In this video I remove the engine in my 1990 Nissan 300ZX. Its the first time the engine has ever been pulled from this car, its completely stock and it's also the first engine I've ever removed myself! Pulling the engine allows me to fix the issues I have with it but more important, add boost! This engine will go back in with twin turbos and a BUNCH of other upgrades! Thanks for watching

What’s up guys! 1 small thing I wanted to clear up. In the video I first said I spent hours trying to get the top 2 transmission bolts, and then later I said I had them out in 30 min. What I meant was I spent hours trying to get at them trying different techniques. It took me 30 min once I had that long extension set up figured out 😅 Thanks for watching!

drop the rear mount of the transmission and you can access the bolts with a long extension

Great video! No need to apologize for the pace of your videos. There are already too many channels that build cars in 30 minutes.

The clutch on my 94' na lasted until 96K with very normal use. Good to see new vid and big progress, huge milestone to cross. I did clutches, twice, and didn't use as long of extensions for top bolts although my car was on highest jack settings and I had big room to work underneath. Inspect cooling fan at hub.Mine was cracked n needed replacement at 90K. When replacing cam, rear main seals, etc, they are pressed in dry. Do not lube outer perimeter,it is a dry fit. Lube only the seals inner hole.

My 120k timing belt service was done about a year and a half ago, my fan was cracked so I replaced it at that time as well 👌

First off, props for being hands on and doing all this yourself. #NoobGang It would have been extremely beneficial for you to have pulled the plenum and done all the (preventative) maintenance, deletes and other small modifications while you were NA in the sense that it would have built your experience, confidence and understanding prior to pulling the engine and going turbo and doing all of the aforementioned in one go, BUT no point in looking back now, you’re already well on your way 😎 One thing the Z has taught me is my mental health is very important to me. I now do whatever I need to do in preparation for whatever job I will be doing and to remove myself from the project and rest when I’m tired. You will definitely be upgrading everything you left in place after going turbo (exhaust, clutch, driveshaft) so in retrospect, you made your job so much more difficult than it needed to be by leaving everything else in place while removing the engine, BUT that’s part of learning lol which is exactly what you’re doing 😏 Caked oil is likely due to valve cover gaskets and half moons. Which, given your extensive research you’ve been doing, will be addressed and upgraded, respectively. It’s totally apparent that you frequently reflect on your thought process, so please don’t take my comment as condescending or belittling. Honestly I love your approach to your RU-vid channel with the Z32 content. You’re authenticity and transparency will be key to your success with the channel imo as you’ll have a lot of viewers not only learning from you and your mistakes, but learning with you as well, which honestly is something our niche community really needs with older guys phasing out and younger dudes phasing in.

Thank you! You’re right that definitely would have enhanced my skills beforehand. Honestly I just wanted to take a few months during the winter and just do my best and try to tackle it all in one go, let’s how it turns out for me 😅 I don’t take your comment as belittling at all. I respect all criticism and advice and I really do take advice and feedback I’m given seriously, and give it thought, if I know it’s coming from a good place. Which I’m certain yours is coming from a good place. Thats all I’m trying to do, document everything I do for others but also for myself so I can look back on all this. I don’t hide my mistakes or failures just to make for good content because me making a mistake prevents others from doing so. It’s also really bringing me out of my comfort zone and not being camera shy. This project is WELL above my skills and I knew that getting into it, but I really wanted to learn to work on my own car and not just pay someone to do it. If that results in mistakes being made and some things broken in the process, I’m more than at peace with that. Thanks for the love! ❤️ 🙏🏾

@@FarazXAhmed for me, that’s a huge part of you and your channels charm; for the longest time the Z32 was a project beyond my skill set, but I learned and I boy did I learn the hard way too. Matter of fact I’m still learning so I’m right there with you. Keep it up my man! 👊🏼

For future reference, you can actually lower the engine and transmission by loosening the front subframe bolts.as much as possible. - will give you another 2-3 inches of clearance near the top of the trans tunnel! you can also remove the trans mount and let it sink down slowly with a jack if you need the extra space still!

You are a brave soul! Your first engine pull on one of the worst cars to work on in the world! I salute you. Please cover up your perfect fenders. I cringe when I see you working over them. Things happen. Belt buckle, tools etc. I look forward to your progress. Good luck !

Reminds of my first pull, definitely drop the transmission first and just leave it on a tranny Jack under the car. Also, a RameyZ engine sling makes life a whole lot easier. You’re doing a great job.

LOL, love the vids. You say this is not a "how to video", should be a "How NOT to video". Z32 engine pull is well documented in the web, not sure why you still went the hardest way. (second hardest is pulling the trans with the engine) My very first engine pull was the z32, only took 6 hours cause I followed the how to guides. The top two bolts are very accessible once you remove the trans cross brace to lower the end. You will still need to move the trans anyways, because it will be hell lining up the trans input shaft to the engine pilot hole. Exhaust, drive shaft and trans removal is about a 2 hour job, even for a newb if you follow the guides. The end result is the same, you got it out. But make it less stressful for your self and pull the exhaust, driveshaft and trans before install.

Yeah I just wanted to try it lol! But like I said at the end, I would pull the tranny first the next time 😅 I’m glad I was able to get it all by myself, with no help, and without breaking anything 🤣 I learned a lot!

You're learning as you go! 👍 That would be me, too! I'm just as much a noob mechanic as you are! Probably even more noob than you! 😂

You thought getting those two bolts was hard on a manual lol hope you never have to get them on an auto, way less room. If you would've dropped the transmission cross member and let the tranny sag out gives you a lot more room to work.

Yeah I know, a few people told me that, I wanted to see if I could get with without touching anything first and luckily it still worked 🤣 I would definitely do some things a bit differently next time!
