimize my oculus experience. I have a laptop Msi gp62mvr 6rf leopard pro with nvidia 1060 3g, 16 gig ddr4, intel i7-6700 2.6ghz. ssd samsung 250 pci-e ! i woul love to know how i should set my nvidia pannel right and my debug setting in oculus all is up to date ! my only issue is i got a F when i look for frame drop ... i would love some help if you can
+michael madison Hi mate, with a 1060 in a laptop I probably wouldn't be pushing the supersampling at all, it just doesn't have the power behind it. I leave Nvidia settings to default and all works well. I wouldn't worry about the occasional frame drop, the issue is when it's consistent and you notice a visual drop in performance
I also have a GTX1070 but my computers display always turns off when playing VR after 10 min or less, any idea why this happens? I have an OMEN 17 inch 2018
@@F4CEpa1m No, I did not over clock my CPU nor GPU, it just started happening out of nowhere, the first week I got my oculus everything worked ok, after that week, It is impossible to play VR games.
Do you have HDMI extension cables? Could cause an issue. If not, follow this vid to download the Oculus Tray Tool and disable the power management settings: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hLqK-Q2YdI0.html
Great video. I do have question regarding turning off and on the rift. I’ve been leaving the HDMI and USB cables connected to my pc and I often have to unplug my HDMI and plug back in to get a picture as I still have audio. Is there a way to stop doing this? Thx
+starkalarm yeah that's from the sensor just inside the headset (about where the centre of your forehead is) being triggered. If you have nothing obstructing that sensor the Rift will hibernate when you not using it. It's designed to be left plugged in and that's what I do too :)
F4CEpa1m x_0 I get a black screen most of the time, that’s why I unplugged the HDMI cable and plugged it back in and away it goes. I just don’t want to keep doing that every time I want to use it. Thought maybe I was doing something wrong. It says it is connected on the oculus screen. In the headset it is a orange light for stand by but I can hear the audio playing. O well I’ll figure it out. Love the headset though. New owner of about 3 days
Sorry mate but I wouldn't supersample with that card :/ You'd need a 1070 or better imo. In saying that, on lighter games you should be fine. Use the performance meter as described in the video to find out what your system can/can't handle
i turn up PPD to 1.5 , running EVGA GTX1070 SC2 stock. i am getting about 30% headroom. cpu is 4790k at 4.8 watercooled, 16 gig ram 2400. i play driving sims like Iracing, Asseto corsa, so I do not see any changes in graphics. also is this tool same as the Oculus Tray?
+Atanas Dimitrov T he Tray Tool has all the major settings here and more yeah. 30% headroom is still good. At 1.5 you should notice clearer text and sharper edges. Assetto Corsa also has built in Ge settings that supersample so you can just do it from in game if you like
Do not set supersampling to 2, especially with a 1070. There is almost zero perceivable benefit from around 1.6 to 2.0 but it will impact performance heavily and you will not get 90fps in almost any game
