I’ve been in the navy for now a year and a half went through bootcamp last July. Some advice for ppl going to recruitment centers and now looking up navy bootcamp. It’s hard and requires sacrifice every step of the way, be ready to be out under stress and to perform under pressure. The hardest part of bootcamp is being mentally open to having no limit. Never give yourself a limit, not in bootcamp not in the fleet and even if you fail out don’t give yourself a limit. Always rise to the occasion.

To anyone looking to join or waiting to get shipped off. Boot camp is the easiest part of your navy career, it’s hard as hell for the first couple weeks because it’s a culture shock, you’ll question the decision you’ve made and if you should’ve just stayed back home. But after a couple weeks you get used to it, and get acclimated to the environment it gets a helluva lot easier. My tips to y’all would be 1. Listen to the instruction your RDC’s give you, they tell you everything you need to do for every task you’re given, all you need to do is execute 2. Trick yourself into thinking it’s fun, you’re not going to want to do everything they tell you to, but you just need to stay positive and make yourself enjoy the training 3. Always remember why you’re there and what got you to the point you’ve made it to Just remember there’ll be good days and there’ll be bad days, keep pushing through, never get complacent, just keep learning and growing as an individual. I didn’t study a damn thing before I shipped off, I learned my general orders and chain of command when I got there (study all that good stuff, don’t be like me lmao) but I mentioned that so you know that I went there unprepared mentally and physically and still pushed through, y’all can do it to. Good luck to anyone who’s thinking of joining and anyone who’s soon to be shipped off. HOOYAH NAVY!

Went through in 2012. I'll give some quick advice to the newbies going through shortly. 1. Don't quit. The first week or two suck the most. If you quit, you don't go home immediately. It could be weeks or even months before you are processed out and you will always regret it. It gets easier when you learn to not be in control of you anymore. You are a pawn. You signed up to be a pawn. Be a pawn. Just do whatever you're told. 2. Embrace the suck. Pretend you are in a video game like Halo or something and the sucky parts are just a cutscene before you get to the fun cool stuff. 3. Sleep when you are allowed to sleep. Don't be that recruit giving motivational speeches after lights out. Tell that recruit who is giving motivational speeches after lights out to STFU. 4. Don't volunteer for anything. 5. Blend in. Don't be a stand out. 6. DO NOT EAT MUCH BEFORE THE GAS CHAMBER. Granted, we had it a bit harder. Usually you go in a few rows at a time, then you do your thing in there, then they open a door to the outside and you run out allowing for the chamber to air out some It was raining on gas chamber day for my division so because RTC rules were afraid of rain, the chamber just got saturated. When my time came to go in, the chamber was so damn full of gas, you could feel it immediately even with the mask on. If you've got a full stomach, theres a good chance you will puke. If you puke, you stay in there until you clean it up. Eat less that morning. 7. Do NOT join unless you know how to swim. Too many recruiters will say "You'll learn" or "They'll teach you." No. It is a horrible inconvenience to go through basic swim lessons. I could not believe how many people did not now how to swim before hand. 8. Don't tell bootcamp stories if you make it to the fleet. No one cares and it makes you seem like a boot. 9. (not a tip) Good luck. Don't quit. Lever 2000 sucks. The fleet can be the best and worst party you ever had/job you ever had/friends you ever had/ friends you ever lost/ saddest moments/ proudest moments/ funniest moments/ hardest you ever worked/ easiest job ever/ and best damn character building possible. I loved the shit out of it and while I am so proud of what I have done outside of the Navy and the wife and baby I have now, I still miss it every single day. also dont say "hoo-yah" outside of bootcamp. No ones does that, weirdo.

1977 to 1981. I loved the video, brought back some memories even from my time in, oh so long ago: 1) Home sickness was the biggest enemy for most (me included)... it was the leverage they used everyday.. as you progress further you gain confidence and they begin to lose their leverage. 2) Don't let the Navy get you in shape and by all means, don't let the Navy teach you to swim!!! 3) It will be an experience your friends from high school who didn't serve will miss and you will remember and cherish for the rest of your life. 4) in my 4 short years, I witnessed Boot camp, "A -School", my first ship, a shipyard overhaul, Guantanamo Bay, a Med Cruise, a second ship, hometown recruiting duty, 6 months of Shore Patrol and 18 months on a submarine base Scotland and along the way I visited a dozen different countries. 5) So who comes out better prepared for life? Some kid with with a worthless degree and a massive student loan or a veteran of military service who was a part of something bigger than themselves, trained to adapt, to work as a team and the meaning of respect and honor? 6) I retired as a plant manager, debt free @ 55 ahead of all my friends. For anyone coming to watch this because you're about to go to basic, here's some advice. I attended Navy basic training in 2011 and Army basic training in 2021. No matter your age I'm telling you that you can make it if you believe you can. It gets better after basic. It's just a couple months and YOU can get through it. It's ok to cry, it's ok if you have doubts, but it's not ok to quit. Even if you're the most out of shape, least intelligent, most shy/socially awkward person in your division, you can make it as long as you push yourself. If you feel like your RDC/DS/DI is singling you out, it's because they're trying to prove to you that you can be better than you think you can. They know that you can handle it, and even if they break you, you'll have an opportunity to rebuild yourself better. Don't stress about the little things, do your best at everything you can and keep improving and you'll make it through.

@@ramonvargas6865 @Ramon vargas hell nah lol I actually live only 25 minutes away from the naval base that houses this boot camp. When I go to the mall on fridays, I always see sailors in their uniforms with their families!

Remember, entering Boot, Halloween Day, 1979 Great Lakes. Was 21 among 17 and 18 yr olds. I felt like 90 HATED Drill instructors. Got in trouble, MTU Then they talked to me, I cried, a MAN WAS BORN LOVED THESE GUYS. At the end is a complete transformation from the beginning. God bless you, our young men and women SAILORS ❤️
