Watch The video carefully it has solutions to a couple of minor complications for example the mini blade will plug into the micro blade slot it will sit higher making it easier to remove and easy for you to remember which one you changed you can keep the old one nearby for a spare I put mine next to it you can buy the micro version but the mini blade is cheaper can’t go wrong for 50 bucks got a love it

A good ol' trick. The way it works, is that the 'Sense' wire measures the live voltage in the vehicle wiring loom , and the regulator (in the alternator) uses this to adjust its voltage . So if we fool the "s" wire by using a diode in series , it reduces the through-voltage by perhaps .7 volts . This fools the Regulator to set the voltage .7Volts higher. It is just a diode, BUT, is better if you use 2 diodes in paralell ! one going each direction, as the reverse-direction may be needed just-in-case, as some regulators can be damaged using just 1-way. So .. for the DIY guy, it is just a standard 15cent diode from Jaycar, so spend 30cents and a bit of fuse wire between, and its done easy as. If you want to adjust it a bit more accurately, you can also get a diode called a shockley, which has a slight different voltage-drop difference , so you can mix-n-match to get your target voltage.

I have an 09 Model SR5 and have not done this modification. I regularly see 14v 14.1v from the alternator in its standard form without this fuse/diode. I have confirmed this voltage with multiple voltage gauges

I have the same SR5. Mine used to run at 14.1-14.2, but now it’s 13.3-13.5. I haven’t changed anything, I can only assume the alternator is just getting old/tired

Only goes up to the 1KD judging by the website, mustn't work with smart alternators I'm guessing on the 1GD

Rather use a DC to DC charger, it will charge an auxiliary battery correctly and not overcharge the start battery like the diode method.

It’s not overcharging any batteries it’s actually really good most batteries require especially in a four-wheel-drive

Only thing I'd say is I've seen some aftermarket accessories that don't like voltage going higher. I've blown 4 RF modules in two GME UHF CBs. Looks like their radios are not quite as hardened as they claim. Original ECUs etc should be fine as those guys test their gear fully for higher voltages.

If something can’t handle 14.3 V it’s rubbish
@TonyTony-rd4rj
@TonyTony-rd4rj Год назад
Rf module blow up in gme radios even at 13.8 volts so makes no difference. Gme radii not as goid as they say. I have heaps here that have been replaced wuth Uniden radios.
@TonyTony-rd4rj
@TonyTony-rd4rj Год назад
At the higher voltage the Rf module will pass more current throught it which will run hotter and on hot days will shorten the rf module life span. It will go into thermal runaway. The only way around this is to fit a bigger head sink to the radio or fan.

Pirana's one is bi direction diode so it does not matter which way you put it in.

From my memory all diodes are directional , diode purpose is to only allow current to flow in one direction. otherwise its not a diode, maybe they got resistor there instead?

Is there an option for the 2.8ltr Prado?
@errolpleash7313
@errolpleash7313 Год назад
Hey Anthony, does this work on the early 2016 Prado. I see 13.8V into the starter battery & the Redarc then converts that to 14.8 to my auxiliary battery. So, starter battery has always been suffering low input voltage imo.

You don’t need voltages you need amps. Most phones for example uses 1.66amps to charge at 12volts. Which is a 20w charger, this will charge your phone in roughly an hour. Sure you can charge batteries faster but just have to be careful because a slower charge to a lithium ion battery is better than a faster for long term performance of your battery. Hence why phone manufacturers now have automatic slower charge settings for when your phone’s plugged in overnight called optimized charging. Helps keep your battery in good condition.

Voltage is required when attempting to charge a deep cycle battery. My Prado would not charge the battery but fitted this and it made a massive difference
@leighwagstaff9768
@leighwagstaff9768 Год назад
You can't get amps without voltage, ie a 300A alternator running at 12V will not charge a 12V lead acid battery, you need to raise the voltage to force amps into the battery. Slower charge to a lithium is not necessarily better, it depends on what the specific battery is capable of. My DCS extreme Lithium can be charged at 180A for example without any issues and is charged directly off the alternator. The DCS extreme also requires 14V -14.6V for the cell balancers to do their job. Phone batteries are not the same as Lithium batteries designed for use in RV's.
